  4. Does anyone know the process they use to resore these pieces? Is the centre of the piece anodized or painted or?
  5. just got back home after being away at the cancer hospital. my 70 SS horribly filthy. and not well taken care of in my absence by my well meaning sons. my being gone and illness probably set me back years.. I am miserable.
  6. Boy can I relate to this topic!!!!! They sure were able to feed my need. terrible people.
  7. dusted off the monte and might take for a ride today
  8. Sadly the cuts have already been made. I'm actually RE-patching them, because my homemade ones weren't good enough. The patch panel is crimped and under the remaining original fender material. I'm not too worried about warping, I can easily take my time doing small welds etc. I'm more worried about it lining up with the body lines correctly. It's been so long since my car has been together I swear I forget how it's supposed to look lol. I think I'm at the right place to tack it and work on the edges/seams but I'm unsure
  9. If you can I'd cut it just under the body line, things will have less of a tendency to warp if you weld closer to a body line.
  10. Regardless of your 8 track player being restored, I would caution against actually playing an 8 track tape in it. Unless they are now making new 8 track tape cartridges there is a high probability that any tape you select will, due to its age, not give you anything but a crinkled mess of tape lodged in your newly refurbished player. Buddy of mine has a car that is worthy of being concourse judged and he told me the story of how a judge once pretty much forced him to insert a tape into the player in order to verify that it actually worked for the judging. Anyway, the tape was almost instantly eaten by the player. While my friend didn't lose points for something not working he did learn a valuable lesson about trying to use a cartridge that was 40+ years old.
  11. Hemmings Motor News has about 16 listings for radio repair and restoration under Services Offered.
  12. i knew there was more to it than I posted but it has been a few years since i did any serious body work Thank you for refreshing my memory
  13. Hey everyone. Trying to get back at the metal work now, and I'm currently working on my fender patches. I got the panels from Leo. I'm sure some people have some experience with them. They aren't perfect but an excellent starting point... With my grandpa gone now I don't really have a 2nd opinion or set of eyes at the ready. Please let me know what you think, how it's looking, any advice or suggestions. I can take more pics if needed. I think I'm close to be able to tack in place. I know the door edge needs a bit of work.
  14. Bruce your car is beautiful!!! Your pics are stella!!! Don't know if this is the right post, but i will put it here and the Officers can move if they choose!! I would like to wish All our members a Happy Memorial Day (weekend)! I also would like to thank All our Veteran's past and present, Male and Female for their service. I for one Thank You All as my family can sleep in peace. I also know what you do/did to keep us all safe. Doesn't matter who you are, you guys/gals never get enough credit!!!! My God Bless you All!!!
  15. Do a few small welds, clean them up until they're almost flush, then put a dolly behind the weld and tap it with a hammer. You should hear a ringing sound if you have them on the same portion of weld. Welding shrinks metal, so this hammering stretches it back out a bit to avoid the sucked in seam that you'll get otherwise.
  16. Alrighty, thanks for the quick reply and info!
  17. I will look at my receipts at my office. I may have his number. I think he was in New Jersey
  18. The paint and primer were all free. I don't remember the labor cost for sure but $200.00 sticks in my head. I had a lot of good times at DuPont. This picture, from 2001, was one of them:
  19. 21 years of age is the legal drinking age for Adult Beverages in most states but 21 DAYS and a wake-up is where our countdown finds us today. rob
  20. What are you using to weld the quarters on? MIG with shielding gas, MIG with flux core wire, brazing with brass rod?
  21. either one works well yo9u just don't won't to over heat it. I usually do a few tacks to hold it in place and then finish it up with the short welds. There may be better mways of doing a quarter panel but this had always worked for me
  22. Pick up a Hemmings Motor News and look thru it. Listings for stereo and radio repair, factory speakers rebuilt in there too. Reputable vendors advertised and listed in there. Old school classifieds before computers were available. You may be able to get it online now too.
  23. A number of years ago, I had obtained information on a gentleman who restored OEM Radio Assemblies. He had a website and unfortunately, when our computer died, my bookmark/favorite for his website died with the computer. I have no recollection of this gentleman's name, or his website. Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality business or individual who can restore and work on the OEM AM/FM/8-Track Stereo Radios installed in the First Generation Monte Carlos. Specifically, I'm interested in getting my 8-Track Player functioning again. It's been a long time since I've been on the Forum and appreciate your help. Here's to "Letting the Good Times Roll", as sung by "The Cars".
  24. When I first started looking for my Monte about 2 years ago I came across one that was what I thought to be a super deal. I was communicating with a guy via email who would take at least 2 days to respond. Always apologizing for his late response due to being deployed for work in a bad service area. He sent me a link for additional photos and info but I wouldn’t get a response to technical questions I had, it was like he really didn’t know the car. So I forwarded the emails to a friend who buys and sells cars. He confirmed it was a scam. One sign is the “deployed in a bad service area” statement. It wasn’t long after that, the page with the photos tied to the link “can’t be found”. I ran across a similar MO on another one a few weeks later. This was my first experience at shopping for a car on line. A real eye opener for someone with zero experience at on line shopping. Fortunately no money was ever sent and I was able to get exactly what I was looking from a reputable source.
