  1. Very nice. I see you have cruise control. Not a common option on our cars.
  2. Would probably work but you can stay with automotive paint. Any place that sells Duplicolor touch up paint will have a small tube of clear. http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-SFSS100-Clear-Scratch-Seal/dp/B0056GUSNM
  3. Closed from 70-76 street for the show. Cars lined up on both sides of the street and down the side streets. Worth going to if you can make it. Pictures from last year 500 pictures if you have the time http://www.flickr.com/photos/downtownwestallis/sets/72157631829751004/ Even have a 70 Monte on page 3.
  4. You will need this style for rally wheels since they have the hold downs facing the inside of the wheel instead of the outside like regular wheels. http://hubcapmike.com/rc1m-baby-moon-hubcap.html
  5. Too bad, maybe you can make this one. I'll spend a few hours there depending on the weather. Great show. If you haven't been to it, I recommend it. "Sunday October 6th 10 am to 3 pm 70th Street and Greenfield Ave., West Allis, WI reg; $15 DOS, 1st 425 goodie bags, trophies and plaques in 15 different catagories, , food and refreshments, area businesses open Contact: Dianne 414-774-2676
  6. Glad you have most of it figured out and can drive it. Are you going to Jefferson show and swap next weekend? I'm planning to spend Saturday there if the weather is good.

    1970 SS COPO

In 1970 yes but that quote is talking about 1971 so no Ls6 for Chevelle. "heavy-duty clutch option on the order form suggests that it may have been possible' Using this type of logic, we should all be looking for a factory 1970 convertible since the use and care instructions are in the owners manual.
  8. Did you check the accelerator pump as Bruce suggested? A bad one can cause hesitation off the line if it doesn't shoot extra gas into the carb when it's needed.
  9. "So that isn't a oil temp connector?" There is no oil temp connector. Oil pressure sender and connector is next to the distributor on a small block.
  10. That broken green wire is for the temperature sender for your dash gauge or light. Don't recognize the other wire but I'm sure someone will.
  11. Wires should be tight in the cap and be a nice clean aluminum or copper color depending on type of ends your wires have. Would be a very noticeable miss if one or more plugs isn't firing.
  12. http://www.osborn-reproduction.com/catalog/ProductDetail.asp?rsProduct_Position=FIL%3ACAT+%3D+%27CA6A%27ORD%3AABS%3A5KEY%3APAR%3A Lists his as fitting 71-78 with original part number 3998583. $4.00
  13. You're up in Ernie country. "Who do you know wants to buy a car?" I'm on the North end of Racine close to the power plant. I get to Milwaukee a lot to visit friends and relatives. Still willing to come look if you want. Any time Saturday or Sunday works for me.
  14. " Almost wonder what a flooding condition may be like." If it is flooding, there will be black smoke coming out the tail pipe. Same thing if it floods out and dies. Would need to floor the gas pedal to start it and exhaust would be very dark. Do you still have a points distributor? If so, when were they last replaced? If recently, were they gapped right? Your picture shows part of the TCS system. Most people have disconnected it and it won't be a problem unless the vacuum line to it isn't plugged. Are you near Milwaukee/Racine area? Willing to look at it in person if you're close.
  15. If the cable and connections are good, all that's left is the drive gear on the output shaft and the driven gear it runs. Maybe misaligned or teeth worn? Had a problem with the drive gear on a turbo 350 once. Wouldn't stay in place on the output shaft. Repositioning it several times before putting in a new one. That fixed it.
  16. Check the Chevelle repro parts sites and catalogs. Same system just longer hoses than the 71 SS Chevelle.
  17. Even into the 80s. Had an 84 Caprice with that set up.
  18. Lot of trouble for a dealer to go through when he could just order the wider molding and not take a chance on messing up one or two cars doing a swap. This was most likely one of those "OOPS" moments on the assembly line. Can't be 100% sure about what happened 40+ years ago. Your guess about the color key caps sounds plausible since they were over rally wheels.
  19. Carb heat soak problem. Here are a few sites to look at for ideas. http://www.edelblog.com/tech-tips/resolving-heat-soak http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=132115 Also, do you have stock exhaust with a heat riser? If it doesn't open all the way, or is stuck closed, your right bank exhaust will be running under the carb in the intake cross over and could be the problem. It should be closed when the engine is cold and open when it's warmed up.
  20. Changes in how horsepower was measured, engine detuning, and some number fudging from the car makers for insurance purposes make this change for 72 confusing. http://ateupwithmotor.com/automotive-terms/47-gross-versus-net-horsepower.html This site explains it well.
  21. Which steering wheel? Standard 70 different than 71-72, also optional wheels, etc.
  22. Hemmings also sells a high zinc oil. http://www.hemmings.com/store/new.html About half way down.
  23. If you feel the urge to go, I'll be there about 2-3 hours in the morning.
  24. I've also gone spring and fall for many years. No special area to look. Some years find parts and other years find nothing. Usually 2-4 first gen Montes in the show or car corral areas. Do you get to the Skips shows/swaps in Illinois? One coming up on the 17th. http://www.midwestswapmeets.com/ai1ec_ev...2/?instance_id=
  25. Try posting in the for sale wanted section. I'm sure you will get many leads and offers.
