  1. You could also install a set of slapper bars. Look like traction bars for coil spring rear suspensions. Top photo- sons 71 "pandemic" Monte. Slapped together with "in stock" parts. 355, th400, 2500 hughs converter, 12 bolt, 4.10 posi, f-41 control arms and sway bar, 275/60r15 drag radials, 2.5 flowmaster exhaust system. Yes, everything was in stock. Spins tires on the street, not a squeak at the track. Stock front end rebuild. 77 GP- Dad's (RIP) ride. He was the original owner. 455 Pontiac, th400, 3000 ATI conv, 8.5 corporate rear, 3.90 spool, Hotchkiss boxed control arms and slapper bars, 3" flowmasters Last 2- 79 Grand Am. The 455 and th400 from Dad's GP ( it rotted away) , GN 8.5 with 3.90s and trutrac, Umi boxed control arms and sway bars, 3" full exhaust with ultraflow mufflers. Pic lifting left front wheel is without the no hop bars and the other is with. Just for comparisons.
  2. The et street r or radial pro. The street r is street "legal" while the radial pro "technically" is not. Adjustable rear shocks or adjustable coilovers are a good choice for the rear. Especially if you have KYBs in the rear. Stiff shock. You may even want to put an adjustable front shock also or even adjustable coil overs. Loosen the front end up a little to get the weight to transfer. I'm not saying the "no hop bars" are a bad thing. Just didn't like the way the car looked when launching. Also, before spending money on it, try lowering the rear tire air pressure a little to help with the tire spin.
  3. Hi. Install a set of 275/60 R15 drag radials. My 70 SS has Hotchkiss upper and lower control arms (stock location) qa1 adjustable shocks and a rear (stock) sway bar. Believe it or not the sway bar does alot for traction also. Not just for handling. And 275/60r15 Mickey Thompson drag radials. Still spins the tires easily but she's got a 496. Not much won't spin. Lolol The bars that relocate the upper control arms on the rear end actually make the car lift as opposed to squatting during launch. Think how Mopars launch with stock leaf springs. Great if you have a tire clearance issue, the body lifts away from the tire. Also, front end travel has an effect on rear traction also.
  4. Sad news. 😓 Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends
  5. My early 70, Sept 69, Flint built SS454 car has them also.
  6. Also Bob, when you remove the chrome trim on a factory installed trim car the holes where it mounts are huge compared to a non chrome trim car. The headlight bezels are actually different where the lower portion mounts.
  7. Congrats on your progress. Being that the Monte Carlo shares alot with other GM a-bodys you can use Chevelle, got, cutlass, skylark etc bolts. That being said, I would try places like Inline tube, ausleys, the parts place, ground up etc. for the bolts/kits.
  8. Welcome Mike! Sorry to see the damage. How is the frame horn? I hope it's not bent. Good luck!
  9. You do know that once you remove the tank straps that you can move the tank approximately 8 inches toward the rear bumper and will have no problem removing the tank.
  10. Stop overthinking it. It's just like Steve described. Small block, big block, 2" 2.5, 3" the tank comes out. The tailpipes run on the outside of the frame and the tank is on the inside of the frame. I have a big block, 3 inch tailpipes and the tank comes right out. Just make sure you don't have a full tank of gas. Extremely heavy then lol
  11. Most likely the cable at the transmission pipes out/off. The clip probably fell out. The cable also adjusts slightly at the transmission bracket where the back drive also connects.
  12. DragCat!?! What shake down numbers were you doing?!? Sorry about the trans mishap.
  13. Horrible news! Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Rest in peace....
  14. Welcome Kade! Love the history and story of your ride!

    New guy here

Welcome! Nice purchase! More pics! Lolol
  16. Scott, you are correct for a 200r4 or an older 700r4, non electronic. He has a th400 by the picture.
  17. Also, just in case, for those who do not know, always check the trans fluid hot like cny first gen 71 stated but also in park. Not neutral. The GM trans pump fluid in park.
  18. Not missing anything. Sometimes a lifter is not lined up with the oil passage. You could manually turn the engine a little or just drop the distributor back in and fire it up! Some cases the pushrods could be clogged with sludge. My "Barn find" 71 402 was sitting for 34 years before my son, brother and myself fired her back to life. All we did was change the oil, swap out carbs and fired her up! Been running since.
  19. Ooooofff! No pics? 🤔🤔🤔 Lolol
  20. Glad to hear you confirmed the numbers to the engine and transmission. You could get stock replacement lines or stainless lines and "tweak" them where needed. I got mine from inline tube.
  21. Welcome and good luck!!! Pics!!!! Lol
  22. Ok, aftermarket bellhousing is thicker to be sfi approved. Is the flywheel touching the new bellhousing? You may have to remove a little aluminum from the bellhousing to let the flywheel move freely. Common issue especially when a 168 tooth flexplate is being used.
