  1. Thanks Jay (and Jenny!). Yes, dinner was great, got to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. An all around good evening.
  2. Thanks Greg, I got lucky with finding a Shadow Gray... I would’ve settled for any color SS in this condition. More pix soon, hopefully with backdrops nicer than my alley 😂
  3. Spent four hours applying elbow grease to the Monte this afternoon in preparation for a nice drive to meet friends for dinner this evening. Washed, tires bleached and dressed, vinyl top conditioned, windows cleaned, chrome polished and a final wipe with quick mist detailer... or so I thought. I noticed the horizontal surfaces were rough to the touch. Broke out the clay bar and put two and two together... car must’ve been in close proximity to where the valve covers were painted (see the picture below - sure looks like Chevy Orange!). Car looks terrific, rode awesome and got a ton of looks. But pulling into the garage I noticed the exhaust tone was different. Suspected a leak somewhere on the passenger side and sure enough I found it immediately. Easy enough fix, but it’s always somethin’... PS - I had to share a quick video of the exhaust (pre-leak). 4. Still haven’t reserved my spot (was waiting to see if my girl was gonna be out of the shop in time). Will take a ride to the village hall sometime this coming week to see what’s what. I’ll update accordingly. Worst case scenario, I’ll roll through the show with mama for beers and to look at cars even if I don’t show my car.
  5. It’s so much easier to just roll down all four windows 😂😂

    zz top

Time flies. Most people don’t regularly think about how old their favorite bands/musicians are. I’ve been out of high school 33 years. High school is when I was introduced to a ton of great rock ‘n’ roll bands, ZZ Top one of them. And those boys looked old back then, LOL. RIP Dusty.
  7. Damn! Can you even fit a credit card between the starter and exhaust?? Gonna wrap/heat shield the starter?
  8. Ryan, My deepest heartfelt condolences. Like many, I grew up with and around dogs and losing one has got to be one of the worst things ever. My avatar is my CPD partner Mongo. I spend more time with him than with my family, so it will be an especially painful goodbye when his time comes. Don’t dwell on the immediate pain - this will pass with time. Rather, remember the 11+ years of good times and love that you gave him. No doubt he knew that you saved his life and he’ll be eagerly waiting you at Rainbow Bridge.
  9. Let me guess... you had them upside down and backwards???? 😂😂😂
  10. Forgot to mention the additional load requires a bigger alternator. I believe it has a 130 amp now.
  11. Have you considered electric fans? Mine kick on at 190 (using factory temp gauge) if AC is not being run. AC on? Fans run continuously. Drops the temperature back down to right around 165-ish in about a minute. I didn’t realize how much air those things pull through the radiator (not sure what CFM they’re rated for as they came with the vehicle and I haven’t looked that closely... yet). Not to mention it’s fun to pop open the hood while it’s running and watching people jump back when those fans kick on... they startle almost everyone the first time they experience it
  12. Yeah... i’m gonna call them tomorrow and find out where my last three items are: seat foam, door panels and rear quarter interior panels. I’m gonna have the interior done either over the winter or as soon as the weather breaks next spring. Either way I think the last estimated delivery date for everything still on back order in no was sometime in September.
  13. I also ordered covers, springs, foam from Legendary… The whole 9 yards. I’ve gotten everything but the foam. I can’t figure out the rhyme or reason behind their ordering / back order / shipping methodology.
  14. Thanks! Damn right it does. I’m skeptical by nature, so seeing everything with my own eyes removes any lingering doubt.
  15. Better late than never. Everything lines up as it should. The “typo” on the POP vs. head stamping is surely just that... an error on someone’s point during the sales process. I’m a happy boy...
  16. Prior to buying my 70 SS, I spoke extensively with the sellers mechanic who had done a ton of mechanical work to the car in the time he owned it. He replaced the cam, timing chain, valves, lifters, push rods, installed roller rockers...etcetera... He used Kendall “Liquid Titanium” 20W50 high zinc formula to break everything in and has used it for every oil change since that time. I wasn’t about to create bad juju so I’ve been using the same for my oil changes. I do however use AC Delco filters. Anywho... six of one, half dozen of the other. Everybody has their own favorites, regulars, usuals. Try different things until you achieve the desired results.
  17. I see I’m not alone with odometer (and related) pix. Here’s my Monte last fall before I put her in the bubble for the winter and my daily driver Crown Vic from a couple years ago when I bought her. Nothing beats a “used” federal LE car driven by a supervisor, ha!!! Mine was department of homeland security supervisor car out of Oregon. Pro Tip: most federal agencies dump their vehicles at 10 years old regardless of mileage and condition. Anybody looking for a Crown Vic P-71 should get one now as 2011 was the last year for those workhorses. Try to find federal examples as they generally don’t abuse their cars like the city boys do. Stay away from K9 vehicles as they run constantly and idle hours are through the roof.
  18. I’m also good for that from time to time...
  19. Brew... Enlarge the photo and look into the woods...
  20. Nice car and welcome to the club!! And I’m assuming you made it out of there without incident? You’re gonna be famous when the scientific community and local media start pounding on your door...
  21. Looks like it was a great time on a perfect day.
  22. Those seats appear to be just a few farts away from being unsalvageable.

Welcome Jerry!! ... yes, these beauties do turn heads, elicit thumbs up and a variety of positive comments at red lights. Last time I took mama to dinner in my ‘70 she commented “EVERYBODY is lookin’ at this car” as we made our way there and back. Enjoy!!!
