  1. What does the pad behind the alternator have stamped on it?
  2. Opgi is just a rebranded part. Go on eBay and do research and compare. I got mine from eBay. Much cheaper for the same part.
  3. I also have my trans fluid running through the radiator first then the aftermarket cooler. Running stock bb radiator and 7 blade factory clutch fan. Never sees over 180 degrees. Depends on the look you are going for as to what parts to use.
  4. Thanks Dan! Some beautiful pics and great story on the plaque.
  5. Bypass. There are a few kits to do just that.
  6. Allegedly a dick Harrell dealership LS-6 conversion before the car was delivered to the original owner I believe. The closest, documented Monte Carlo SS454 to being a factory built LS-6 Monte Carlo.
  7. Here is a pic of my factory coil and wires from my 71 402 "barn find" 2 wires to the negative- the distributor and tach. 3 to the positive- 2 into one connector to the harness and one to the capacitor.
  8. Oops! I goofed. So sorry. 710 is black vinyl buckets , NOT cloth. ☹️ Code 67 some consider a brown. The 71 402 4speed my brother, son, and I are restoring is classic copper with a white vinyl top with a dark saddle interior (brown) . Take a look at the 72 Monte for sale by 714024speed in the for sale section for the interior color. Again, sorry for the incorrect interior .
  9. Thanks! It's a special anniversary edition/color. Laser blue. Supposedly, not many 2010 Sierra's and Silverados were built with this color. There is a blue that's similar but it's blue. The laser blue does a flip flop. My son and brother call it blurple. Sometimes it looks blue other times purple. Lolol
  10. Hey Willie, wish I knew. If I was beating it, I would understand. Now with the new Truetrac differential I can beat it to a pulp if I like. Lolol
  11. If I decifered your trim tag correctly, your beautiful SS was born Classic copper-67 , black bucket cloth interior-710, white top-A.
  12. Hello all. This is a post for those of you who have full size GM 1500 series trucks and the G80 "gov lock" posi unit. It has been installed in the GM light duty truck rears 8.5/8.625 since the mid 70s and GM still uses this, for better lack of a word, junky unit. I have a 2010 GMC Sierra that is my daily driver and tow vehicle. For the better half of 2 weeks the rear has been "locked" , like a spool for no reason. Knowing these rear carrier units well, I decided to purchase a Detroit truetrac unit and new carrier bearings. I personally love the truetrac unit having installed many and having one in my 70 SS that has been beaten hard and is taking all the abuse I can throw at it. Well, take a look at the pics of the original "gov lock" . Just a heads up for those who do not know....
  13. Dan, the plate works great!!! Thank you for making them. Would make a great Xmas gift!
  14. Hi. My brother and I are also restoring a 71 factory 4 speed 402 Monte. We just did what you are trying to do. Is yours a console car or not? The 4 speed humps are different shape but same method of installation. The hump is spot welded around the the outer perimeter. Then sealed with some seam sealer. For whatever reason the entire hole that the 4speed hump covers on the floorpan itself is cut out. Hope this helps.
  15. The fuel gauge circuit is grounded at the fuel sender in the fuel tank I believe. The ground under the dash is for the cluster itself. I don't have any 72 clusters laying around to check.
  16. Welcome! She is awful pretty!
  17. Welcome Ron! Beautiful SS you have there!
  18. Hey Damon. Without changing the cam I would install a performer rpm and a 650 dp. This way when you upgrade cam you won't be spending money twice. Aluminum heads will make it better. I also recommend an msd distributor and 6al. The factory points leave alot on the table. Doesn't sound like you want to keep it looking original so I would start there.
  19. Hi Bob. The main difference is the gauge lettering/number colors. The 71-72s are white and the 70 is greenish. Floor shifters don't have the P-R-N-D-2-1 at the bottom of the speedometer where column shifted Montes do.
  20. Look great! Nice job! Let us know how she handles compared to before the improvements.
  21. Get the tool and take your time. Best and easiest way to remove without damaging the trim.
  22. Wow! Manual steering, 4 speed, 402, gauges...... Hot rod!!!! But tilt. 🤔 Nice looking piece! I vote for bench seat. Lol
