  1. Check the choke adjustment. May be the cause of both your issues. Also were the secondary air flaps opening?
  2. A black plate is between the P-R-N-D lens and lamp housing.
  3. Happy Birthday Aaron! Awesome cake!!!!
  4. The governor will have it shift 1-2. Why no 2-3? Let's see what he says and finds.
  5. The other cable is for a 700r4 or 200r4. Those overdrive transmissions need the tv cable to be adjusted correctly or the trans will internally burn up. Cook the clutches. Tv- throttle valve. It controls the shifting of the trans. This is not the case with the th350.
  6. The story makes sense Mike. I would install it and see what happens. If it's not crazy on the compression it most likely would run good. Big radiator and good water pump.
  7. The cable has NOTHING to do with the transmission shifting into 3rd gear. You can disconnect it and drive years without issues and it will still shift into all gears. The cable is for the "kick down/passing gear" mode. Check to make sure you have vacuum going to the modulator and that it is sufficient. Start there.
  8. Understand the numbers matching aspect and the rebuild. How bad was it that it had to go .070 overbore? What did the engine rebuilder at the time say about that?
  9. I agree with Kevin and Dtret. Both statements are true. Personally, I would look elsewhere. 396/402 engines seem to be around for sale. Some nice ones also. And since they are considered "undesirable" by the bigger cube people, they can be had relatively cheap compared to a 454.
  10. Welcome to the madness Larry! More pics! Lol
  11. The jeep box has metric fittings. You either need metric lines with the metric "nut" on the back of the p/s pump or adapters. Google the parts. We installed a 83-88 Monte Carlo SS quick ratio box into my son's 69 GTO. Great upgrade! You also need a conversion rag joint if I remember correctly.
  12. If you are going numbers correct, there is also a build date on the distributor housing along with the part number. The date has to be within 6months of your cars build date.
  13. If CPS or CRS they decode to LS-6. 454 450hp. Very doubtful, but possible. Let's see..... Warranty replacements had CE and that's all. No 3rd letter. Are you sure it's a factory stamp? Take a pic?
  14. Don't see any CF's let alone CFS for a big block. Can you get the casting number off the back of the engine, below the distributor before the trans.?
  15. NO HEI in the 70 Monte Carlos. Like stated by others it didn't come out, into production till 74-75.
  16. He added the 70s-3,823 and the 71s- 1,919.
  17. So far l must agree with your theory and findings. This would be great to find out for the 71 Baltimore SS cars.
  18. Look great! Depends on what backspacing you got.
  19. Correct! Barn find is a 402 auto with only B. Barn find was built Sept 70 for 71 and my 70 SS was built Sept 69 for 70, Flint car though. O1C- 3rd week January 71 is the build date of our 71 402 4 speed Monte Carlo. It also only has a B. The numbers matching 402 was assembled in August of 70. Figure it's a strike delayed car.
  20. Jerry, is your 71 an SS? This is what Aaron is trying to figure out. IF the Baltimore built SS has the BF. All others just the B.
  21. Congratulations on your purchase!!! Love the pics! Looks beautiful!!!! Lots of luck with it!!!!
  22. Welcome to the club Larry! Nice 72! More pics! Lol
