  1. Welcome! Great looking 71 Monte Carlo.
  2. I was lucky, in July 1985, I bought a 71 with the 350 and no A/C just like mine and swapped everything including all the harnesses under the hood, and it worked great! Then I went to sell the doner and the starter went out so I had to drop the price. I wish I could remember what that price was. Good luck!
  3. After sitting for several days or longer, my stock 71 350 Qudrajet 4 BBL, requires that I crank it for around 10+ seconds to refill the float bowl, then it will start and run fine. If I drive it the next day it starts fine. I sealed the "plugs" on the bottom of the carb years ago and they could be leaking again or it just evaporates while sitting. My garage does smell of gasoline after I take it for a ride and it's a warm or hot day. If I had an electric fuel pump, I could turn the ign switch on, let the pump fill the carb and I bet it would start quickly then! I'm sure you already checked that the CHOKE plate closes after the gas pedal is pushed one time to release it when the engine is cold.
  4. There is a small hole in that blue plastic plug.
  5. It may have already been thrown out. To be honest, I don't remember for sure but I remember the hose labeled "VENT PIPE" has a oval drawing on the hose and I assumed that is where it went. Where I put it, I can't remember for sure, sorry.
  6. Looking at some old pictures and thought I would pass this on.
  7. Heather, great news! What is the shop's name? Where is it located?
  8. Praying you have a speedy recovery!
  9. Not sure if this can be of any help but it can't hurt. 71 fuel evaporative hose routing from the tank. Several years ago I replaced all the "original" rubber hoses and almost threw out this hose but found a very small plastic "restrictor" inside one of them. The three hoses on top of the charcoal emission canister are: - from the fuel tank area - from the PCV system (This is where it gets sucked to) - the trigger hose to open the diaphragm allowing the vapors to be sucked into the engine. (I had a vacuum leak in the diaphragm, and replaced the entire canister) There are two pictures posted showing the vacuum switch, on the evap canister, that when you accelerate the diaphragm opens and allows the vapor to enter the engine and be burned under acceleration. There is also a large hose on the bottom of the evap canister, but I'm not sure what it is for. BTW, after I drive my Monte and park it in the garage, it makes the entire garage smell from gasoline. Perhaps I have a leak? (Or it is from the original Quadrajet) I bet you wish you had all this stuff attached and working now right? Not sure if this was different in California in 71 or if it was started earlier like in 1970?

    Radio.

Steve G, Good old Triumph TR I had one for a short time from my older brother to restore and sell back and now it is his son's 1963 TR-3B. So much fun! Here is a picture of it from Sept 2022 after it's second restoration.
  11. Welcome, great looking Monte!
  12. 78_79_jan_feb.pdf It is a PDF file and I believe you will need to download it.
  13. His site is spectacular!!!!!!!! Love it!!! http://www.lov2xlr8.no/
  14. There were 2 first gen Monte Carlos, converted to convertibles in the area just North of Detroit, Michigan. I believe the original owner / builder has passed but one, blue, still was owned by his son, at the Woodward Dream Cruise 2 years ago. I can't find the picture I took but remember seeing them several times years ago.
  15. Welcome! You have a super great looking Monte there! Enjoy it.
  16. I drove one that was traded in at the Ford dealership I worked at many years ago. It was so strange to drive a 71 Monte with a 3 speed stick in the column.
  17. I replaced the springs on my 71 because I felt it was bottoming out, back in the late 80's and remember getting them from a Chevrolet dealer and went stock on the rear but ordered springs for a 350 with A/C. I don't have A/C but thought I would some day. (not) I don't have any part numbers or spring info. I had air shocks on in the 70's for my snowmobile trailer, but removed them during the resto. I remember thinking the original ft springs were so low, the new replacement ft springs would shrink after several years and they did a bit, but not as much. Perhaps a funny story, to me, I was asked by CARC INC., in March 2004, if they could take pictures of my car for there catalog and or calendar. I agreed and drove to a studio on Van Dyke in Centerline, Michigan. The photographer was great and set my car up to take the pictures. After adjusting the camera he said the car was a bit too high and did something to the suspension to lower both ft and rear. Here are 3 of the pictures I took when they were getting ready. What a great day, and it didn't snow!!
  18. Just watched it. Yep Happy the great looking 70 SS 454 was not the final scene. I can sleep OK tonight. 😊
  19. Was there one or two different cars? In one I believe it is a 71 ft end but another picture it looks like a 72 from the rear. I need to go watch it, I recorded it last night.
  20. I ordered my 71 W/O A/C because I ran out of money. About 20 years later I wanted to add it and got all the parts (Including part of the firewall) to add it but decided I didn't want to do that much work. Still have all the parts in the basement.
  21. What year? With stock A/C or aftermarket A/C or W/O A/C? I believe if there is a vacuum leak in the system (with factory A/C) or it is not hooked up (vacuum line came off) the airflow will automatically flow to the windshield defroster vents on the dash but if they are unhooked or broken or the plastic tubes broke off, it may flow all over the place. One more thing to ask yourself, if it worked in the past, what changed? New radio or speakers, new heater core......... Good luck!
