Roger, I can’t find the one you’re talking about… But I just walked all the grounds and I have the only first gen here... at least for now. Lotta compliments on the car, too.
-
Guess who has the only first generation Monte Carlo here as of now? I’ll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count 😆

Sorry for the late notice - just got this earlier. Weather looks like it’s supposed to cooperate so I’ll be there with the fam. Will be first time for me so I have no idea what to expect in terms of number of cars, etc I’ll be sure to take lots of pix

April is the Monte’s name, right? Just kidding!! Congrats! Me and the missus will be celebrating our 20 years of marriage in January. I always tell her “if I would’ve killed you when I met you, I would’ve been out of jail by now“. Sweet little nothings like that go along way in a relationship 😂😂😂😂

The first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem. Well done.

Throw all those numbers you’ve located on the board here when you get the time. We’ll help you decipher them: cowl tag, VIN, letters and/or numbers off the block, tranny and rear. Again, refer to the “how to tell if it’s a real SS” link for specific location in which to find all these characters.

PSS - your pictures show two different sets off wheels. What’s the deal there? Did the purchase include two sets?

PS - somebody much wiser than myself one said: “The only stupid question is the one left unasked”.

I concur with the masses... ask away. And Canuck beat me to it...the link to how to tell a real SS is pretty much gospel. I had questions and concerns with the authenticity of mine... these were quickly dispelled by the knowledge on these boards. And nice ride, Nic! I hope she does in fact turn out to be the real deal. But if not, you still got a hell of a car there.

Just got around to looking at this entire thread… Well done Jared! Looks like a blast and I fully intend on joining you all next year.

Coming back to reality sucks, doesn’t it?
-
Couldn’t tell ya. But I’d interpret it as a sign from the Monte Gods You need to start playing these numbers in your local Pick 3 & Pick 4 lottery. $1 straight, $1 box.
-
What would it take for you to put a pooch on the hood of your Monte today, Rob?
-
Man, that blows. Hopefully it cleared up so you guys had at least a partial night to enjoy the cars.
-
Registered for this show today, lady at the village hall said “tons of people have registered”. I got one of the last remaining spots in one of the three (four?) lots registrants will be showing their cars in. Unless things go sideways for any particular reason, my Monte will see her first show as mine.

I must say that I agree...

Well, in the name of automobile preservation and documentation, I believe you know what needs to be done. Grab a ratchet and the socket set and get crackin’!!

For what it’s worth, I love the gold. I actually still have the picture from one of the ads of a 70 SS that I had looked into prior to scoring the one I own. The only reason I didn’t get this one was it was already sold when I called to inquire (everything happens for a reason, they say). There’s a lot to be said regarding originality. But at the end of the day it is your baby, do with it what makes you happy.

A Detailing... A Nice Ride to Dinner... An Exhaust Leak

Let me know what you think. I haven’t had a car with a vinyl top since my ‘81 Granada with the landau top. And it was my daily driver, so I ignored it and never did anything to it other than wash it. This looks good so far, and I’ll reapply as recommended. -

Looks nice… And you are absolutely right… It’s Murphy’s Law. The other side will break as soon as I fix this side. -
Absolutely outstanding work! Well done.

Thanks Dtret. I didn’t have a choice as the car arrived with this exhaust, but I was also leaning toward a traditional hanger as the fix. Don’t get me wrong… I really love the way she sounds, but you’re absolutely correct ... this mounting process obviously leaves the metal compromised. -

Thanks Willie. A coworker recommended this. Directions say to reapply every 3 to 5 weeks. That won’t be an issue because it went on nice and easy. Did one small area at a time and rub/buffed it in with a clean microfiber towel. For the small strip below the back window I just sprayed some directly on the towel instead of spraying it on the vinyl. -

Good heads up, thanks John.
