  1. Past hour
  2. I've seen alcohol fueled Montes before.... But ,isn't all that sugar in the rum hard on the spark plugs ???
  3. We got together at someone's garage, pulled out the tools...... And beers, and usually had the problem solved around 2 a.m. Or when that "somebody's" wife kicked us all out.. LOL
  4. Today
  5. To add to what Joe said, in 1972 only 1268 Monte’s had the 454 engine. Out of the 1268 nobody knows how many of them had the Custom package (equivalent to the 70-71 SS package, plus a few other things ). So it’s a pretty rare car. Technically the rarest automatic Monte built. The lower numbers were part of the emission changes that were coming. But thankfully there are some in the group that have them.
  6. Monte is beautiful also the Volvo is cool too. I was parked with one at a cruise in last week, this is us leaving the show. Car belongs to another members father in law he has 2 of them.
  7. Yes, for the 70-71 years, the only way to get a 454 was if the car was a 'SS454'. As we know, there was no SS for 1972, only the 'Custom' model, though that could be had with any available engine/trans combination, including 454.
  8. Steve, A 72 Monte that came from the factory with a 454 engine. The 'W' is part of the VIN, as the engine designation code.
  9. Question. i'm not familiar with "W CODE" could someone educate me on this. I promise i'll learn it and be proficient in First Gen Monte Carlo !!!!!!
  10. absolutely GORGEOUS Dennis....

    Well said Mark!!!
  12. AND YEAH If I had only known the future there would be many cars not sold or traded or just plain run to the ground ie"alley banged" ! in my barn. 🙁
  13. I never liked the solid lifter adjustment hassle back in the day either, points, plugs and wires every year also. good old REAL TUNE UP!!! But wouldn't change the knowledge of growing up and being a mechanic in what I'm called and calling the grey hair days 🙂
  14. An historical vehicle parked in front of an historical landmark. Perfect!
  15. i bought my monte when i was 17 ,toms corvette was a 70 with 350 4 speed 350 hp, solid lifters ,he didnt like to adjust the lifters everytime he changed the oil,his corvette recently sold for 150k,he was starting a family, thats why i dont have power windows ,but he did check the custom option on the order sheet,
  16. Steven, your '70 SS is absolutely gorgeous!! I don't recall seeing that color combo before but it is a winner! Those wheels look great and the velour interior looks super comfortable, too. Just my opinion, of course, but I don't think that much rake is very fitting for such an elegant and sophisticated vehicle as your Monte. However, unless you are willing to do some serious looking and/or wrenching, you may never come up with the original front springs to replace those that have been cut. You may have a Build Sheet to confirm which (of 10 possible) front springs were assembled with your car at the factory but it was almost certainly the heaviest GQ spring. That spring featured a free height of 18.13" (giving a pre-load of 1760 lbs per spring) and a deflection rate of 275 lbs/in. One of the closest (and most popular) aftermarket springs you can get to replace it is the Moog 6330. It has a slightly lower pre-load around 1700 lbs but a slightly higher deflection rate around 295 lbs/in. When I rebuilt the front suspension of my '70 SS (with similar options as yours), I used the Moog 6330 and still got a very slight rake (see photo) so you may want to look at other possibilities if you decide to restore the frontend height. Good luck.
  17. Took care of the order this morning - Classic Industries! Now I will have to get the lock ring depressor tool or rent one from AutoZone or another store. Thanks,Matt
  18. Ain’t that the truth. The chevelle and the 72 ended up back in the other drive under covers.
  19. You have less time to drive any of them now then you had last year!! lol

  21. I'd sell my LT 1 To buy that MC too, If I had one. Sounds like a fantastic Monte Carlo !. Got my first one when I was 19. I call her sin city. 70 SS. needs a few things, but when I saw her. I was forever smitten. I believe I have a First Gen incurable disease. If they make a vaccine I'm not going to take it🙂!

  23. Last post on the this was November of 22. It does still exist. lol. Thursday a good customer of mine needed a couple cans of r12 so I delivered it to him in my 71. First movement since August. Ran and drove outstanding. I miss driving it. But show season is upon us and I should be able to get 100 miles this year. lol.
