Back in April 2007, I purchased 4 COOPER 225.70/15 this single WSW tires from DIAMOND BACK CLASSICS in S.C. I didn't like the black huge letters so they ground / polished them off. They also will glue on any size WSW or color you want. -

Looks great! I am a stock fan (but I do have radial tires) -
On my standard (later TILT wheel) 71 Monte, yea, I forgot about it and broke it when lowering the steering column after lowering it after it was unhooked, several times in prior years. I remember removing the one screw attached to the column then lowering the column. It was not difficult.

At the Woodward Dream Cruise today, the first Monte I found belongs to Richard Gebstadt. This 71 is the best looking 71 Monte I have seen in years! Great talking to you!

I don't use them anymore. What little damage I could make, with out mats is, IMO, Not worth it.

Poor ground?

My dad's 1966 Olds 98 had power windows and I remember one of the wires broke on the drivers side door from thousands of times the wire harness was bent opening and closing the door. I did tape it together but it was very tight, no room.

What is the large hole for? I don't remember my 71 having it. Is it for Power Windows / locks?

The small plastic restrictor I almost threw out is inside the hose!(I wonder how many of these have been discarded) Can't post the other picture!!!!

My 71 all stock 350 4bbl has this problem also. It has done this for years, perhaps forever, and I believe it is the gasoline evaporating from the carb. Once the engine is cool, the smell is gone. I replaced all the rubber hoses and that did not help any.

Sorry for your loss.

Ft end alignment specs changed when all cars came with power steering. Here is an article. I had mine changed and saw some improvement. I also added the Poly bushings but after several years they started to squeak like crazy so now I will replace them with old school rubber.

Welcome to the club, great you still have your car! -
What do you use for brake fluid? I converted years ago to DOT5, can't remember when 10+ years I think, but it's worked fine and still is working fine. My brother and I started a discussion about DOT5 and how they changed the formula and the new stuff can cause some rubber items in the system to swell up and it can't be mixed with the old stuff. He sent me this article: https://nastyz28.com/threads/dot-5.320973/ Our systems are sealed but I started thinking of old vehicles that had a hole in the master cylinder fill plug, to vent it. Thoughts?

I ordered my 71 Monte Carlo with the options I wanted, and could afford, and took delivery 14 May 1971. so today 6 july 2022 my Monte is 51 years, 1 month, 22 days old.

Talking about vacuum hoses reminded me to ask if the vacuum advance hose is off and plugged, when you are setting the timing? Perhaps the fancy new dist doesn't have this option.
-
I believe if you have a vacuum hose off or leaking, the air flow is automatically directed to the w/s defroster, at the top of the dash, to keep the w/s clear if there is a failure. Check if that is where the air is flowing from and if it is, look for a vacuum hose off, pinched or damaged and leaking. Good luck!

Anyone remember the story where someone was adding gasoline to their friends vehicle each day. The friend started bragging how great his fuel economy was. Then he changed something silly (like a sticker on the window) and then the friend started to remove gasoline from the tank and it freaked the owner out how this sticker could lower his fuel economy. 🤣

We are talking Miles Per Gallon or L / km? 😁
-
All this milage talk had me wondering what my 71 stock 350 4 BBL has been averaging. I have a spreadsheet with all my vehicles miles and gas station fill up data since 2006. Here is what my Monte has averaged each year with a total average of 16.17 M.P.G. mostly regular 87 unleaded gas. 16.17 YEAR MPG 2006 15.5 2007 16.4 2008 16.1 2009 15.4 2010 16.2 2011 16.5 2012 17.0 2013 16.4 2014 15.7 2015 15.9 2016 16.0 2017 15.6 2018 16.9 2019 16.5 2020 16.4 2021 16.2 2022 16.2
