  1. What is wrong with the 71 nose? Fenders are interchangeable as is the hood. Also if you go with the 72 front end, you may have to change the front light harness.. idk if the turnsignal harness/socket will reach the 72 grille location.
  2. Jared and Kevin (714024SPEED) already showed with pics that the 71 to 72 tie bar assy is different for each year. Physically. The new question is when they started installing them. Kevin's late 71, June of 71, low milage original has the 72 tie bar. The early 71, January of 71, has the correct for 71 tie bar. I'm sure we have all heard of plants using up prior year parts on early (next) year cars but has anyone heard of using the next year's new designed parts on the year before (late in year) cars? ðŸĪ”
  3. Hey Willie. Soup to nuts without resinators-510.00 with resinators- 536.00
  4. You're welcome. Glad I could help. If you go with the system from Ground up, let me know how it fits. I won't be needing it till late spring/early summer..... Hopefully. Lol
  5. Yes the wheelbases of the Chevelle and Monte are different. But where the engine is located to the firewall/body relation is the same. The exhaust will work.
  6. Hey 4speed. I personally am going to go with the exhaust system from Ground Up aka ss396.com. The system they have is complete from the exhaust manifold to the tips, gaskets, studs, hangers and tips a truly one stop deal. It's listed for a Chevelle but bolts right up to our cars. And it doesn't break the bank.
  7. Canuck, you forgot year specific bumpers, 72 only grille brackets also. Fenders can interchange with slight modification. MonteMack, what are you thinking of doing and why? 72 nose on a ????. If 71 a little easier. If 70, like I suggested you would be better off with a complete nose assy.
  8. Basically the easiest way is swap complete noses. Bolt on.
  9. Only the speedo cable is necessary. You could remove the gear housing if you wish but is not necessary.
  10. Leghome, that is correct unless you make the holes for the signals to pass through. Jared, interesting find. I will have to look at my 71s and 72s again.
  11. Hey Chris, usually a slight tap with your hand by the tailshaft seal (driveshaft seal) should do it.
  12. Hey Chris, the th400 tailshaft housing should be a gasket.
  13. I personally have not put hardened valve seats in any of my engines that did not have them from the factory. The 496 in my 70 SS has the original seats for 990 heads, the 71 402 in my 4 speed that is rebuilt, same thing. No hardened seats. You will hear all sorts of opinions on the subject. It's really up to you and your engine builder. Again, I have not put hardened seats in heads. Never had an issue. Even in the engines I have had just for racing. Pontiac 455s and even the 468 in my cavalier. Been freshened up many times and always good. Have daily driven many vehicles without hardened seats many miles. Never a valve problem. Usually a cam love rounding out or a bearing problem have happened. Used pump gas, no additives, and some race fuel when racing. Mostly for the smell. Lol Just my .02
  14. Jared, do you mean the core support itself? The upper "tie" bar, where the upper grille bolts to is the same for 71-72. The lower "filler" panel, between the bumper and core support are also. The core support itself is different between a 71 and 72. As you stated the 72 has holes in it for the turn signal light sockets to pass through.
  15. Hello! Welcome to the club!
  16. Katman, go back and read 714024SPEEDs post. Both are the same orientation.
  17. Not a flip copy. Look at the pics I posted. Especially of the pair. They are left and right specific and have different part numbers for each. Also hard to see but the studs on the back are in slightly different locations .
  18. Hey Tony. That looks like the puppy! Good luck.
  19. What about a 3/8 inverted flare to -6? The stock pump uses a 3/8 inverted flare as opposed to a 3/8 NPT.
  20. Hey Katman, I looked at all my Monte's in the fleet (5) and they all have the "knurled verticle thingy" at the top of the vents. Bother sides. Hope this helps.
  21. The "hockey sticks" are on a 71 SS car. They are on the back tail panel, on the end caps above the normal trim pieces. The panel is then blacked out between the trim. They look like the lower end cap trim only bent with a tighter curve and are held on with a nut on a stud opposed to screws for the lower pieces. Actually they look like this, off the car.....
  22. On small blocks the negative battery cable is grounded to the alternator bracket. On big block cars it's grounded to the block. Thats the factory spots.

    Kind of Cool

Wow! That's cool! What are the odds of that? When you chat with him again congratulate him and his family to both additions! And thank you for sharing the story! 🎉😁
  24. Oops! I must apologize. I stated that my 402 4speed has the pic knobs when in fact it does not. But my 71 402 auto does. ðŸĪŠðŸĪ”
