  1. Well yesterday I got my speedometer issue fixed finally!!!! Pulled the tail shaft housing off the tranny and low and behold there was the retaining clip laying there all lonely and stuff. Gave it a little bend outwards to rejuvenate the spring tension and slapped her back under the tail shaft speedometer gear and seems to be holding securely, so should be fixed. YAY!!!! Moved on to the Fast Idle Solenoid issue that is not kicking on when I turn on the A/C and found voltage to be getting there but solenoid is dead. Went online to find a replacement, and they are nowhere to be found. I found an old post from 2006 or 2008 (can't remember which) that said Borg Warner ECS49 but couldn't find that anywhere either. Holley, Demon and Quickfuel make an aftermarket one but they want a fortune for them. Can't find it on Rock Auto, Year One, MuscleCar.com, checked several other sites with no joy. I may see if I can repair mine (after all it's just a coil with a plunger in it) or I may use a known good one that I pulled off of an old quadrajet that I had sitting around, but then I'm making that quadrajet incomplete. I may be able to repair this original part. We shall see..... Pinion Seal tomorrow to shore up that leak. Film at 11:00.................

  2. Several members, including myself, have successfully converted to full gauge dash clusters using a kit originally supplied by sonnie24 on eBay for around $355. Before and after photos are shown below. Note: Be sure to order the kit specifically made for the '70 Chevelle/Monte Carlo because the numerals are light fluorescent green (numerals are white on the '71 & '72 kits). Here's the eBay address: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374809845164?hash=item5744685dac:g:kMIAAOSwrv5cj5T4 The sonnie24 kit works perfectly, although the original instructions he provided with his kit absolutely sucked. He may have started shipping better instructions recently. I worked with Darren Bull to develop a much more detailed and illustrated set of installation instructions for that conversion kit for a '70 Monte and can make them available to anyone who asks. Just let me know.

  4. I'm not sure all modulators have that adjustment screw but I could be wrong. I don't remember the oe modulators having it.

  11. Th350 and th400 converters interchange. The extended ears were probably welded on for the th400 flexplate bolt pattern. Most likely the core was a th350 core. MOST flexplates now have the "big" and "small" torque converter bolt patterns. Back in the late 60's early 70's it was not uncommon to find only 1 converter pattern on the flexplate. The th400 is longer than the th350. I don't remember exactly but roughly 2" longer. So a shorter driveshaft is recommended. Torque converters will "stall" at different rpms depending on the engine. A 2500 stall may stall at 2500 behind a 350 but stall at 3200 or so behind a big block.

  12. You can certainly call Summit and they will answer your questions about the extended ears. Could be a variation depending on application.

  15. Just got back home. Safe and sound. I just want to take a bit of bandwidth to say how much of a good... make that great time my son and I had. Never having attended any meet before this was an awesome experience. We got to meet a number of members that I see posting on the forums all the time. Truly, a great group. I want to say thank you to C.K. for all his hard work organizing the meet. Great Job! For those that are in my shoes and have never attended a meet before I recommend you get out to one. The camaraderie of the members, makes you feel right at home with many going out of their way to ensure you are included as part of this one big family. I didn't get a chance to bring my car but that didn't matter, my son and I still took part in the group events (dinner, door prizes, etc.) and hung out with the gang in the "Monte Carlo Coral" at the meet. I must say the FGMCC group seemed liked that biggest organized group of cars at the meet. I look forward to attending more of these events. I will finish by quoting Steve Lavoie's (cny first gen 71) quote he has in his messages... There is no such thing as strangers, only friends we have yet to meet.
