  1. The contacts seem to be a bit apart. I will give it a close look tonight. I'll let you know, thanks again
  2. Dennis, I got the clock cleaned up and rewound the spring and the clock works started up again. Very cool. I cleaned the contacts up and the clock would wind every minute and a half or so. I put the clock back together and hooked it to my test battery and it was running like new. I went back to check it 2 hours later and it had stopped. To took it back apart and the works are still working, I noticed the contacts were again kind of blackened. I hooked it back up and the works again began to work as the contacts took a charge and a while later it stopped again. Any Ideas?? Is the coil no good? Did I get oil on the contacts? Is there any way to test the coil? Does anyone have a spare coil? Let me know...thanks
  3. Thanks for getting back to me, the inside of the housing had a coating of black dust or gunk but no arching. I will give it a good cleaning and see what happens. I will keep you posted and thanks again
  4. Dennis, I'm in the middle of rebuilding my original clock. I have referenced your write up on your rebuild but I have a couple questions. Did you use any type of cleaner when you opened up the clock? Mine seems not to have a short but the gear and spring were loose inside and the gears seemed to be frozen or stiff. The second question is what did you use to lube the gears?? Anything else I can look for?? Thanks in advance, Paul
  5. I think that insert might be the same as the insert used for the headlight bezel

Sorry for your loss, RIP ...
  7. Thanks for your service....
  8. Larry, I ended up picking up a set of LED bulbs yesterday. Thanks anyway
  9. Larry, is that including the sockets??
  10. Thanks for the info Dennis, I'm not sure that the sockets need to be replaced but when it's apart I might as well replace them. I will also be referencing your write up...
  11. Dennis, I'm planning on some dash work this winter. Do you have a recommended vendor for the led bulbs and sockets?? And how many are needed.? Thanks in advance, Paul
  12. That is very cool, you guys should post the others to see if you can match them up....
  13. Steve, the part number for 1970 was 390749, the shifter knob for a Chevelle w/out console had the shift pattern on them
  14. Dan, thanks for the picture and the info. I rerouted the cable with a new bolt, the cable looks so much better mounted to the block rather than to the alternator bracket.
  15. Rob, I thought the same thing that I will probably never have to use the washers. But they need to work. Steve that is a great looking restoration.
  16. I agree Bruce and it wasn't all that hard to do
  17. I had a mechanic friend of mine suggest that the negative cable run to th block. Is the bolt for the exhaust manifold or just for the cable. I haven't looked at my car yet.
  18. The parts place sells sets of them which I used on my car. I may have a couple good ones left over.
  19. I'm not having that problem ether. Must be a browser issue
  20. Carl, my parts catalog shows that the bumper brackets and braces for the Monte and Chevelle are the same for 1970. So the inner brackets are the same for 70 and 71, part numbers are 3987057 and 3987058. The outer braces are listed for the 70 are 3975431 and 3975432. I hope that helps. Paul
  21. I was getting ready to order a first generation replacement washer pump from the parts place and I thought why not try to rebuild the original. The old pump was all seized up and I thought it was cooked. I took apart everything but the coil and soaked the small parts in simple green overnight. I cleaned the base with a brush and simple green and soaked the pivoting lever pivot with simple green. The lever started to move freely, I then cleaned all the small parts and started putting the pump back together. I applied all purpose grease to the moving parts. The plunger was still in good shape. I re-installed it the I was happy that it worked. I'm sure some members have re-built these pumps but I wanted to pass this along for those who might think the only way to fix them it to buy new.
  22. As Aaron said three nuts holding that molding on. They are a bear to get to, I screwed up a little spot on my passenger door when I didn't get then fender re-aligned. Good luck...
  23. Willie, I ordered AC Delco cables from Rock Auto. Perfect fit. Good luck
