  1. Hey gang. Lol just a brief update. Have been doing alot of little stuff on the. "barn find" Got all the exterior lights working. R/r both headlights, misc bulbs and l/f turnsignal harness , reverse light housings all with good used stuff that was in stock. Got the horn working with some steering wheel/column parts and a good used horn. In stock parts. Lol Had the original numbers matching/correct carb rebuilt and installed it along with a new divorced choke coil and cover. Also installed a new nos a/c throttle solinoid. Purrs like a kitten, even though it's a 402. Purrs like a cat just doesn't sound right. Lolol Bolted the grille on with the correct bolts and hardware I purchased from Vic at East Coast Bolts. I know, your saying, WHAT? He doesn't have them in stock!?! Well I do, a couple of sets BUT I couldn't find them. Lol now that it's done I will. Lololol
  2. And a 70-72 buick skylark. Same trunklid except for the emblem holes in the buick and Chevelle. Also, no holes for the trunk emblem/crest for the Monte.
  3. Officially welcome Dennis! Nice collection you have.
  4. Welcome Jamal! Aaron gave you some well thought out answers. I agree with his suggestions. Good luck on your search.
  5. Rob, I believe you may be correct. I will have to recheck on "barn find" lol
  6. You can get the "Birthday" of your Monte off of the trim code plate on top of the firewall. Also if your lucky enough, there should be a sticker with your vin number and "build date" on the driver's door near the lock mechanism in the jamb and as you are lucky enough to have, a build sheet. Some of us, especially with Montes built in the Flint plant don't have them.
  7. Corvette rally rims are only 15x8 and have a 4" backspacing.
  8. Just for comparison, my "barn find" 71 402 is the exact same as Dtret.
  9. Also check out East Coast Bolts, Vic. He has bolt kits that have the correct markings and such. Great guy to deal with.
  10. Welcome to the club Gary! Sounds like a nice Monte you are the original owner of. Any pics? Lolol
  11. I happened across these... Maybe this will work for what you want to do.
  12. Here are a few pics of my brothers 72 before he sold it. It had 15x7 factory Rally's and I believe 225/70r15 redlines. No clearance issues at all. Even if the car was lower the derby caps had ample clearance. Hope this helps. I like the BFG's. My son's Monte has the Cooper cobras on it and they are good. So he says. Lol
  13. Hey, there should be a ground from the back of the block, usually on the driver's side. Thought the years these usually disappear. What I do is the grounding "trifecta" Ground straps from the engine to body, body to frame and frame to engine. This does not include/count the negative battery cable. Grounds are extremely important if you have a console car. This way the shifter cable doesn't become the ground and siezes plus good grounds stop alot of the electrical gremlins you may have/get without them.
  14. Just to add to Rob's response, they now make the skirt mounting brackets and hardware new.
  15. Good question. I have at least 5 pairs.
  16. Hey Chris. The orange lens is for the 70 El Camino. Like Rob said, the 70 Monte should be clear with a metal ornament in the middle. I have used a "chrome" type spray. I believe Eastwood has a paint for this application that was used.
  17. Welcome welcome! Nice stable mates it has!
  18. A stock th400 shallow pan takes 12qts with stock converter. With a deep pan, 14qts with stock converter. I always add 4qts before starting car. Once started add a total of 10 qts (6 more) and start checking the level from there. All depends on the converter size you use.
  19. Ahhhh. Lol. You then can get spacers to raise your air cleaner like Leghome said. I got some of those also but went with the new repo assy. I think I got an assortment of spacers, plastic from summit I believe. You could also mark where the float level adjusting nuts hit your air cleaner and drill/hole saw a hole for clearance. The triangles I refer to are at the front of the aircleaner that I thought were interfering with the Holley air horn/choke. They hold the air filter assy onto the Rochester carb so the air horn stays facing the direction needed.
  20. Yes, you can cut/ bend the two little triangles that center the original aircleaner on the Rochester carb. Or you can find a filter housing that works for you. On my 70 SS I purchased the repo of the 70 SS Camaro dual snorkel air cleaner with painted lid. It also can be purchased with a chrome lid.
  21. Welcome to the club!! Looks like a great start for a father and sons project!
  22. cny first gen 71- that was the easiest job we did today. All the bolts came out except for one that needed a little persuasion. About 45min tops. 1970mcss- it is supposed to be Nevada silver with a black vynal top. Had a repaint many years ago with a slightly bluer tint to the silver. Rob Peters- we are still up in the air about going with the virus still going strong and possibly worse with all the unmasked protests. We are watching though.... Hopefully...
  23. Helloooo everyone! Update time. Lolol As some of you know, my son now has his own 71 Monte that we did a bunch of stuff to. Well it's done, for now. Now it's "Barn Finds" turn. We installed rally wheels with bfg tires that were in stock from my brothers 71 SS. Changed the valve cover gaskets with ones from my 70 SS build. Installed the F41 upper and lower control arms and sway bar that we installed new bushings into. Then we finally tackled the exhaust system that also was "in stock" from a parts car with the GM exhaust tips that have been "in the family" for at least 20 yrs and are weathered accordingly.
  24. Lol. Doesn't NY have child labor laws??? Lololol Serious though, nice job they did and I hear ya about not fitting back there.
