  1. With a bad fuel pump, which we found out at a later date. Nosing over around the 1000ft it ran a best of a 13.20 With a used/new pump the car driving around is a night and day difference better. That being said, I would say it would go 13 flat or in the 12.90s now.
  2. I personally like the gold that is on the car. Like Brew said, today's paints will really make the color pop!
  3. No shims needed if putting a 71-72 fender on a 70. Bolt holes for the tie bar are in the same location. You could also use the tie bar for the fenders installed IF changing in pairs. ie- 70 fenders onto a 71-72 OR 71-72 fenders onto a 70. Removal by cutting or tapping into the fender of one of the locating pins/dowel for the headlight bezel is necessary OR drilling a new hole for the dowel in the headlight bezel.
  4. I believe the 71 SS could be ordered with front bumper guards and pad in the rear. If you ordered rear bumper guards it would delete the pad. Not 100% on that.
  5. Go by the autometer gauge. With the sender in the head, the temp will be hotter than by the thermostat housing.
  6. Are all the spark plugs like the one pictured? That one is not horrible. That one is not your oil consumption. Check all the plugs. If they look like that one you have a leak somewhere.
  7. Sorry for your issue. If you test from the positive battery terminal to the negative do you have power? Do you have grounds from the body to the frame, frame to engine, and engine to body? These are additional to the negative battery cable from the battery to the engine and fender. The ground cable is obviously smoked. Change it and recheck for power. If you have power at the battery and the negative is good, and no power inside car, check the distribution block on the radiator support for power to it and leaving it going into the car. Start there and let us know what you find.
  8. Idk. I have the same seat covers but had them professionally installed. Here is a pic, hope it helps...

    Q-jet advice

Obviously something wrong there. I know people running Q-jets on super stock cars running in the 8s. The Q-jet should have performed way better than that. We're the secondaries opening fully? The linkage giving full throttle? The choke fully off, letting the secondaries open? Upper secondary air flap opening fully? Pop a Holley on it and leave all other carbs in the dust. I know, your looking for a stock look. Can't tell what's under the air cleaner.
  10. You have to do some checking but most likely the motor is either stuck or shot. You can remove the cables from the motor and turn them to adjust the height and front to back adjustments if needed.
  11. Sweet! Waiting for the next update! Fingers crossed!
  12. I run 15w-40. The clearances in the older engines even after a rebuild are bigger than the new vehicles that use 5w-30.
  13. Try Rotella diesel oil. Has a high zinc content for the cam and lifters and diesel oil has detergent in it. It should eventually clean the carbon out.
  14. Yay and poop!!! Metering rods and spring tension adjustment are not biggies. Hopefully he can do it while you wait. Fingers crossed!
  15. Idk about your theory. Never tried that. I would take the switch out and install the new one. The vacuum of the master should hold most of the fluid. The loosen the switch, have an assistant push the pedal slowly to the floor and tighten the switch. Repeat till only fluid comes out and you should be good to go. If you do it the way you explained, please post the results. My interest it piqued.
  16. What you basically did with the 15x8 rim was move the front tires out, 1 1/4 inches. That's why they rubbed.
  17. Welcome! Looks like a nice Monte to start with. Like others have stated vendors I have used harnesses manufactured by M&H electrical. Found their harnesses to be basically plug and play.
  18. Sorry, street or not, if I'm building or having an engine built, it gets forged Pistons. Ya never know what you will add later. Ask me how I know. Lolol and never say never. Lolol

    Jobe

Welcome Jobe! Pics!!! Addition to all the great places stated above Ground up and ausleys also have "phantom" fit parts for our cars.
  20. IDK why, but each year first gen has differences in the way the a/c works. The 70s and 71s have a heat control valve. The 70 is on the passenger fender well and the 71 has it in the intake manifold near the water pump. Both styles are in the heater hose going to the heater core to stop the flow of hot water. The 72 has no such valve. Other owners with a/c equipped 72s have also complained about the issue you have described.
  21. Right shape, don't need the nose but 5k? Guess I'm old. Lolol used to get something like that for 100.00 bucks, back in the day. Lololol
  22. Take the front part of a Monte frame from the firewall forward, where it's grafted to the side rails. Ez pz. Lolol
  23. Hey Willie! I guess not. Lolol
  24. Rob, donate the El Camino and I will donate and do the rest. Lol
