curtish57
Hi All, Just joined up here officially and wanted to share my Monte. It's a 70 I bought it back in 2016 as a 350 350 car, tore that out in 2018 for another project that I ended up selling. I am now neck deep in putting a 454/400 combo into it. I really appreciate all the help and advice so far as I have reached out on a variety of things I need help with. I anticipate much more solicitation on my part in the next few months lol as I have never gone through this process and to say I am nervous about installing and breaking in a freshly rebuilt flat tappet cam engine, would be the understatement of the century. Anyway I am just at a point now I have the trans put back together and can get it mated to the motor so I can get it in the car. I have a new engine and front lamp harnesses on order so I have time, a few weeks at least. Looking forward to conversing with and meeting more of you in the future. (First 4 pics are from 2018 when it was last a running car before I too the old 350/350 out. The rest are current(ish) progress/status and some other general beauty shots) Couple new guy questions if anyone could help- 1. I was thinking about using this stuff: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/truck-bed-and-undercoating/2-in-1-rust-reform-seal for all the front frame and what not now that I have the grease and grime off and it's down to the metal. The car is remarkably rust free other than some minor surface in a couple areas. My understanding is the car spent the majority of it's life in central WA where it is very arid most of the year. 2. Based on my body tag is my car just a two tone or is it supposed to have a vinyl top? The reason I am confused is I thought only the vinyl top cars got that extra trim above the windshield in 70. P.S. Ignore the mustang in the background lol.
Glen
Welcome Curtis! I don’t think I’ve seen a two-tone car with the halo trim until yours. Per your trim tag it shows: Two Tone 25-10 Astro Blue with Classic White Top 25-28 Astro Blue with Fathom Blue Top 28-25 Fathom Blue with Astro Blue Top 34-10 Misty Turquoise with Classic White Top 55-10 Champagne Gold with Classic White Top 58-10 Autumn Gold with Classic White Top 63-10 Desert Sand with Classic White Top Here’s a link to the FGMCC thread about paint and top colors as put together by Canuck… https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/paintcodes/
Scott S.
As for the undercoating, I've used the Kleen-flo stuff. It's pretty easy to spray, is paintable, and doesn't harden like a rock. Mind you, heat from the engine might have an effect on that.
Dtret
I’d just paint the frame with frame paint. You don’t want anything to thick around the bushings and mounting areas it will throw off all the body alignments.

Canuck
Welcome! I see that was originally a 2-tone car that was Fathom Blue with Astro Blue top. Very cool and I imagine pretty rare.
