  1. Clean floors and roof and then spray lizard skin on the floor, tubs, quarter panel, trunk floor, firewall and roof.
  2. Doug I saw you ask this on Facebook. It comes down to taste. A factory two will need the trim to break the two color apart. My 72 left the Maryland plant without the vinyl top but the rear window channel was completely gone which is odd for a non-vinyl car. I had a complete trim vinyl top trim for a 71-72 which I restored with the painted edge. I will be using double sided tape to hold the trim down vs welding in the pins and tracking down the clips.
  3. Here's what we did for my 72 the filler goes right through the trunk latch into a 2" ID hose to the fuel cell.
  4. By going to that style you'll have to re-do the gas tank neck or even switch over to a fuel cell. My 72 has a fuel cell in the trunk with a gas filler in the tail panel going to the fuel cell. Many thing is to make sure it flows towards the tank.
  5. Here is the Q-jet bracket from ss396 http://www.ss396.com/chevelle/3992376.html and here is the reproduction one http://www.ss396.com/chevelle/AXK-68.html
  6. Mackenzie try ss396.com they show stock style throttle cable bracket.
  7. Bob the easiest and best way is to unhook everything from the body to the frame and raise the body up. The brake line connection you are looking for is only on the frame and not tied to the body.
  8. KG I think you will need a cowl induction hood do to the height of the intake. If you take a 4' level (should be long enough) lay it on the fender and measure down to your current intake. It might be close once you add the under hood braces.
  9. The paint fairy showed up and did some work. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20431324_1599244043443896_3995962919658324012_n.jpg?oh=2004d0d2c3fda1359c657ba8d1098f43&oe=59F5D932 https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20476594_1599422330092734_6584630914363664907_n.jpg?oh=1f3df270f23a24cde21247ce38c7a173&oe=59EE4EB7 Sad part is trash got in the paint work https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20431304_1599423933425907_6834463109727719522_n.jpg?oh=f57580313c251d146ca6239cd27c088f&oe=5A330363
  10. Been prepping the top for some color. Hopefully no set back tonight while it drys and color in the morning.
  11. Had the wheels off the 72 and grab some pictures of the work that was done and even slide the drive shaft into place. Cut the wheel studs down so I can run the matching rear lug nuts.
  12. Bill I have that setup. I have the clutch fan setup for low speed in the shroud and the radiator has a dual 12" elec fan mounted to the radiator. When it was all put together it would see temps less then 210° on warm(hot) days. The elec fans are set to run after the car is shut off which helps it cool down alot.
  13. So based on what I can find you will need this part https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-20-112/overview/ and this one https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-20-119/overview/. The bracket that i have on my TBI Holley is only available for a 700r4 trans.
  14. They didn't, but they do make a bracket that will bolt to the rear of the carb.
  15. If you have the wire diagram granted its hard to follow it will give you an ideal.
  16. Got to spend some time on the 72 rolled it out to weld the wheelie bars on.
  17. Doug with the changes you are making plus the harness being 47 years old might be faster and safer to buy a new harness. I know the cost is the bad part but in the long run it would be easier. For a new harness you'll need the dash harness, console harness (unless you already have that), and the under the hood. Going from the warming lights harness to the gauge style the under hood is different as well since you need a water temp reading gauge vs a light sending unit.
  18. If you are talking about the one at the rear it's the same as the dome light.
  19. Dan I wonder if you could make those gasket from a gasket sheet?
  20. Darren on ours it had factory metal lines going to each shock location and used a metal or even a brass T at the rear to supply the air. By the time we got the car/truck some one had replace the the original air shocks with regular shocks. We did put air shocks back on it but ran the plastic air line with each having their own filler. And things are good still trying to sale items can't have all the toys any more. Now for Kelly's maybe the plant didn't have the correct shocks on hand and grab the ones that is on his Monte just a thought I mean we are talking about the 70's where different car items could be found as a swap part.
  21. Darren from what I've read most if not all el Camino had factory air ride
  22. If it has the original trans take a look at the passenger side right by the kick down cable you will see a elec connection for the TCS on the transmission.
  23. Phil take a look at American Auto Wire they make a 70-72 Monte harness with the newer fuses and horn relay. I have their harness in both my 70 and 72. My 70 has aftermarket gauges, stock power windows and door locks and a aftermarket keyless entry system. The 72 is all stock gauges power windows, power seats even add EFI to it. You do have to put the ends on for the connection just like the painless system but you have a color sheet to work off vs a black and white book of pages.
  24. Two chain hoist or a 4x4 or 6x6 with a grove cut in it to catch the pinch weld and a floor jack.
