Just checked and replaced the main feed wire to my distributor... same results

tried it lol

Well, I've drained 5 gallons of gas out of it to test it... and I can barely smell it... that's normally a sign of bad gas right?

I checked filters and lines all check out great... unfortunately at this point... I wish it was just that lol I'm going to look at a carb rebuild kit for that edelbrock but until then, anymore ideas would be great smile

update. On a whim I went nuts and hunted down a non-existant TCS solenoid... not it apparently lol

but the car is now doing this nutty rpm bouncing in park... it's progressing... I feel it's infected with a car disease! I've called several doctors and they won't prescribe any pain killers for me now lol

That looks like an electrical issue.

I'm curious: does the radio cut in/out as this is happening? You might want to try hooking a test light to your IGN terminal on the fuse block and see if it blinks when the engine acts up. Even better might be to run the test light from the power lead where it hooks to the distributor...just to make sure you have a steady current supplying the distributor. If that checks out ok, then you can figure the problem is something inside the distribitor itself.

In the old days with a point-type distributor, the bouncing tach needle was an indication that your distributor shaft bushings were bad and allowing the shaft to wobble. HEI is pretty tollerant of shaft wobble though, because it uses a magnetic pickup instead of points, but it's still worth checking to see if the rotor has any side-to-side slop in it.

UPDATE~ OH SUCH A GREAT UPDATE!

I found the devilish culprit! I said I checked the distributor hot wire... well I did but I didn't check the wire it was tapped into... Turns out the wire it was on was breaking down... worthless 16ga wires lol anyways. I wired my distributor to a 12ga wire in the ignition. so now I have 14/12ga wires that should not be breaking down.

OH HAPPY DAY!
