  1. I did the same thing to "Barn Find", my 71 402 Monte that was off the road for over 34 years. Check out the thread" awake after 34 yr slumber. With the exhaust manifolds off it's easier to r/r the engine mounts. I used a ex and a floor jack under the sump of the oil pan. Do one side at a time. Should go smoothly.
  2. Don't forget the Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Buick A-body upholstery. They all used the same seat frames.
  3. Quick answer, yes they are. Just that the Monte Carlo didn't come from the factory with the chrome valve covers on the 402s or the 454s.

    Had to laugh

Congrats to Karen! She's a keeper!
  5. Sport mirror or chrome mirror. They are the same mirrors for 70-72 Chevelle's. The aftermarket makes them.
  6. Well, it's a 70 Flint built car. Meaning, NO build sheet. The last 6 of the vin seems to be early in the production run, so it may be possible the story is correct.
  7. With the key turned forward check for voltage to the coil. Not while cranking, you know you have it then.
  8. Looks and sounds great Aaron!!
  9. Both work on each other. Usually though the big block and high performance small blocks had the "canister" type pumps. The lower body of the pump is bigger. What is done to your 454 and what is it doing that you feel it's pump related?

Welcome Leo! You have done a lot of work. Looks gooooood! I believe grandpa would be proud. We love pics and questions. Show and ask away!
  12. Looks great Aaron! Fingers crossed for the first start up.
  13. There should be a "hook" on the spring at the opposite end of the emblem. The hook hooks onto the lower part of the main body of the hood spear. It appears that the one the dealer gave you is broken on the lower end.
  14. Yeah, that's oil fouled. You mention smoke on start up. I would say it's most likely bad valve seals. I would look at them first.
  15. Here is a pic of the firewall for a non-A/C car and the inner and outer heater only set up.
  16. Thank you for the story behind the accident. I'm glad both the driver and passenger are ok. Any decisions on the car itself?
  17. Arron, on Barn Find I used a pertronix distributor, their coil and wires that Kevin donated, that were "in stock" for 10 yrs prior. All look stock.
  18. Not if you go with the Detroit trutrac. No posi additive needed.
  19. Congratulations Aaron! An absolutely beautiful representation of a first gen!!
  20. Gears, posi unit, install kit with bearings, differential fluid, posi additive (if not using a trutrac) ,money, someone to set it all up correctly.
  21. The aftermarket do not fit well. Exactly what you described. The only other alternative is NOS, which can be expensive, but in this case, worth it or a good used set.
  22. Was on Barn Find. Not anymore. Don't remember with Big Red. Is on Covid, a 350 trans car and is on Kevin's 71 SS. And just checked my pics, my 71 402 4speed does not have it. I don't believe any 4speed Monte Carlo has one.
  23. Rear control arms are wayyyy easier than the front to do.
