  1. Your 72' came with standard ignition (points) so in order to supply the coil its proper voltage GM decided to use a ballast wire. The wire contained in the primary ignition circuit designed to reduce wear on ignition components. Most coils of the time required an external ballast wire or resistor. With regards to your new install it may require full voltage to the system, instead of the voltage drop in your current system. Make sense?
  2. Nice work! She's gleaming in the posted pictures no doubt that baby is gorgeous in person. Love the progress the color looks fantastic. What's in store as a theme? Stock.. Pro-touring? That color is fat..And it would glow in any clothing.
  3. Cool, though I can't make heads or tails out of the plans posted on the wall.
  4. Looks great! Nice and clean, the 600 simoleons saved a definite plus. I'm soon to tackle a similar install, although I must say it's not as easy as it once were. It takes me a couple of days to recover from the aches and pains, as well as the onset of vertigo symptoms I been dealing with.
  5. Beautiful color, and I must agree with the shenanigans above, the best year indeed.
  6. Redoing the top end and not doing anything to the bottom end is a big rookie mistake. The bottom end is sure to follow. “There’s never enough time to do it right, but there is always enough time to do it again" One of Murphy's laws.
  7. I'd would have to agree with Dennis, I have done three different sets. The parts place is the way to go, I had purchased a plastic Chevelle set which I ripped right out of there and replaced with Monte specific ones, they go on much easier, they're better looking, a lot heftier than the stock ones. A win win if you ask me. Now I might also mention a battery support bracket is essential.
  8. Edelbrock, their name is paramount when it comes to manifold technology. Also they stand behind their product.
  9. I received mine as well, it looks pretty good. I'm going to tackle the venture this weekend, dismantle, compare, clean, put back together and see the results. Thanks for sharing the contact, Mike.
  10. Great article, what a great tribute to your uncle. A neat way to eulogize him. The car on the other hand speaks for itself.
  11. Sounds like you're describing the vent plug. I can't see the attached picture clearly. Is it an electrical plug? Probably a th350c with lock-up converter?
  12. Definitely make sure the flex plate is not cracked, you know the usual spot.
  13. Is there a code stamped on the axle tube?
  14. I agree with Scott, my first thought would be, why get rid of it? Although if you're trying to clean it up just for aesthetics the brackets and cable is all I would do. Then what would you do with the choke plate as well as the fast idle cam?
  15. Sorry to hear about this, condolences to family and friends.
  16. It never fails, there's always something to slow the forward progress. I also agree with Larry, never seen that particular area. Usually doors are prone toward the bottom edge, specially with blocked weep holes.
  17. Well good thing it wasn't a wasted day. For me a couple cups of Jo, snacks and some eye candy and I'm set.
  18. Both the headliner and vinyl top for that price are indeed a great deal. As long they're as being professionally done. I also agree with Bruce's comment on the poor design, the general had a brain fart there, though I do believe some other GM cars came with weep holes and drain hoses in that area.
  19. Can't wait to see that bad boy. You know how we are.. pics and more pics. Good luck with the venture.
  20. The right stuff for me as well.
  21. Looking good! Definitely a piece that requires lots of detail, cause you'll be staring at it all the time.
  22. A voltage drop problem.. Ideally If memory serves me right, one of the things that I did to my daily driver (Betsy) was to upgrade on the size of wire, from what I believe was a 10AWG to a 6AWG, the wire that goes from the junction block near the battery to the junction on the fusible link near the voltage regulator, talk about changing the problem all together. I used to have issues with dimming lights when stepping on the brakes, and noticeable on the headlights as well as the dash-lights. It also fixed intermittent starting issues I used to have with it, I believe the engineers at GM had a brain fart along that junction. Not that it needs a 6 gauge wire, but it surely fixed everything in doing so. I never tried an #8 I just went for overkill from the get-go.
