  1. Thanks Dennis, that’s what I suspect after reading some info as will do compression test to confirm that the cylinders are in good shape. Curious what’s the complexity level for a DIYer to replace the valve seals as I never rebuilt an engine but did rebuilt other stuff like carb, brake caliper?
  2. All, I pulled all spark plugs except one, they all look the same in the pictures above. I noticed there’s small smoke coming from exhaust on passenger side as it comes and goes away. Is that how the oil burns? If so, what can I do to fix that?
  3. All, thanks for sharing and I took picture of the spark plug from each side, doesn’t look like oil is coming to them? will try the compression test soon.
  4. Assuming it’s by Shell and which weight should I get as I usually get 5w-30 as it seems to come in 10w-40 or 15w-40?
  5. Thanks all, I do not have non ethanol gas near me, is octane 87 ok as it runs fine?
  6. Not sure if the engine is original but it runs fine. I will need to pull the plugs to see what it looks like. for changing oil more frequently, do I use conventional oil or high mileage? Do I change oil filter when changing?
  7. I am wondering if you would give me some guidance on burning or loss of oil. It’s a SB 350, no visible oil leaks. After oil change, the oil turns black quite quickly. What should I do as I have to add 1 qt of oil every 1k miles. is this something I should be concerned if I just keep on adding oil?
  8. Welcome from other Rick to Rick! Nice car!
  9. From what I learned that external voltage regulator should be replaced when you replace alternator. So yes do get that replaced as I got mine from Napa for 72 GMC C15.
  10. Not that I can find other than trying to locate original ones that many discarded them.
  11. Happy Father’s Day to you all!
  12. I have same as others said on my Monte as it’s opposite for my 1972 GMC C15. As I learned it’s important to have PCV on one end and breather on other.
  13. Aaron, do you still have the original “coil” that control the open/close the choke? If so, might look into replace that?
  14. I went with aluminum radiator in my 350 as it has better cooling mechanism than original one and had no problem for several years now.
  15. +1 to Petronix as I converted my 350 to keep original look and it works well!
  16. Highly recommend get the door spring tool removal as it was a breeze for me to replace the pins and bushings!
  17. Aaron, here’s my 71 350 Baltimore tag as I was wondering about the “B” in the middle of the tag.
  18. Butch, congratulations on your purchases and welcome to the Monte madness!
  19. They are using push clips that you could use a plastic putty knife to pry it off as it has 3 holes for it.
  20. I’m only sharing my experience on 72 GMC C15 that had no power as it was simple a fuse that was blown and it runs fine after replacing the fuse And I mentioned one of first steps as I didn’t say it’s the only step 😁
  21. Check fuses as one of first steps.
  22. and looks in a better shape than when I bought mine for little more
