  1. Welcome Glen! We love pics! Lolol. Looks like a very nice acquisition! Good luck with her!
  2. The crossmember in my 71 402 4speed Monte Carlo is identical to the Chevelle crossmember. Bends and all including that it bolts directly to the frame. No rubber isolators.
  3. Sorry to hear about the theft. As far as the cross member, any 68-72 gm a-body will bolt in. Slight differences as we're notes but will all work. The Chevelles cross member bolts directly to the frame where the Monte Carlo is isolated by the rubber. I personally like the Chevelle mounting better. Less movement and up here in the north east the rubber isolated crossmembers tend to rust/rot in the rubber.
  4. Pandemic work! Lolol have gotten alot of work done to the fleet and a few other, outsiders cars thanks to this 🤬😡🤬🤬!!! Lolol. Nice plans and nice garage (s)!
  5. What you are seeing on the inside of your valve covers is condensation/moisture from sitting. A few heat cycles and it should go away. If not or gets worse there is a possibility that water is getting into the oil from the cooling system. That does NOT look like the case at this time.
  6. Finished up the car today. Added anitfreeze, burped coolant system after draining the 10w30 oil that we put in when we first started her after her 34 yr sleep. Installed new filter and 15w40 rotella oil. Hopefully clean her out some more. Lol. Added a qt of trans fluid. Wired in new harness for the kickdown for the th400 that was cut/crushed in 3 different places. No reason why. Fired her up, let her warm up and burp and then checked the timing. When we installed the pertronix distributor I set the timing at 12 degrees, up 4 from what the engine sticker says. Well obviously after r/r of the timing chain that was very worn, the timing specs would and should be off. Checked with the light and found the timing to be 35 degrees at idle. Woooooow! Way off from 12! Reset the timing and idle and Walla! Boy does she run better than before and she ran good before! Lol
  7. The green Monte pictured has a Glastek 4 1/2 bolt on fiberglass hood. Had one. Wish I still did sometimes.
  8. Hello all. This weekend's endeavor was the timing chain. As you all know by now, "Barn Find" was sitting for 34 years before I acquired her. She also has 109,000 miles on her. So while looking for parts for another project we stumbled across a cloyes double roller timing chain set that has to be over 30yrs new. Lol. Aka in stock.lol So we figured what the heck. Since when we installed the pertronix to the distributor and noticed a delay in the rotor turning when turning the crank by hand. Had to order a timing cover set. I know, What he didn't have that in stock?! Well we did. But unfortunately 30 yr new gaskets get extremely brittle and crumbled instantly. Lolol BUT we had them in stock. PXL_20201127_190238499.mp4 PXL_20201127_190238499.mp4 All done. Now have the front end to do. Everything is ready to go for that. Just need time lolol.

    12 point bolts

I have to retract the 4 12 point bolts on the radiator top plate. Those get 6 point ones. According to Kevin's 71 SS and my son's 71. Sorry.

    12 point bolts

Barn find, my 71 402 auto, doesn't have any 12 point bolts either. It was built September 70 for 71 at the baltimore plant.

    12 point bolts

On 71 and 72s there are 4 that hold the upper radiator plate on and I have seen them on the upper latch striker on the hood itself, 3 of them, besides the hood latch where you have them. 12 in total ,12 point bolts. 3 on the hood, 4 radiator plate and 4 for the hood latch. (2 to the rad support,2 to the tie bar/grille support and one to the support on the pass. side that holds the horn. Regular 6point bolt on driver's side horn if a dual horn car.)
  12. Ok. Thank you for that info. Put the engine back to the dyno sheet specs. Total of 35 degrees of timing, the 770 carb and NO vacuum advance. Your timing is probably off the chart advanced making the car a pig. Set everything back and I can almost guarantee a totally different car! For the better!
  13. What carb was the engine dynoed with? Put the timing back to his specs and try from there. You will probably be happy with the results. He had it set for best engine performance and power. When you reset it, those dyno figures went out the window.
  14. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Big or small or no gathering I hope everyone is safe and happy! This is the holiday where my family usually swap cars or projects. Lolol
  15. Thanks for the info. Is this a vortec pro engine? The numbers are good but normal for a peanut port big block. Meaning alot of torque and out of steam at lower rpm. With a normal size oval port head and a 468 cube big block 5500 rpm should be no problem. That being said and what you said I would first try bringing in the timing curve down to 2000 ish. What distributor are you running? Any quadrajet roughly is 750-800 cfm. Depending how far the secondaries open. I would see if anyone you know has a 650DP holley you can try. From your description it sounds like it is drowning on itself. Have a friend that just installed a vortec pro 468 into his Monte. Dynoed at the same numbers as yours only with oval port heads and a 650 quick fuel holley style carb. He says it's better on gas than the 355 small block he removed. He is running a th400, 2500 stall and a 3.73 gear and can smoke the tires at will. Edit: do you have the dyno sheets? Why did you change the timing? Before anything, reset the timing to the dyno specs and go from there. You may have too much timing and that's why the engine is flat. 530hp and 600 ftlbs should be fun to drive!
  16. You are more than welcome Rob. Extremely sorry of the outcome. 😖
  17. Ahhhh. LS turbo swap. Lolol. Ok. I just didn't want you to spend extra coin that you could use to upgrade your engine in it now.
  18. Hi. From what you described, at the moment, I don't see the need for 33 spline axles or a c clip eliminator kit. Your 402 won't break it. I do recommend the detroit trutrack. Every one of my running Monte Carlos and my son's Monte plus his GTO have one. Also running strange 30 spline street axles with the c clip. My red 70 has a 496, th400, 3.31 rear and has been ran at least 30+ times down the 1/4. No issues what so ever. The GTO has a ram air 3 400, M22, 3.73 and a 24yr old behind the wheel. Nuf said. Lololol His Monte just recently went to the track and was running 13.20@103 with a super mild small block and 4.10 gear. Building a big block now for it. The rear will stay the same except gears. Going 3.31.s What is your cars combination?
  19. Are you sure you have peanut port heads? What cubic inch is the engine? I was not aware the RPM intake was made for peanut ports. Only oval or square/rectangle port. If you have an oval port intake on a peanut port head the transition between the two could be your issue. Fuel puddling between the head and intake. What size holley avenger did your engine guy recommend? What's your timing set at? Cam specs? Converter size? Gear ratio?
  20. Ummmm, whose site did you look at? Why are you not happy with the holley?
  21. Tom, if you zoom in on the last pic, you will see very little space between the tire and what's left of the outer lip. The wheel wells are rotted on my son's Monte also. With the rim you mentioned, it will be 1/2" towards the wheel lip MORE than the one pictured on my son's Monte. Can you make it fit, sure. But will it be worth it? My "guesstimate" would be that you would have to trim the wheel lip flush with the outer quarter panel and it still MAY rub. Truly only one way to find out. You asked for opinions... Eagerly await pics. 😁
