  1. Sorry, not much progress this week. Who was working, parts still not here, a roof being done, etc. Lolol. We did get the restored steering column, upper and lower control arms, and restored windshield wiper motor installed. Inner and outer tie rods with sleeve assembled. Calipers painted and new sleeves with bushings installed. Backing plates and caliper brackets cleaned and painted.

  3. the trim was not optional. It was standard equipment in 1970 until the factory ran out of it. This page answers that question https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/differences/

  4. What's missing? Here is a press release photo of the NEW 1970 Monte Carlo from GM and ran in the Evening paper on Aug.25, 1969. Whats missing? The hood spear! Did GM finalize their decision late in the game to add the spear to the assembly line? Or did they think no watchful eyes would scour these photos some 50 years later and see they perhaps used an older pre-production photo? I'm hoping someone here can share their knowledge or has other 1970 press photos showing the hood (spear, or no spear?) I also see the lack of chrome trim under the headlights; were they installed on all 70 Montes, or simply an option? "SPEAR-MONT" wasn't that a flavor of chewing gum?☝️🙄 Jeff 1970 Monte SS454

  5. Yes, when I suggested that, he said he would speak with the manufacturer. I didn't follow up yet, but if you're speaking with him, you can show him these same pics I've posted. (You can tell him I'm the guy from canada who called him) over the summer. He should also sell a kit, where you'd have enough material to do your steering wheel hub, dash and console. The carpet then matches the drapes! 🤣

  6. Looks like progress to me. All I got done today is start a fire in the fireplace, watch some bad Bears football and have a couple beers. The only thing Monte related was hang the Monte ornament on the tree. Happy holidays

  8. Jeff, what ever you do, DON'T start asking about how to run windshield washer hoses! 🤣

  9. Dan is correct. That is the difference in "Halo" and "Full Halo". Regarding it ending before the production for the 70 ending that is not entirely true. The end of the "Full Halo" would have depended upon which plant the 70 Monte was built in. My 70 was built in the Baltimore plant very near the end of the switch over to the 71 being built with a build date on mine being the third week in June 1970 and mine has the "Full Halo". Mine also has the under the head light trim. rob

  10. The top trim is of the halo design, even if it extends completely to the windshield. The first design that you see on alot of '70 models is known as full halo top trim. The change was made before production ended for '70 and is what's known as is the halo top trim. Dan

  11. Yeah, the issue was two fold, slick track and traffic. I could have easily been at 125+ but then I would need a non-slick area to slow down before catching up with the traffic. I’m a pretty calculated kind of guy, the math wasn’t adding up 😂

  12. Had another opportunity to make a few laps at MIS yesterday for their 13th annual MIS Cares Track and Toy Drive. Good times for a good cause. Track was a little frosty, tires breaking loose at 50 mph 😂 settled down and had some fun.

  13. The car in the picture also has the Halo top .Not all 70 Montes got that either i think?

  14. Not all 70 Monte Carlos received the under headlight chrome trim. Same as not all 70 Chevelles received the under headlight chrome trim either. It was not an option.

  15. Yes, I had questioned that as well in my first remarks; "I also see the lack of chrome trim under the headlights; were they installed on all 70 Montes, or simply an option?"

  16. I have been scouring the web for another shot of the 70 hood, but they all have spears. You guys are right...Agreed, a Pre-production Monte. Too bad, I was hoping there was yet another unsung rarity to watch for; "The Spearless Hood!" (NOT!) 😂🤣 Jeff

  17. This was offered from what I understand on non cowl induction LS5 Chevelles and a very expensive rare piece. LS6 non cowl also had a dual using the 402 style Air cleaner snorkeIs. (Plan on building one of those) I used 2 454 standard Air cleaners and made this one also deleted the round things on the spouts.. I made sure to butcher the later Air cleaners for HEI not the early Monte correct ones. Turned out nice. I think the 1980s 305 Air cleaners have the same spout too.

  18. I like it! I added one to my 71 350 NO A/C stock engine back in 1972.

  19. I adjusted them up and in tight. You actually have to open the door to roll the window up the last inch or so. Haven’t driven the car much this year as I was involved in another build (1988 MC SS track day/ drag car) so the weather strips should be compressed from sitting in the garage with the windows up.
