I remember a story of an engine blowing up and the cause was blasting media left in the intake manifold. Be careful!

I just checked and my clock is off (fast) by 1 hour today. This spring it was off 1 hour also but it was slow. 😁. (Sorry, I had to)

FYI. One time I had a bad dist cap with a carbon arc inside causing a miss and one other time a bad spark plug wire also caused a miss. One time the engine ran bad after I power washed the engine. I brought it home and blew out the dist cap with air and it was OK then. Don't remember for sure if the idle was rough when these things happened. I also have had several vacuum leaks (over the 51 years) that did cause a rough idle. Good luck!

Front End Friday! This 1963 Triumph TR-3B has been in by family since 1967 when my older brother bought it. Was just restored and is perfect. (Yes, I know it isn't a Monte Carlo)

Sensor on head - Passenger side (what is it)

When I added an entire dash gauge cluster, from a 71 with the gauge package, and all the wiring, to my NON gauge package 71, there was a wire / sending unit on the right head of the donor vehicle. I believed it was for the TSC system and since I had removed it a week after I purchased my new Monte, I just never transferred it to my car. WOW, that was 1985! -
Factory style rear swaybar.. is it worth it?
stangeba replied to Steve G's topic in Brakes and Suspension Tech
I added one years ago and did NOT box the frame, just used short bolts. 15+ years later I had the frame boxed but there was no damage using only the inside part of the arm vs a long bolt through both sides and added metal. -
Radiator overflow tank.

I worked at a FORD dealership 1972 - 1981 and did many "RECALLS". Pinto, we added a longer fuel fill tube and if the area around the rear 1/4 panel were the fill tube attached, was rusted out, we added a "RING" to that area. It looked like crap. Good times! (NOT) -
Radiator overflow tank.

$$$$ My guess is that it was not a $$$ required emission related item so it was not used. Later when it was required, it was added. Just think how much the auto industry saved by not having to add an overflow tank on all those vehicles! -
Gas tank - Sloshing. anyone have one with baffles?
stangeba replied to snomobeelr's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
What year is your monte? The inside of the cap looks a bit different to me. The fuel is leaking out from the cap area, correct? Try a different cap?? Here is mine and yours together. -

flasher relay or bulb socket? Hazard button?
stangeba replied to Crom Cruach's topic in Electrical Tech
Here is my 71, No A/C Monte fuse block. The FLASHER shown is for the 4 way flashers isn't it? I believe the T/S Flasher is attached to the steering column. I can't find a picture to show that one, sorry. Please correct me if I'm wrong. As of today both my flashers are OEM, never changed. I remember when I added a trailer for my snowmobile, the T/S would flash way faster!!! -

What year is your Monte? My 71 has the evaporative emission system so the (original) gas cap is a tight seal. I think 70 Monte's had the "vented / leaking" type of gas tank but I'm not sure. -
What has changed from the day it was built? I read one time, the headlight switch, if replaced, could be missing a terminal. Here is a picture of my 71 OEM switch. I believe it needs 7 terminals to function and some replacements only have 6.

Very nice Cougar! My wife had a 73 red hardtop with a 351 C 2bbl W A/C, but it was stolen shortly after we got married. She misses it to this day and I understand how bad I would feel if my Monte was ever stolen. Tried many times to find it with no luck.

Is the dash "grounded" correctly / fully You could add an extra ground wire, that you know is truly grounded, for testing purposes. Here are some pictures I have from my 71 with the optional gauge package. I forgot to hook up the ground wire attached to the parking brake assembly and had some problems. I also remember being worried the power spade, for the clock, could "touch" the printed circuit and receive power or a short if I didn't add some black tape to insulate it. I also remember a problem people have had if the wrong headlight switch is used. Mine has 7 pins. some replacements do not. Again, for my 71 NO A/C Good luck!

amber bulbs for my 71 with clear lenses -
Did somebody say SNOWBALL!!!!!!!! How is your heater core, carpet, should you add 3 point safety belts and about 5 other things I did after my heater core started leaking and steaming up the windows. Good time!! If this link works, enjoy it. https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/1971-monte-carlo-no-a-c-heater-core-replacement-pics/

Same problem with my 71. I use a 3/4" copper pipe with rubber tips on each end, but on a windy day the hood opened a bit higher and the pipe fell out then the hood slammed shut and chipped some paint in several areas. I added one additional small spring inside one of the original springs and it did help some. Good luck!

flasher relay or bulb socket? Hazard button?
stangeba replied to Crom Cruach's topic in Electrical Tech
All I remember is: the 1156 bulb has ONE element and ONE spot to connect power to, via the socket. It is used in the Back Up lights. the 1157 bulb has TWO elements and TWO spots to connect power to via the socket and I believe were the only ones used in the Ft (one bulb each side) and Rear (Two bulbs each side) T/S and illumination. The small little lights are used in the side markers. I bought some replacement 1157 bulbs over 10 years ago, and they had a slightly smaller base and it was loose in the socket causing some intermittent problems. I bought some higher quality bulbs and they fit much better / tighter. GROUNDS are very important and need to be checked. Side story, It's 1969 and My friend was replacing a bulb on the taillight of his 64 Chevy but couldn't get it to work. I took a look and found he had jammed a 1156 into a 1157 socket!!!!!!!! Dah.. Good times... ALSO!!! What is not stock or was changed? The largest cause of taillight and T/S problems I remember repairing, is after someone ADDS A TRAILER HITCH WITH WIRING!!! or a an "A Pillar" adjustable spot light. -
Thanks for all the work you do!

I just received my 20 year grill badge today. Thank you so much! I read through this web site everyday, several times, and really enjoy the posts. Here are two pictures, one from this summer and the other from June 6, 1971. Bruce
