  1. Sounds good! My (8 year old DELL) crashed after we had a power failure several weeks ago. I reloaded everything and it was doing fine but now I'm starting to get several error messages, on start up, about files being corrupt. It is running all the items I use fine. I wonder if my hard drive is starting to fail! Bruce
  2. Just posting a quick test I remember using, to test for bad plug wires. When it's dark out, open the hood, spray the wires and cap with water with a mist sprayer (like a Windex sprayer) have someone start it, put it in gear (automatic trans) and brake torque the engine, look for sparks at the boots on both ends and along the wires. I remember my dad's 66 Olds 425 sparking like a Christmas tree when we did that years ago. It ran poor when it rained till I replaced the wires. Bruce
  3. If everyone registered their cars in the Registry and the topic was pushed or advertised, it may help.
  4. Great! It was an easy install, but I twisted one of the belts and that took some time to un-twist it. They warn about that in the information sheet. Bruce
  5. Yes, get the safer three point system! Bruce
  6. My friend had one, totaled it in the late 70's :-( Bruce
  7. My 71 was ordered with DELUXE seat belts. That option included the smaller brushed female buckles for two (of three) ft seat lap belts and a place to store the belts when not in use. Here are some pictures of the "storage device". Bruce Deluxe Seat Belt pics
  8. Thanks! It's too late.........
  9. Winston, great pictures and description! Bruce
  10. I went to Europe in 1972, London to be specific and haven't made it back since. Darn hackers! Lost all my E-Mail contacts so they probably won't do it to me again, I hope! Bruce
  11. I think a DRY vs WET compression test would indicate a problem with the rings. To check this: Remove all 8 spark plugs, prop open the throttle slightly, (to insure the engine gets enough air) check and record the compression on all 8. Next, squirt into one cylinder, through the spark plug hole, some fresh engine oil, check and record the compression. repeat this process with the remaining 7. If there is a large difference in DRY vs WET, you could have a ring / piston / cylinder bore problem. Invest in a good compression tester that will screw into the plug hole, not a hand held rubber tipped style.
  12. What a pain, the phone didn't stop all day with worried family members and friends. I thought my password was a good one but I was wrong. Be careful out there! Bruce
  13. My G mail account stangeba just was taken over. If you get one from me, I'm not stuck in Europe and don't send money. Sorry, Bruce
  14. My wife helped me remove and re-install the hood on my Monte Carlo. Ain't no big thing. (just 6 feet of steel) Big TO DO first is to mark where the hinges are, prior to removal, so you can line it up quickly when you re-install it. I've seen the use of two studs screwed into the hood so the hood didn't slip. Add the two bolts, tighten then remove the studs and add the last two bolts. Don't do it in the wind either! Bruce
  15. Here are a few places to check out that should help. speedo calc site one more speedo calc site
  16. Anyone use AVAST anti virus?
  17. I've used it for about two years now. One or two things it won't do but still use it. I am starting to dislike COMCAST's free NORTON. It prevents things like YOU TUBE for even working most of the time. Bruce
  18. A new flex plate is part of a kit we sell at Stovebolt, to adapt an old six cylinder engine to new automatic transmission. Tom must check each and every new flex plate for run out both of the ring gear and front to rear run out or wobble. Just last month he returned 29 out of 30 new flex plates for being out of spec. FYI Bruce
  19. Not sure why but my brother in-law (a retired Chevy / GM power train engineer) tells our customers to never use plastic filters and be sure to put filters after the fuel pump not before the pump. He recommends a stainless housing filter that looks similar to the above picture. Bruce
  20. Yes, this sounds plausible - according to "deep throat" (my secret source) GM actually had two V12 experimental engines in the late '60's - one at Cadillac and one at GM Engineering Staff. Both were single overhead cam designs. They had major problems on the dyno and never made it past the initial stages. I can't verify if they made it into a vehicle, but it is possible. Bruce
  21. What has changed? I would also look for the vacuum line off the trans or intake. Could the kick down cable be stuck or has fallen off? Have you changed anything, moved anything? Even something a simple as a different air cleaner assembly could cause the trans vacuum line to be knocked off or pinched. Good luck!
  22. Didn't Nissan have an NX? Just kidding, mine leaks a little too.
