  2. I don't think you have to remove the fender. Remove the long rocker panel trim, and then you can probably just remove the 2 bolts that hold the lower part of the fender to the body, and some of the bolts that connect the inner fender to the wheelwell lip. Then pull the lower fender out and shim it with a 2x4 or whatever works. Make note of any shims at the bottom of the fender for reassemby. Dan
  3. If you're asking about the color of the air tank, the originals were either a flat black, or a satin gold color, but they weren't painted. They were chemically coated. I think the closest to the original coatings we can get today is black zinc phosphate and zinc dichromate (gold irodite). Dan
  4. This is the one I built several years back. I made it so I could bolt casters onto the framework, or the rocker rails. It made the dirtiest part of the restoration much easier, and I had a very handy body cart with the rails removed. The wooden design has to be cheaper to build. Dan
  5. Thanks. Yes, that's the spot they were allowing burnouts as we left the car show. I had a local guy make me a copy of the factory sticker that I believe was on my car, since it was used as an executive pool car. Finding the history on this car has been very fun.   7. The '71 sales brochure shows the international symbols were part of the SS454 package, but we know they used them in some non-SS cars, too. Dan
  8. I put a new shifter in my SS and made a custom detent plate for it. Some would call it a slap shifter now. Dan

  15. The cable bolts directly to the block. This pic is of Jim's 52k mile car. He maintains it, of course, but keeps everything he can as it came from the factory. Dan

  17. The clip you have at the rear of the trim is not correct. There should be a square hole in the metal to receive a plastic spacer that the screw goes into. The original clips were metal with one spring. The plastic clips are definitely not original, but they are probably the best to use. The metal clips are almost impossible to use, without denting the trim from the inside out, unless the originals fit better than the reproductions. I used the Auveco plastic clips on mine. I had to sand them down a little thinner, because they were too thick, but they worked well. Dan
  18. Also, the negative cable should bolt to the block, not the alternator bracket. At least, I know this to be true on 2 Van Nuys built SS '70s. Mine and Jim Shneider's came that way. His is an unrestored car with 52k miles. Dan
  19. Not true about top post only in 1970. I gave American Auto Wire my cable and battery codes from my build sheet to get the correct cables and battery. The heavy duty battery, R79W for SS cars, (and others with that option) is a side post. The positive cable code is NH, and the negative is LC. My car came from the factory with a clamp for the positive cable on the bolt for the motor mount perch, where it bolts to the frame. It's number 6 in the assembly manual pic. It did not have the clamp on the idler bolt, but our '71 small block car does. I've seen them on a number of Montes. I ended up putting both on my SS when I restored it. Dan

  21. A friend found this photo that a professional took at the Veterans Home Show a few weeks ago. I've done a little more detailing and a few shows. We went to a show out in Kansas with 1907 vehicles, all 72 and older, and another at Springfield, Illinois with over 1000 vehicles. Dan
  22. I used C.A.R.S. Inc for my cloth seat covers and they are excellent quality. Check Legendary and C.A.R.S. for prices. I also install my own headliners. They aren't hard to do. Read online, watch some YouTube videos, and take your time. I was able to get a great fit and zero wrinkles in mine, with no heat needed. Dan
