  2. Back in September of 2022 I attended a big show out here in So Cal that I try to get to every year. Cruisin for a Cure. A charity for prostate cancer awareness. My wife normally comes with me but she couldn’t. Because they offer free PSA screenings she made me promise to get screened this time. A first for me. About a week later I got a call from a doctor saying my numbers were high and that I should see my doctor ASAP. A needle biopsy confirmed I had prostate cancer. Luckily we got it early. After a little research I chose the 28 day regiment of radiation treatment at City of Hope of which I completed in early 23. Because of the sayings “you only live once” and “you can’t take it with you” I dipped into my retirement, with my wife’s blessing, and started a 6 month search to find an exact replacement for my first car. The 71 first gen I have now. My PSA numbers now are barely detectable and I feel great. I have my wife, City of Hope and my love for classic cars for quite possibly saving my life. Unfortunately my wife isn’t buying into my reasoning that because classic cars may have played a small part in saving my life, I should get some more. My point is that I know there are quite a few club members in my age group. If you haven’t had a PSA screening, get one. It could save by your life. By the way, I went to the 2023 show and thanked the people in the screening room for saving my life.

  5. Strange , my insurance co says it’s no longer necessary to get that test at my age. Of course they would say that. Thanks for reminding me, I get my doc to do the blood test anyway. Glad you found it soon enough.. Ron…

  7. Muncie, four speed do the four bolts on the front bearing cover have lock washers, star lock washers or locking tabs. Pictures of Muncie 4 spd on eBay show locking tabs for those bolts. A couple of rebuilt ones have star washers. The two bottom bolts on mine were hitting the gear on the counter shaft. If someone has an answer, let me know. Thanks. Someone evidently did not have the proper tool for the input bearing retainer nut. John S

  8. I had some stainless trim from the interior 1/4 panels from a deluxe interior 69 Camaro that I cut and put in the recessed portion of my armrest bases. I later found that OPGI has a listing for a trim that they claim was used on some Monte Carlos. I’m satisfied with what I came up with, so I’m not going to change it. It is similar to the trim on the sides of my console. Besides it’s probably another backorder item with them anyway. I’ve never seen any trim on the bases before. Does anyone have it? Was it part of a special trim option?

  9. I found on eBay the lock plates from 5speeds.com. I bought them wait for them to be delivered and then install them. A number of pictures I’ve seen of Muncie 4 speeds on eBay had the lock plates on so that’s what I’m going to put on. Thanks for your help. For now I’m going to leave the retainer nut alone it looks like they’ve staked it in place and I don’t want to damage the threads. John S

  10. A couple of the muncie rebuild places shows this bolt kit. Uses locking tabs. Seems to be the most popular choice. https://www.5speeds.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=199 https://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/item/3864782/9454026.htm https://www.musclecarcentral.com/1966-1972-Muncie-4-Speed-Transmission-Front-Bear-p/tra-870.htm I looked at the ones I have in stock, of the 4 Muncies down in the basement, one of the 4 has the lock plates. One has lock washers, another has nothing (just 4 bolts), and the other is an empty 'dummy' trans used for fitment, but doesn't have anything on the front bearing retainer. They were all rebuilt from a gentleman that was very prominent with the Muncies. We were lucky enough that he was fairly local to us and could just run out there when I blew another one up. He has since passed away.

  13. The 71 was missing the load leveler compressor brackets when I got the car, but thanks to DPJ fabrication in Missouri I now have and have installed the correct compressor brackets.. DPJ fabricator is owned by one of our FGMCCs members “ Dan Janes “.. Aka, “ overdrive”.. on the club site… Thanks Dan for your commitment to the FGMCC and first gen Monte Carlo’s .. Ron…

  16. Would have never noticed had I not read your post. My ‘70 did NOT have them from the factory. The ones I bought (from OPGI, if memory serves me correctly) when I redid the interior have the trim. Before and after pix…
