I think the steering column has to drop down but doesn't have to be removed. Never took mine out to add Cruise Lever/wiring. Doug

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?
72-CLASSIC_RIDE replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Installed my LED Tail Lights today and after rotating one of the 3 wire sockets 180 degrees, they worked! Stopped there until I got a lighter to finish the shrink tubing. I'll do that tomorrow and install the tail lamp housing & lens. Double check it and then move on to the next project (yet determined). Doug -
Hi Scott, I put in an OEM Cruise Control a few years back. Things to consider: 1) Take good detailed pic's of Cruise Control and Servo under hood, noting vacuum hoses routing for future reference (before you remove it). 2) If you have the original plastic inner fender, there will be dimples for placement. 3) The 2 speedo cables (to speedometer & other to tranny) may or may not be long enough. If you have to remove Instrument Speedo Cable from speedometer, tricky getting to cable. Not much room......... 4) Will have to get into steering column for Cruise Lever & routing the power wire. 5) Not sure what your using for a Carb, but if not OEM, you will Likely need adapters to make the connections. That pretty much sums it up if you have all the components. Just take your time & do as much research as you need. Doug

So, I've been trying to find these barrel clips as to the size I need. I can guesstimate but unsure if will work. Anyone have a dimension or a P/N to confirm size? Doug

Hey all. Took the Monte out today and cleaned her up. In the process I found one of the script emblems on the Sail Panel is basically just sitting in location with only one nut but isn't even secured to that one nut. So any ideas on what I can use as a replacement to secure these? Anyone else experience this? Thanx for your thoughts................ Doug .

The Trunk Light was an option you could add or was a part of the 72 Custom Package. The pic shows location of bulb & wiring running from L.H Trunk Lid support. You can see the wire where it comes off the L/H Trunk Hinge arm into the Trunk Lid. I can't say if a new one (Kit) is purchable but should be able to locate what you may need without a whole lot of searching. The build sheet would say if was included. Doug

I bought 3 of them but for the life of me can't remember from who (They are a member). But here is a pic with dimensions that may aid in finding something that may work in place of. Doug

They may call it chrome paint, but it's really not. However, to color those with whatever he chooses to use is a good idea unless replacing them with the aftermarket ones sold. There are a few interior spray paints that will fit your bill for a finish you want. I bought (Name - OEM) Spray Paint when I touch up my interior which is vinyl. Couldn't see any difference when done. Doug

Probably doesn't help you as these are from a 72 402 BB car. But figured it couldn't hurt, soooooooooooooooo, check em out........ Doug

Hey Larry, if your referring to the lock mechanism, open glove box & on r/h side, inside of glove box door on lock mechanism, there is a hole in mechanism that you push a pin into at each tumbler, as you push pin, pull mechanism until it stops and go to the next tumbler with pin again and repeat until mechanism pulls free. Keep an eye on the tumblers to make sure (NONE) fall out of mechanism. I did rework mine a few years back & have pic's but can't find at the moment. Doug

Use your search function of your ISP. Simply type in 72 Monte Carlo Front Grill for sale. You should get some hits as a starting point. Finding a good core can be hard to find for a reasonable price and you should view it thoroughly before purchase. I remember someone saying there is a Reconditioner who specializes in restorations but can't remember what they are called but believe they were in South East United States. Someone will chime in I'm sure' Be prepared to spend a few coins on a (Good Core) and then be prepared to pay again depending on how much work Grill needs per your preferences. Doug.

What might this car be worth?
72-CLASSIC_RIDE replied to LS65Speed's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
When I installed the 402 BB in my car I also added Doug Thorley Long Tube Ceramic coated headers. 1st, the ceramic coating does keep the tubes slightly cooler and (knock on wood), I have had to but once tighten my header manifold bolts early on with header now on car since Jan. 2010. Even so, I had heat sink issues when starting hot. I purchased a heat shield for between Starter & Headers which seemed to help some. I also replaced factory HD Radiator with an Aluminum one. Still had intermittent hard starts. The real fix in my mind was replacing the Ground Cable Lead at Battery with a more robust Eyelet type fastener. I was told that that cable was not big enough to transfer the needed voltage to the Starter, thus the need for a more heavy duty application. That was 4 years ago and have had no issues since. PS - I did also replace Starter with a New AC Delco Heavy Duty Starter in the mix before I had Battery Ground Cable changed. It may have been a combination of all these fixes that ultimately solved my heat sink problem. It was a puzzler for a couple years though. I would not discount Headers as an alternative based on the heat sink. Took some reading and some time for me to decide on Thorley brand and happy I did. No alterations required for fitment. Doug -

Fuel line routing from Pump to Carb Question
72-CLASSIC_RIDE replied to 1970mcss's topic in Engine Tech
I don't remember having to Larry. When I brought it up through, it was pretty much a straight shot. I think any adjustment if made was done at the bottom for alignment. Doug -
Fuel line routing from Pump to Carb Question
72-CLASSIC_RIDE replied to 1970mcss's topic in Engine Tech
Here is how I did mine from rubber to steel from Fuel Pump to Carb on a 402 BB. I went between Alternator & Water Pump in my routing. Of course I fashioned the Hard Plumbing myself and is comparable to original routing if that's what your asking.. Doug -
72' Monte blower motor inop?
72-CLASSIC_RIDE replied to Wv Wild 72 Monte's topic in Restorers - Archive
On my 72, the blue area circled in pic is my high speed blower motor relay. I believe all 1st Gens with A/C were located same place. Doug -
My experience with rebuilt A/C Compressors (for our cars) has not been good. I have replaced A/C Compressor twice because they leaked thru the seals both times. I ended up spending the money and purchased a new (OEM) Compressor via my A/C mechanic and no issues. If I can find the info, I will advise on a rebuilder who seemed to have very good success rebuilding OEM Compressors. My memory seems to evade me with increase in age.................. Doug
