  1. I’ve had one done pretty simple operation mine took a little longer due to narrow angle glaucoma. Will get the other eye done in a year or so I’m told it’s not ripe yet. Just one of the benefits of growing old. The longer you live the older you get. John S
  2. Many years ago when I had my 1966 Impala SS I put those top shock spacers in because I lifted my rear springs the same way and needed more travel. It changed the angle of the shock absorbers and ripped the spacers out of the frame crossmember where they mounted. Nothing a wire feed welder and some metal couldn’t fix. Personally I think those top shock spacers are a “bad idea”. John S
  3. A few years ago I had the same problem. I purchased three different fuel gauges including the last one which was an AC Delco unit. They would not read correctly always read empty. The sellers that I bought them from were skeptical, until I borrowed the company I work for borescope and took pictures through the gas filler where you could clearly see the float was resting on the bottom. Then they had no problem giving me my money back. I got lucky and the parts place happened to have an original OEM fuel sending unit, very expensive but I bought it and I’ve had no issues since John S
  4. I grew up in Kenosha Wisconsin. I was nine years old in 1968 I also remember the blizzard of 67. My dad used to let me sit on his lap and steer his 1965 Rambler Ambassador. He would shift I would steer.

    quadrajet 7040200

Third week of November 1969. The carburetor is not the original carburetor for the car, it is however, close enough for me to date correct, and code correct. The carburetor came off of a 1970 Chevelle with a 350 and 4 speed. The carburetor on the car when I bought it was Rochester Quadra jet from a 1969 truck, I still have it. I try not to be too fussy about that stuff I simply got lucky when I found the carburetor.

My earlier post for carburetor number was incorrect. My number is 7040203. 70 is prefix code, 4 is year (1970 to 75), 0 is year (1970), 2 is model (Quadrajet 4BBL), 0 is division (0,1,2,) Chevrolet division, 3 is transmission, odd #s manual transmission, even #s automatic transmission. Here is picture of carb# and date code J9 September 1969. DB is a Broadcast (customer) code.

My carburetor for my 1970 is also by Carter the number is 7040201. The last number 1 denotes manual transmission. John S
  9. Tremec TKX5 speed. I need my hands to get better so I can install it myself. A little difficult to wrench right now. I don’t want anybody else to put it in, if I can’t install it myself, I won’t get it. John S

    Grill Badge

I received the grill badge in the mail the other day. It’s a nice touch. Thank you John S
  12. I followed his instructions in the book on how to get rid of that stumble on hard acceleration and to correctly set up how fast the secondary Air flaps should open. His advice worked I got rid of that stumble on acceleration. John S
  13. That is correct I believe I torqued mine to 40 ft.lbs.
  14. I have always use the piano wire mostly pulled out windshields pulled out a number of them haven’t broken one yet. It just requires patience
  15. You can check #s at chevellestuff.net John S
  16. Black is very tough to wax. If you want to see how well you did park it under an orange street light, you will see every swirl mark that you won't see in the sun. I use Jax Wax it wipes on easy and comes off easy. I use a couple of very soft bath towels and they work great. Wipe off a small area at a time John S
  17. The parts place inner fender wells are a good product. I replaced them a couple years ago on my car the driver side went in with no issues at all. Passenger side was another story had some fitment issues around the battery tray and the brackets by the firewall. It took patience on the passenger side but now they look OK. Not perfect but OK
  18. The cable only pulls out from the speedometer end.
  19. Leave the two bolts through the radiator support mounts to the frame loose then you can slide the radiator support side to side that should even out your hood to fender gaps. John S
  20. I will be available tomorrow afternoon if you would like you could call me at 770-500-4547
  21. I recently repaired mine I did not take any pictures I will try my best to explain what I did this may sound hokey but I repaired it with metal strips. I bought some metal strips for hanging pictures that you can buy at a home improvement store the strips of metal were 1/32 of an inch thick. I cut them in lengths of 1 1/2“ x 1/2“ wide. I pulled back the cover of the dash pad then centered the strips of metal over the existing holes In the dash pad and attached the strips with small screws. I believe I used # 6 x 3/8 inch screws. I found screws with a flat head. I then Used loctite spray adhesive then pulled the cover of the dash pad back over the metal strips then mounted the dash pad and marked the holes and drilled them. The reason I used the metal strips for hanging pictures instead of sheet metal is that metal is hardened a little bit and is stiffer it does not bend as easy it is more rigid. It sounds kind of crude but it worked. The screws will hold better in the metal then the material the dash pad is made of. John S
  22. It looks good. I like the dash. Also is that a five speed? I want to put a tremec TKX In to lower the RPM and help with highway driving. When I get the ambition to get around to that I may have some questions for you. And yes GA 400 and I-285 up north is a mess. John S
  23. I like what you’ve done, nice job. I too have issues with six knee surgeries I don’t need a very stiff clutch. If my fly wheel is OK I plan to resurface if not I believe I can still get a GM fly wheel that is my preferred way to go. I have never had an issue with GM parts. I believe that if my flywheel has lasted 51 years it should last another day. In my experience some companies will not honor warranties unless you purchase the entire kit from them and get every part associated with them. They do not like it when you mix and match parts. I have done a little bit of research and found that an 11 inch pressure plate and disc through GM are still available, Although the disc Shown is a fine spline disc. But I should have no problems finding the 10 spline disc. I also drive in the same manner as you do. Thanks for your help if I have any issues or questions I will get back to you. John S
