    Cam question

I have a solid flat tappet in my 496. I use joe gibbs oil that has a high zinc content. A friend of mine that builds engines said I should change to the rotella oil. High zinc and cheaper.

  14. Rob, I'm sorry to hear this news. I was hoping the wife would honor her late husband's wishes and sell it to you.😓🤬
  15. Hello all! So, today we took the quarantine built with in stock parts Monte Carlo to the track. Atco, NJ to be exact. To see what she'll do. Had a good day. Found out we have a fuel problem at the top end, sprung a leak in the brake line from the proportioning valve to the rear but other than that, a good day. Best time was a 13.20@103

Welcome Gilbert!!! Like Rob said, we love pics! Lol
  17. A roller will make more power than a solid flat tappet cam. Also, with a roller you can use any oil with a hydraulic or solid flat tappet you should use an oil with a high zinc content. An added expense every time you change the oil.
  18. I'm running a solid flat tappet cam in my 496. What are your plans for your car? The valve train is noisy compared to a hydraulic lifter. Your supposed to check valve lash, none with hydraulic. Now a days you can get a variety of hydraulic cams with better profiles to out perform the old LS6 solid cam. Not that it was a bad cam in its day.
  19. Please keep all that white stuff up north!! Lolol. Not looking forward to it anymore. Lolol
  20. You're welcome and that's why we are here. To help each other out.
  21. The way the coil is pictured is upside down. The top of the coil is on the floor. The "pigtail" is supposed to located between the 2 holes in the pocket of the lower control arm.
