Ian
We made up our mind on a new host (server) for the club website this week. We have moved http://www.fgmcc.com to the new server and I have setup the message board and gallery software so far. I will be updating the rest of the site on the new server over the next few weeks. For now I could use some help testing the message board and gallery for errors so if you want to stop over at the new site you can go to http://www.fgmcc.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php and try posting some new posts / pictures it would be great. It is a copy of the site as of a couple days ago, and will get overwritten with the data from this site when we move the rest of the domains to the new host / server. Below you will see the speed difference between the 2 servers, the new one is very fast, and is run by the people that write the software we use for the message board, so if we have any issues that I can not fix they can We are on a brand new server that they just installed last week and are 1 of only a few customers on it right now. I hope to have us fully on the new server in less than a month. Once we are happy everything is working the way we want we will point www.firstgenmc.com and www.firstgenerationmontecarlo.com to the new host. Ian
Allan thanks for the info, can you post / email any screen shots of the issues in Chrome? I have been doing my testing on Win7 with IE8, and Firefox, and on my Ubuntu box with Firefox and Chrome... As for the database it is a exact copy of the site as of a few days ago, I think the big speed increase comes from the fact that the DB is on the local host not some other server, and it is tweaked for UBB. The nice thing is that Rick (owner of the software and hosting company) does not plan to overload any one server with customers. He also can and has fixed any configuration issues between UBB and the server. They are working on a complete rewrite of UBB right now. It is in Alpha testing, and my go Beta soon. Ian
OK after racking my brain for the last few weeks to get the pages to all look right I have most of the web site transferred to the new host. Please take a few min to click around the site at http://www.fgmcc.com/index.shtml and let me know what you think. All the main pages that are linked from the main page should work, except for some of the album pages that will need a little more editing. I have tested them in Firefox, IE, and Chrome so far. Any Mac users that use Safari want to let me know if they see any issues? If you see any missing images or broken links, you can post them here, PM me or email me. Once we like what we see, I will have to close the message board here, take a backup and restore it on the new host, and then point the other 2 domain names to the new host. I am thinking by this weekend we should be good to go. Thanks!
