  1. Yes, Steve, I ordered and installed the 2 1/2" Summit DIY header-back kit for the first gen Monte and have been mostly pleased with it. I do find the turbo mufflers to be a bit loud but you may love it if that's your thing. It is a more mellow/throaty sound, not sharp or crackly (which I can't stand). Unfortunately, I did not have a lift available to me then (I do now) so I did it on my back on the garage floor, which I do not recommend BTW. Installation would have been a breeze if I could have connected to full-length, straight back headers but the only ceramic coated headers I could find to fit my big block 4-speed (the Z-bar interferes with #7 tube) were the Patriot shortys with 45 degree collectors. I probably spent twice as much time fitting/fabricating the adapters as the rest of the installation. All of the sections have ample length to adjust the fit as you like. The hangers are robust and sufficient for a sturdy installation. I'll included a few pics and one video (so you can hear the turbo mufflers) below but let me know if you have any specific questions. Summit's DIY kits are real price performers if you are not looking for anything exotic. Good luck. PS. The photos seem to always post in reverse order on this site so starting at the bottom will make more sense. Also, you'll probably first need to download the video to play it. IMG_5558.MOV

  2. Looks to be a nice car. Late build date July 1970 and is a Flint car with the rare broadcast sheet. Only the second Flint built broadcast sheet I have seen so far since the actual build sheets are no where to be found for flint cars.

  4. For the LS5 engine the starter is non-illustrated and says assembles the same as the L34. Doesn't mean the part number is the same though. A quick check of GMpartswiki shows the production number to be 1108430 and the service part number to be 1108429. Lots of information in the assembly manual but part numbers are sometimes not in them. Digging a bit deeper into the M40 assembly section once again we find it is non-illustrated assembles same as production see BOM or parts list. So the L34 illustration shows the part number for a standard trans no the TH400. rotin

  5. So far it is just my old bumper from my 70 Monte. I had to make some brackets to get it mounted on the wall and added some lighting. I plan to add taillight housings and have the taillights work too. I will need to come up with something for the backup lenses. Some frosted clear plastic will do I just need to find the right container I can cut up.

  8. I spoke with someone at GM this morning. Apparently GM is 'rebranding' their archives she said, unfortunately they took down all the info before doing it correctly. She suggested I email them with a request for the 3 years I want, which I just did. If/when they arrive, I'll post. The parts manuals may just be 'service' replacements, not the actual part number people are sometimes looking for in a restoration.

  13. So, out of curiosity, I seemed to remember the factory service manuals had specs in the back of the book for a lot of stuff. I looked in my '72 manual and found the page below. It lists the starter part number, engines, specs, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the 70 manual. If someone here has one, they may be able to give it a quick look and see what it shows. I've been meaning to get a 70 & 71 manual, just hasn't happened yet. The 'new' ones they offer online are crappy reproductions that are barely readable, so that's out. Tried it once, sent it back to Amazon.

  14. So the last set of Diamond Back tires turned out to be hockey pucks so I tried these radials made by Kelsey Tire. I am really pleased with the look and ride of these!
