  1. My brother purchased one just recently. I believe a few companies carry the lower bowl for a tilt column. Try Ground up, The Parts Place for starters.
  2. Come to think of it, my 71 402 a/c "barn find" is like that also. Did some checking, my 70 SS has it right in the center of the wire gutter.
  3. Most topics have been discussed many times over in their respective areas, but you are right. Lol And for the record, my 70 SS has a black column but has a black interior. My brother's blue 71 SS has a black column with a blue interior but the question was about 70 SS's.
  4. My son's 71 non A/C Monte is exact to yours stangba
  5. Hi Reginald. They make what you are looking for for a tilt column but not that I have seen for a non tilt. You either have to cut it off and fill it like you stated or find another floor shift column. Any gm a-body column will fit from 69-72. Minor differences/ design in turn signal levers and hazzard buttons. I would also swap over your lower ignition switch and turn signal switch.
  6. The open differential, aka "one wheel peel" was standard on all Monte Carlo models. The "posi" G80 was an option on all Monte Carlo models. Like stated though, the 2.56 rear ratio in 70 was the only ratio. In 71 the 3.31 was offered. Both years could be ordered with the optional posi. Otherwise it would have the standard open differential.
  7. Congrats!!! Looks great in the video!
  8. Yes, was on rock auto. Hence the question. Lol. It cost you more than 13 a caliper but still beats a rebuilt or even new caliper by a ton! I have been pondering on which way to go. With yours looking as good as they do, I believe you convinced me into rebuilding, restoring a few sets of calipers I have "in stock" lol
  9. Where did you get the parts to rebuild the calipers for $13.00 apiece? That's with new pistons?
  10. Great job! Looks fantastic! Is the piston new? Did you get a complete rebuild kit?
  11. I went with an optima battery in my 70 SS. I used the top terminals and I believe 1gauge wire. 2x as thick as stock.
  12. Depends on what you are looking to do with the car. If going for a totally stock/factory look then side terminal. IMO

    Cam question

Nice dailys! Like the 63 bonnie. My brother just acquired this from the original owner who is 91 and who lived on his block all 91yrs.
  14. You are correct that the Chevelle, Monte Carlo parts are the same. So are any non convertible GM a-bodys from 68-72. ir cutlass, lemans, 442, gto, skylark,GS and the such. I would try joevega, azchevies he usually has a few clean cut out examples.
  15. Ummmm. Silly question, what does it matter how the rear was "born"? You obviously have to rebuild it the way you want. Unless you are looking for a numbers correct rear for your car will the numbers matter. Just asking.... Bottom line is that it is a 12 bolt.
  16. Crank, ask for the numbers and letters off of the left axle tube. All others are casting numbers.
  17. Way, way, way too much to list for all 5 Monte Carlos in our fleet. Lol
  18. My 71 402 has a side terminal battery and cables.
  19. Sweet! You're welcome! That's what we are here for... To help one another.
  20. Love the ultra flows! Good sound at idle, a little louder getting on it and quiet in the interior! Big Red, my 70 SS has a 496 and the 3 inch ultra flows. Luv em!
  21. The one on my original Monte, many, many ,many years ago was located under the dash, to the left of the steering column but above and to the right of the emergency brake release handle. I'm sure someone may be able to take a pic of theirs and post it for you.
  22. Ez pz. You will need a very skinny, small screwdriver or even a paperclip. Locate the terminal to be removed. Insert the screwdriver into the terminal slot to bend the locking tab down to remove. Remove terminal, bend the lock back up and your ready to reinstall. Many places sell specialized terminal removal tools. Here are a few pics to hopefully help you out.
  23. I can't attest to how the headers are. The exhaust on the other hand I can. The pipes are good. Like any out of the box exhaust systems some "fitting" is required. Both my son's Monte and my "barn find" have reused flowmaster systems on them. His retains the flowmaster mufflers and I went with the dynomax ultra flows. Both kits are of the 2 1/2 inch variety. His is hooked up to headers while mine is to the factory exhaust manifolds. I do recommend getting a factory style exhaust hanger kit. The one from pypes is actually very good. Will fit 2 1/2-3 inch systems. The ground up kit is also very good and will also fit both size exhaust systems only that ground up has a few different style tailpipe hangers which is a nice option. Hope this helps.
  24. What is the issue? The Monte Carlo came with both top terminal and a side terminal battery options. Big block or small block. The battery cables for a Monte Carlo are longer than the other a-bodys gm made. My 70 SS I made my own cables. Thicker gauge wires. Top post. My 71 402 "barn find" has a side terminal battery. Those I ordered from the parts place and are the M&H brand cables. Fit real well.
  25. YAYAYAY! Sweet! Glad that was the issue!! Always happy to help. That's what we are here for.
