  1. Here is a Vendors Mustang running a 360-some inch Roush Engine and of course it was made for this. He ran a 28.99. That was some [you said a naughty!] (I mean darn) good driving!
  2. I just got back from Good Guys in KC. Nick (Quarterbooty) ran his car with the new upgrades, at the Autocross event. I rode with him once, it was very cool. The vendor race prepped cars would run this particular course in 28-29 seconds, Stock cars seemed to start around 35 seconds and up, Nick pulled a 32.5 second best after a couple practice rounds. I actually rode with him on the 32.5 second run! I think he could have done even better if he wasn't lugging my butt around too! Just for reference, he has 18's all around, coil over front and rear suspension, Detroit Speed Control arms if I remember right. Motor is a 383, and brakes are ZO6 Vette with Hydroboost. This video was a 33.9 second run. It doesn't look that fast, but you'd be surprised at what it actually felt like. It's kind of like watching a 12 second car at the drag strip. Doesn't look like much but if you're in the car, it is pretty impressive! On his 32.5 second run, the tires were squalking for about 75% of the run Fun stuff
  3. 3" will also increase the noise level, you may want to stick with 2.5 for noise sake. I have 3" Flowmaster 50 series and it is too loud to be comfortable taking it out every day early in the morning. My neighbors would kill me.
  4. I think this is absolutely reasonable. The cam is big, so HP is going to be high, higher than the torque values. My friend made 430hp with a 383, AFR 195 heads, and a 236/242 HYDRAULIC roller cam. David is using a Solid roller even bigger, with 30 more cubic inches and better flowing heads and a SP intake. I think you guys are underestimating this beast. Hopefully I'm not getting David's hopes too high, but I think this will be impressive. Go Dave, Go Dave, Go Dave!!!
  5. Ok, I'll be the crazy guy here. . . I say 600hp, and 550lbft This is going to be a screamer!
  6. I have used them, and currently use the wix version. They do a great job of filtering as long as you don't bend (or twist ) the nipples too far. . . Seriously!
  7. I second that one. It will make a big difference on oil drippage.
  8. With good builders, you get (theoretically) better part checking like checking for bent cranks, cracked cylinder heads, cracked blocks, and then better machining practices as well. I have looked at the ebay companies, and of course they all sound great, but I would hesitate to go with one simply because I don't know anybody who has used them. With companies that are recommended by guys on this forum, or the Chevelle forum, many of the guys have actually had experiences with and used the vendors they are recommending. Just food for thought.
  9. David, that is looking good. I love how nice brand new clean engines look! Can't wait to see some numbers and hear it!
  10. Mike, it sounds like it could be a sticky thermostat, or really slow flow causing it to take a bit for the cooler coolant to get into the engine and cool it down.
  11. Tell us more about the 496, or add a link so we can check it out. That seems very cheap. Is the 496 built already? Is it going to be balanced? What heads? I think you'll enjoy driving a torquey 496 around with 3.31 gears much more than a 210 runnered 383 with a big HR cam and 3.73 gears. Especially if you plan on driving it any distance.
  12. That is right Royce, the coil over springs are it. It sure does clean things up.
  13. It's amazing how far $50 will stretch now-a-days. My heads will cost $50 too. . .
  14. You're so full of it Nick! "It's nothing special" Guys, this thing sadly put my BBC to shame doing roll-ons on the highway. It is a low 12 second car . That's pretty sweet with a completely drivable SBC, especially when you consider now that it has better brakes than 99% of all other cars on the highway, and handles better than most of them as well. All this on a 1972 platform. Very nice work Nick. I love those coil overs as well. You've come a long way from that stock 350 and maaco body work!
  15. Hey Austin, it sounds like you have things figured out. As a piece of advice for when you are talking about the differential with the shop guys, or on the forum for that matter, if there are no clutches or "posi" type of device in your differential, it is called an "open" differential. Posi is GM's term for a limited slip differential, just like Traction Loc is Ford's, and Sure Grip is Mopar's. They're all the same thing basically. All of the manufacturers also have open differentials as their base units which means that nothing tries to get both wheels locked together. Are you staying with the 4.10 gears? Do you do a lot of highway driving? If so, you might get a little higher gear and that could make it much more fun to drive. If you are dragging the car or constantly stoplight to stoplight, you might like the 4.10's better than higher (numerically lower) gears! Give us some updates when you get that posi installed! You'll love it!
  16. 3500 converter, 240/250 @0.050" roller cam, 3.73 gears, and you have a screamer. What kind of heads are they?
  17. I almost gave up, getting tired of watching the Hells Angels, but the demonstration and simplicity of the example were awesome. I'm going to send this to my little bro, great learning tool.
  18. Awesome Mike, and what a lucky shot timing-wise! I hope to be there with you some day. Have you been hanging out with Dave? he may be rubbing off on you!
  19. Dave, that is awesome, and that picture is great and shows just how perfectly you have that suspension set on launch! There may be 1" difference between right and left front tires, that is AWESOME! Congrats!
  20. I had heard it was because GM wanted something more aerodynamic for NASCAR than the chevelles? so they took the chevelle body basically and extended the nose kind of like Ford did with the Talledega etc. Maybe not I guess?
  21. It is pretty close Winston. My Mosers were just a little thicker in the flange I think but I bet it was within an eight of an inch on each side. Plus, the axle got ~1/4" thicker in the stock axle's thinnest spot.
  22. I'd guess the driveshaft caused the tranny case to break, but if you have all solid motor and tranny mounts, that can cause cases to break too if the motor has enough torque. The frame will flex but the engine and tranny can't give because the mounts are solid, so the tranny case at the bell housing is the weak point. Sorry to hear about the break, but the 12.0 is nice!

Whose is the turbo'd SBC? That looks AWESOME!!! Actually they ALL look great, but that one actually gave me a little buzz!
  24. It's hard to believe just how much this car has changed in the past year. Dave started by asking about anti-roll bars, and now is teaching us all how to knock on the 9's door! Awesome work Dave! Also, I LOVE that this is still your stock bottom end GM 502! Change the top end and suspension tweaks and you've turned that thing into an animal!
  25. Edelbrock coincidentally sells a stubby 90 degree fitting that will work under a holley on their SBC intakes. I think you may have to use multiple or a thick carb gasket though. I understand how the timing set works but I would have though that when they were set on the middle setting, it should be neither advanced nor retarded--straight up, but you are saying it is not, and since you degreed your cam, you should be right. That is retarded of the timing set manufacturer though. Glad the miss seems to be solved! I hope the power is up where it should be now!
