  1. Dtret makes a ton of sense. Buy a decent donor and you’ll surely be happy you did when you’re scrambling for a bolt or clip or... whatever, and you can pull it from the donor instead of trying to find it at the local parts store. These parts will fit without issues way before some remanufactured, made in China piece of garbage will. Happy hunting and keep us all posted with plenty of pictures.
  2. Great article, but I also take issue with the valuations as listed. Either way, it’s nice to see the recognition the cars are getting.
  3. Meant to say the hose that splits to both rear lines was toast.
  4. Car is in the shop to have the trans leaks addressed. The good news? I was able to grab pix of the numbers on the trans as well as the pad at the oil filter. Everything lines up as expected. The numbers on the trans look to be half-assed by whichever assembly line worker was tasked with stamping that day, but it’s confirmation nonetheless The bad news? The coil overs as installed by the previous owner’s mechanic had nearly rubbed through both rear brake lines. So custom bent lines it is, not to mention the hose on the passenger line was almost completely blocked/collapsed. Better than losing rear brakes on a road trip, I guess.
  5. Lube... lotsa lube. And then constant reminders so she never forgets what you’re capable of.
  6. Can’t wait to read the article. Kinda makes we wish I didn’t turn my SS into a low rider... ... KIDDING!!!!🤣
  7. Well that didn’t take long! Congrats! I see an Ill-Annoy plate on that Chevelle... keep me posted of any cruise nights and shows that you hear about. If logistics are good I’d love to participate. I’m S/W side of Chicago.
  8. My first car was a ‘67 Camaro that my dad bought for Mom used in ‘68. It was turquoise with a black vinyl top.... that is until Dad sent it to Earl Scheib in ‘75 or so for a repaint while Mom drove us kids down to Florida on a family trip. Not sure why, but Dad had it painted white and be got his full $29.95 worth... not only did they not remove the sill plates, there was even overspray on the corner of the rear seat on the drivers side. Mom drove their car until ‘78 when it was put in my grandfathers garage. My sister who is the oldest of us three had first crack at it and see, thankfully, wanted nothing to do with it. I was next in line and chomping at the bit to get their car in the summer of ‘87 when I was a ready to start senior year in high school. A few thousand dollars I had saved from little part-time jobs was quickly depleted: Dad and Uncle Ron (a Ford mechanic) pulled the motor and trans, disassembled the motor and sent it out to a machine shop while a coworker of my uncle rebuilt the PG in his garage. A few weeks later the block and all the new parts came back and I watched in amazement as my dad and uncle put that motor together in about two hours. I got to help spray paint the block, heads and water pump Chevy orange. I must’ve put 5000 miles on that car just driving around the neighborhood over the summer I turned 17. It was a daily driver for four years, Chicago winters and all. Good times. I wish I can go back to those times if even for a few days. Going to have to see if I can find some pictures of their car, will share them when I do.
  9. Too f%#$ing cool. Can I get this in a poster? That’d look waaayyyy cool in the garage.
  10. I ordered a set of seatbelts from them for my girl as a new interior is on tap over this coming winter. They arrived today and look absolutely stunning. That said, they actually came from a third-party vendor/supplier thru SS396. Now don’t even get me started on OPG... The new center counsel I ordered also arrived today, but was damaged (see pictures) and they sent the wrong colored rearview mirror kit (gray surround when I specified black). Anyway, it’s not like I need these things right away, so hopefully everything else arrives in good shape.
  11. • Sit at the front of the bus, you’ll get there sooner • The difference between a woman in church and a woman in a bathtub? The woman in church has hope in her soul • Confucius say: “ Man who goes to bed with itchy butt wakes up with stinky finger“ • Confucius also say: “Man who stands on toilet is high on pot“ It’s been a long day, that’s all I got...
  12. I looked at my POP again to compare it against what you decoded. My POP is stamped with the “C” for Carter carb while I’m pretty sure the (supposedly) original carb that came with my Monte is a Rochester (see attached photo). I believe that this is the original carb as the numbers match as original on other parts (intake manifold and distributor) that came with my girl. Perhaps the POP wasn’t stamped correctly (like my engine build date: it shows 1222 on the block, but 1227 on the POP)? Regardless, everything else lines up as it should, so I’m really not all that concerned.
  13. Here ya go, Aaron. I hope it helps your project
  14. Very nice!! Ssooooooooo looking forward to getting to some local shows this summer with my girl.
  15. Since we’re showing off our FGMCC plates...
  16. Damn! Let’s hope he was just BS’ing you and that the car is still out there somewhere. While the hunt and the chase to track these girls down can be both fun and exhilarating, it obviously can also be infuriating. Hell, I was only 15 when you sold that car; I can only imagine what might have happened over the 35 years since. Regardless ...if you guys develop any new leads, please let me know and I’ll have my bud try again.
  17. Well done Bill!! You didn’t waste any time. I really dig that color, briefly entertained looking at another ‘70 SS in the same green... need that now like I need a hole in my head. The fam looks like they’re also enjoying Dads new car! More pics when you get the time. Congrats again!!
  18. Welcome back, Bill. Hopefully you locate exactly what you’re looking for. If you hook your baby soon, there’s a handful of us not too far from you... perhaps a Chicago/surrounding suburbs FGMC Mini Meet over the summer?
  19. Ok, am I the only one who immediately thought of Leslie Nielsen’s exchange with Priscilla Presley in Naked Gun? Back on point, beautiful trio you’ve got there, Beaver! How is your ‘71 lowered? Did you cut the OE coils or do you have adjustable coil overs? Asking because mine arrived with the latter and I’ll be experimenting with dialing them in to my preference sometime soon (ride is a little harsh on some of these Chicago streets). Welcome to the boards… I’ve only been here a short time myself, but there is definitely a ton of knowledge and good people populating the site
  20. Agreed. The 2.8’s had a 0-60 time of a week to 10 days. And 1/4 mile times? Let’s just say that erosion is quicker.
  21. So... the two seals that screw below the windows? Does this result in baby seals? Yeah, it’s my day off and the Old Fashioned’s are going down smoothly.
  22. I had the same pressurized gas cap problem as my tank isn’t vented. The tank would actually contract with a loud “thunk” as I removed the cap after driving, especially when there was only a little gas (more vapor) in it. I ordered and installed a “vented” cap and still had the same issues I fixed this problem by drilling six 1/16” holes in the cap. Now when I back into the garage and turn the car off I can hear the cap hissing. Problem solved, just don’t squat down by the rear plate with a lit cigarette in your mouth to check your handy work.
  23. McCall72 45 Posted 1 hour ago Interesting that Gen X favors the Monte over the Chevelle. I certainly fit into that category! Ditto. Me and my ‘70 SS were born the same year. I’ve always loved Chevelles and Camaros (my first ride at 16 was a ‘67 Camaro with a 327 and PG)... but “everyone” has one of those cars. Give me ANY first generation MC over those other Bow Ties anyway.
  24. Damn! 605 PFT @ 4200 and 606 HP @ 6000. Very well done. Can’t wait to see video of that motor running.
