  1. You can try that but it will still be the same. I installed a vacuum pump on my 70 SS and have never looked back. No more brake issues. Or you can get a hydroboost system. I went pump. Cheaper and kept the stock look of the engine compartment. I installed the pump under the front fender behind the washer bottle. Out of sight and so are the lines.
  2. Hey Tony. I know its not what you want to hear, but the saying is.... "There's a reason for everything." Sometimes, heck most of the time we don't know what the reason is. I believe you know what it is.... Family and benefits- damn good reason! Sorry for the closed door and happy for the new/re-entered one for you.
  3. You can take a standard bumper and drill the holes for the pad but I'm sure the SS bumper had its own part number. No one reproduces the SS bumper, only the standard bumper that I'm sure you know about.
  4. Big block? Small block? Either one, check out Ground up. Aka ss396.com. They have alot of stuff for our Monte Carlos even though it doesn't specifically say so. Look for the kits they make up. Saves time, headaches and mostly money.
  5. That's great Mike! I'm glad it worked out for you. I just sprayed the 12 bolt with the Eastwood chassis paint.
  6. So, my son decided today to swap out the stock 12 bolt axles in his 12 bolt for the newly "in stock" aftermarket Moser axles that were in my 12bolt before the rebuild. This was the first time for him working on the rear alone. I was assembling my newly rebuilt 12 bolt. He did great and was done quickly. Lolol The weather was HOT!!!
  7. This weekends progress between other projects. Lolol The 12 bolt is just about ready for installation into "Big Red" my 70 SS. Have to install the upper bushings for the control arms and install. Maybe this weekend ... 🤔
  8. I believe the VIN is on the driver's side above the selector lever/bracket.
  9. Ummmm. Even more important than the letter code on the tag, does it have the VIN number stamped on the transmission???
  10. Sand blast them, check for cracks, powder coat them cast, reinstall.
  11. Not sure with th400 but for example depending on the letter suffix of a 200r4 the valve body, servo, band and such were different. I would say the same for the th400 and th350 also.
  12. Nice Monte. I agree, they look good. I don't like the look with white letters. I feel a whitewall or redline would look better with the PO2 hubcaps. I love the look of Rally's with white letters.
  13. Hi all. Lucas high performance/heavy duty 80w-90. And the GM additive that were purchased on Amazon.
  14. Also keep in mind that the anemic 180 hp 305s in the 84-88 Monte Carlo Ss's had the 200r4 and 3.73s in them from the factory. And they cruise down the highway with no problems. Same for the olds 442s and Hurst olds- 200r4 and 373s. The GM had 200r4 and 3.42s. Not the 83 MC SS. They had th350s and 3.42 gears. Just some food for thought.
  15. Hey Aaron. Sorry that the 70 trans is giving up the ghost. I still feel what was suggested above and what you said is the way to go. Since the 70 is a one legger, non posi, may I suggest the posi, gear, bearing combo on eBay. I myself just purchased this combo and had it installed. I got the kit with a trutrac and 3.31s but it is also available with the Eaton style posi and any ratio you like The "guy" that did the work, a friend love known since I was a wee lad asked where I got the parts. I thought maybe something was bad. He said that they were quality parts and the gears set up real easy with a great pattern. He owns a chassis shop and has created some of the fastest and quickest cars in the north east.
  16. As I'm sure you know, check the backspacing on your buddy's "in stock" rims. Lol This time I am running Lucas 80-140w I believe. I will recheck tomorrow. No additive due to the fact that I am running a Detroit Tru Trac. No friction from clutches or cones. So no additive needed. I highly recommend it! I have destroyed factory Eaton, moroso brute strength, strange posi units through out the years, and I mean destroyed! Lol The only car in our fleet that doesn't either have a spool or a Detroit Tru Trac is my son's Monte. That will be getting the now "in stock" Moser axles with 2in long 1/2 studs. It has a clutch type eaton posi which will get the same Lucas oil with GM posi additive. For me the GM additive is the best. Have tried many others and also fluid that supposedly had it. Poor results compared to the GM stuff that ultimately was added.
  17. I just had strange axles installed in my 12 bolt. All A-body 12 bolts from 68-72 use the same length 30 spline axles. The 64-67 12 bolts are 1" shorter so the axles don't work. The strange axles and the Moser axles that were removed had both 7/16 holes for press in studs and 1/2 threaded holes for the screw in studs. I highly recommend the strange axles. Have 3 sets in 3 different 12 bolts. No issuses whatsoever.
  18. Yes, all 3 years are the same. Like 1970mcss stated. I personally installed the Chevelle steel front fenderwells in my 70 SS.
  19. That is the correct pump for a 71. Big block or small block. Just difference in brackets.
  20. Hey Jerry. I'm sorry, I read your dm to me and I haven't responded. 😞 I still haven't decided what to do about it yet. It still seems to be leaking slightly. I will keep you in mind if I swap it out. Sorry to hear about your damaged radiator.
  21. I think they are also. Just make sure if you do get them and install them you MUST have at least a 15x7 rim. They don't seat on a 15x6 which was the standard rim.
  22. Lol all good, ask away. I am using a driveshaft loop that bolts between the trans mount and transmission. I didn't want to drill holes in my virgin, solid floorboards. I did have to get a shorter trans mount to keep the geometry correct. Summit sells them.
