Idle Stop Solenoid

It energizes as soon as the key is turned on and is resting on the portion of the throttle and as soon as the pedal is pressed and released it rests against the solenoid adjustment screw.

And that’s fast and normal idle positions right?

It is normal idle.  You set it at regular idle

Isn’t it also used when the a/c is energized to keep the engine running a little bit faster when sitting in traffic in gear?

Dennis, it energizes when the key is turned on.  It is a one position solenoid.  It is either in an energized or deinergized position.  Usually if it is set at normal idle, if the AC is turned on the car should not stall.  That is how I have always set mine.

I had a switch on my 72 that energized when I turned the AC on.  It was and eldebrock solenoid that was wired into the AC compressor wiring it sped the idle up slightly and worked great. Removed it when I went EFI
