  1. “It leaned inboard bad so I pouned on it with a sledge hammer and got it looking somewhat better.” This ⬆️ Is how I fix 90% of things that break in my house or on my vehicles. Always seems like a good idea at the time.
  2. Tail pipe. Rear end. Colonoscopy prep. That combines for a hat trick of mental images I care not to share. Stay close to the crapper, dude. Otherwise you run the risk of parts of your house resembling the speckled-painted trunk of your ‘71.
  3. Rob, I can sorta feel your pain. Years ago a friend bought an old farmhouse here in the city. Same thing… About 100 years old at the time, lathe and plaster and the insulation consisted of ancient shredded newspapers. We ripped it down to the framing after he found out the place was nothing more than a huge termite infestation. Not one square wall, not a single level floor etc. Im far from a handyman or tradesman... I was just the helper monkey for demo and humping the material out to the dumpsters. The Monte will be waiting for ya when the important [censored] is done... family first.
  4. You coulda killed two birds with one stone and used the Monte to haul the debris away. That’s what I would’ve done. Not. 🤣
  5. Welcome to the club, Kade! Great backstory to a great car. It’s nice to see cars that last long enough to be handed down through generations.
  6. Forgot to add pix of the fronts. I don’t have any pictures with the front tires off, but when I do the brakes I will take some pictures so you get a better idea of how they fit.
  7. The prior owner of my SS had his mechanic install QA1 coil overs at all four corners. I have the receipt which also lists two hours labor to dial it in “correctly”. She sits real pretty with no rubbing issues (on stock 15” rally wheels). These coil overs are their more expensive model as they allow multiple adjustments for compression AND rebound (21 increments each control rings a bell). I plan on playing with these settings when I start my vacation, but I don’t plan on adjusting the height at all; my only complaint is that she seems to ride just a tad too stiff. I’ll see what happy medium I can find without going too soft / causing contact with the bump stop. This said, I just discovered that the springs were rubbing through my rear brake lines on compression. The mechanic who installed them obviously didn’t notice this potential based on how much clearance there appeared to be when it was on the rack when he installed them… but it is obviously a whole different story when the car is on the ground under load. Visit QA1.net for some pretty detailed info on coil overs vs. traditional suspensions. I shared the brake line pix in another thread the other day. The other pix show how deceiving clearances can be. Hope this helps your decision.
  8. Damn. Horrible news. I can’t imagine losing both parents over such a short period of time. May God grant his family strength in this difficult time.

    New guy here

Welcome! Can’t go wrong with a silver car, especially when it’s a first gen Monte Carlo.
  10. Dtret makes a ton of sense. Buy a decent donor and you’ll surely be happy you did when you’re scrambling for a bolt or clip or... whatever, and you can pull it from the donor instead of trying to find it at the local parts store. These parts will fit without issues way before some remanufactured, made in China piece of garbage will. Happy hunting and keep us all posted with plenty of pictures.
  11. Great article, but I also take issue with the valuations as listed. Either way, it’s nice to see the recognition the cars are getting.
  12. Meant to say the hose that splits to both rear lines was toast.
  13. Car is in the shop to have the trans leaks addressed. The good news? I was able to grab pix of the numbers on the trans as well as the pad at the oil filter. Everything lines up as expected. The numbers on the trans look to be half-assed by whichever assembly line worker was tasked with stamping that day, but it’s confirmation nonetheless The bad news? The coil overs as installed by the previous owner’s mechanic had nearly rubbed through both rear brake lines. So custom bent lines it is, not to mention the hose on the passenger line was almost completely blocked/collapsed. Better than losing rear brakes on a road trip, I guess.
  14. Lube... lotsa lube. And then constant reminders so she never forgets what you’re capable of.
  15. Can’t wait to read the article. Kinda makes we wish I didn’t turn my SS into a low rider... ... KIDDING!!!!🤣
  16. Well that didn’t take long! Congrats! I see an Ill-Annoy plate on that Chevelle... keep me posted of any cruise nights and shows that you hear about. If logistics are good I’d love to participate. I’m S/W side of Chicago.
  17. My first car was a ‘67 Camaro that my dad bought for Mom used in ‘68. It was turquoise with a black vinyl top.... that is until Dad sent it to Earl Scheib in ‘75 or so for a repaint while Mom drove us kids down to Florida on a family trip. Not sure why, but Dad had it painted white and be got his full $29.95 worth... not only did they not remove the sill plates, there was even overspray on the corner of the rear seat on the drivers side. Mom drove their car until ‘78 when it was put in my grandfathers garage. My sister who is the oldest of us three had first crack at it and see, thankfully, wanted nothing to do with it. I was next in line and chomping at the bit to get their car in the summer of ‘87 when I was a ready to start senior year in high school. A few thousand dollars I had saved from little part-time jobs was quickly depleted: Dad and Uncle Ron (a Ford mechanic) pulled the motor and trans, disassembled the motor and sent it out to a machine shop while a coworker of my uncle rebuilt the PG in his garage. A few weeks later the block and all the new parts came back and I watched in amazement as my dad and uncle put that motor together in about two hours. I got to help spray paint the block, heads and water pump Chevy orange. I must’ve put 5000 miles on that car just driving around the neighborhood over the summer I turned 17. It was a daily driver for four years, Chicago winters and all. Good times. I wish I can go back to those times if even for a few days. Going to have to see if I can find some pictures of their car, will share them when I do.
  18. Too f%#$ing cool. Can I get this in a poster? That’d look waaayyyy cool in the garage.
  19. I ordered a set of seatbelts from them for my girl as a new interior is on tap over this coming winter. They arrived today and look absolutely stunning. That said, they actually came from a third-party vendor/supplier thru SS396. Now don’t even get me started on OPG... The new center counsel I ordered also arrived today, but was damaged (see pictures) and they sent the wrong colored rearview mirror kit (gray surround when I specified black). Anyway, it’s not like I need these things right away, so hopefully everything else arrives in good shape.
  20. • Sit at the front of the bus, you’ll get there sooner • The difference between a woman in church and a woman in a bathtub? The woman in church has hope in her soul • Confucius say: “ Man who goes to bed with itchy butt wakes up with stinky finger“ • Confucius also say: “Man who stands on toilet is high on pot“ It’s been a long day, that’s all I got...
  21. I looked at my POP again to compare it against what you decoded. My POP is stamped with the “C” for Carter carb while I’m pretty sure the (supposedly) original carb that came with my Monte is a Rochester (see attached photo). I believe that this is the original carb as the numbers match as original on other parts (intake manifold and distributor) that came with my girl. Perhaps the POP wasn’t stamped correctly (like my engine build date: it shows 1222 on the block, but 1227 on the POP)? Regardless, everything else lines up as it should, so I’m really not all that concerned.
  22. Here ya go, Aaron. I hope it helps your project
  23. Very nice!! Ssooooooooo looking forward to getting to some local shows this summer with my girl.
  24. Since we’re showing off our FGMCC plates...
