  1. Yes True, There are some differences though. The Frame mounts are the same SB and BB even from a 68-72 chevelle but you can NOT use 307 or the 305 frame mounts from a 300 Deluxe chevelle they are different, they need to be a 350. The Block mounts from a 350 to a 402/454 are different as well, you need to get BB Block mounts. Final thing you need to buy is a Big Block Wallet, a Small Block Wallet will never work as there is never enough money in a SB Wallet to run a BB..........!! Darren
  2. Thanks John.... Yes I meant Backspace sorry, I am not sure on the Offset as I bought them off of another A Body that was the same year so I didnt custom order them and know that part of info. The Nitto's Vaughn (Another Member) is running them on his 1970 on the rear in that size and says they do grip somewhat when he isnt fully into it as he runs a 572 in his 70SS. I am going to watch your thread and see how this turns out.. Darren
  3. 17x8's up front with a 4-1/2" backspace and 245-45-ZR17's 17x9.5's in the rear with a 5-1/2" offset and 275-40-ZR17's Same Bolt patterns as you mentioned and using Sumitomo Tires. I have Zero rubbing anywhere and did Not have to cut any wheel well lips anywhere on the car. Darren
  4. you must have a small block car as that will go to the temp sensor that is in the drivers side of the block. it's the Hot light for non gauges cars. Darren
  5. So right out the gate...... No Canadian Built montes have a Letter in their Vin number. They are all numbers even the ones built and then shipped and sold out of the USA. The tool and production line stopped and changed in the 4th week of June of 1970 and Monte's being assembled after that, didnt go backwards in parts but did go forward from the last production line. Such as having 1971's in production that may have had a 1970 cigarette lighter (knob wise) installed or headlight switch (knob) installed. But they never went backwards as in all the parts you are mentioning. Here is another way to look at it as well...... The 1970 Chevelle SS was the most popular year chevelle and now in collector desire the best year to have. We had customers come in to buy front and rear bumpers and grills and headlight extentions with extra headlamps and forward harness. and now your 1971 or 1972 was the popular wanted 1970. Same for the Monte Carlo..... when it comes to production numbers and desired cars with the Strike by GM, the 1971 SS was the lowest production number SS out of the 2 years and in some sense the more desired Monte besides the whole U and W code car's in 1972 which were not out at that time only 70's and 71's. And at that time the 71ss was the one to have and the same as the Chevelle clone it over to look like a desired 1971... Last give away to see the BS would be to pop the hood open and check where the fenders are bolted on at the rad support. Are the fenders completely flush or do they have the step up difference in the two bolts. The bolts to hold on the horns and hood latch on were also different with the now introduced 12 point bolts...... let us know on the bolts what they are and the fenders if flush mounted. Because the 1972 is on it's own even though we have had lots of claims of a 1972SS 4spd car's being original and bought from End of the Rainbow Motor Products. If I had a Plain Jane 1972 and just my thoughts I would Clone it over to a Custom just because it's more rare...... That supports the 1970 cloned to a 1971 thoughts..... I think when you read Rob's comments and Dan's, Aaron's,Dennis and Mine you should have your answer.. Darren

    2019 Western Meet

Aaron, This is my choice seeing how you are asking for feedback and for Multiple reasons.... Peach City Beach Cruise Penticton, BC June 21-23, 2019 http://www.peachcitybeachcruise.com/ Car show, cruises, flea market, the event treats us very well. Is it too easy for me to choose this because it's in Canada........ No as it's still a 11-12 hour drive each way.. With my health I cant cross over due to meds and no coverage, Try to cross over with Oxycotin......... hahaha It seems the Eastern Meet is in Carlisle every 2nd year and works and could work for us as it has done... We seem to get the highest count of Monte's at Penticton and Members too. Penticton gives me a Guaranteed Western Meet every 2nd year and to see extended Family (FGMCC Members). We take up the whole Hotel and is very close to the show that were are treated the best at and a reasonable price, and as you mentioned the others that were offered dont give a crap whether we are there or not except one. Like I said this is just my choice.. Darren.
  8. Garrett, looking at your plug the left side will be the engine harness side and the right side is the forward harness such as headlights etc... The side you need to be concerned with is the inside by the brake pedal. thats the color codes you need to follow. Our wiring harnesses are specific per year. 1970 wont work in a 71 unless you choose to adapt a lot of the wiring and move the pins as you mentioned. if you can trade that harness for a 71 that would be better and also the harness's are different between a Tach and Gauge harness and an Idiot light harness. the dash harness and underhood harness Must match as you Cant mix them such as a Dash tach and gauge harness and then an idiot light front harness. if you find a Service Manual for 1971 chevelle/ monte carlo that will have the diagrams in there you seek. Darren
  9. I would probably remove it mike and if you had a spare one put it in that way you can still drive the monte while you are cleaning it or sending it out for repair. jmo There is one good thing though.............. At least you were not going 88mph with a large hook on the back of it during lightning storm ! Darren
  10. ummm that almost looks like a side shot of a Furd Falcon...... ? Darren
  11. Hey Chris, Just like Dan and Steve. I am running 17x8's on the front with a 4 inch offset and a 245-45-ZR17 on the front on the rears with ZERO rubbing and didnt have to cut anything off the rear 1/4's at all on either side a 17x9.5 with a 5.5 Inch offset, with a 275-40-ZR17. The tires are key.... the more sidewall bulge the more of the rear quarter you have to trim off. Darren
  12. Hi Steve, Very nice clean car to start on....! When you say Bring her back to her original glory, is that hypothetically or as close to what a 4spd ss car would or could have been ? Also very special to note the sill plate area's inside the doors, That blacked off area is Very Specific to our cars. There are guys who are trying to replicate that area as it was forgotten to be documented and repeated during a resto, as thats a detail area.... your back seat area is very clean, and she looks to be a AC car as well. Sounds like you are going Cortez Silver rather than Placer Gold ? I will watch for pictures on this build for sure....... Darren
  13. I was watching old re-runs of Lets Make A Deal with Monty Hall today up here on the Game Show Network. It was from 1972 and the Grand Prize was behind Curtain Number 2. Man I wonder where that Monte is now as that would be cool to track down and own........ just thought I would share this, here is a screen shot as its also on you tube as well but no link sorry... Darren
  14. You know it's funny, after working at GM for so long and always working on these cars I always thought oem was the way these were supposed to look. I Guess I am an OEM Freak or a purist as some say. I go to car shows and I see resto mods and the first thing I think of is what would it take to bring this back to factory hahaha instead of seeing it for what it is. A part of me wanted to try aftermarket on at least the wheels and see how it went, but I have the need to put the factory wheels back on already as it just dont look right but then again........... hahaha Darren
  15. Well I decided to try something different on the monte. I figure I will try to keep the 15x7's and Wide Oval O's as in my signature picture and go with these for the summer..... Weld Racing Wheels. 17x9.5 on the rears and 17x8's on the front with zero issues at all with rubbing. what's your thoughts guys............? Darren
  16. HERE YOU GO EVERYONE...............THEY ARE NOW BEING REPOPPED AND NOT A BAD PRICE CONSIDERING.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1972-Oldsmobile-Cutlass-442-12-Interior-Rear-View-Mirror-w-Map-Light/173109034529?hash=item284e1a3e21:g:mA0AAOSwJc9aYfoQ Darren

    front shocks

Correct answer is BOTH... the Small Block cars like Robs came with the Spiral Shocks front and rear as Standard Load shocks. in the SS and 402 Cars they had the Heavy Duty Shocks (Smooth) that were part of the F-41 Package. The SS cars had the Load Level Shocks in back that were Air Shocks also smooth finish. Darren

Hey Jeff, I bought these when I did my Frame off on the 71ss last year. Hope that helps.......... https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-DELCO-1968-74-GM-GTO-442-GS-CHEVELLE-SS-FRT-SHOCKS/382296441317?fits=Year%3A1971%7CModel%3AMonte+Carlo&hash=item5902a4c1e5:g:sJsAAOSw9EZZk0gl&vxp=mtr Darren

  20. Reasonable for sure as his business folded and is still out of work for 8 months. I can buy it back for what I sold it to him for which would be about $4800 USD. It is a running driving custom but needs some TLC. Darren
  21. Hey Doug, I sold my 1972 Custom to a guy 3 hrs away from me and he still has it. He has asked if I wanted to buy it back so I am humming on it... What do you think?

Hey Vince, I like the second one but along the lines of a Dual One. Dave Kindig's Bitchen Rides had one they did on a 67 Chevelle I believe that came off the front as a Dual Tube intake inlet. Doing that Black tube in the same idea evens out under the hood and would tie in.and look great...... Just my thoughts Darren
  24. Well I was out and about and stopped at a Local Amusement Store and they had a lot or refurbished Pinball Machines for sale in their showroom. And wouldn't you know it they had an original 1980 Williams "Black Knight" Pinball machine, of course I had to jump at it .... It just made sense that it has to be right in front of the 71ss..... I will put it on the front of the garage, where I have an old coke machine from 1956 and an old wallmount Wriggly's gum machine and a stand up one... This will be cool when delivered and set up, come on 8 days...... hahahaha. Darren

    71 SS

Looks Great Joe, Right where I was 2 years ago...!!! I did the same thing with the fuel and return line clamps. New bolts but blasted the clamps and repainted. I also have the resonators but didnt install them as of yet, ran the exhaust full through for now. Resonators were on the 70 chevelle that I had though. shoot me an email any time Joe now you have the address. I will follow this post lots........ Great stuff ... Darren
