  1. I have a 70 402 4sp. 86,000 mi. green with buckets. No console, no power steering, rear defrost in rear window deck. Dealer installed remote trunk release, tach and gauges. very minor rust. Original motor gone before I got it, has a 68 - 396 built 3,000 mi. on it or so. Rebuilt the 12 bolt with 3:55 Richmond gears and a Eaton posi. With Ralleys. I welded a heavy chevy cowl hood on it and had a friend put stripes on hood and trunk. Paint is shot on the car good 40 footer LOL...I have owned the car for 27 years !

  2. Congratulations and welcome to the club, Jim! You own a rare big block, factory 4-speed, '70!! Have you had her awhile or is this a recent acquisition? Hope it is still matching numbers, but even if not it should be a blast to drive! Looks like someone has done a reasonably good job integrating a cowl induction into the Monte hood and the Chevelle rally stripes appear to be nicely done, also. I imagine you are planning to provide the necessary love to bring this rare survivor back to prime condition. That original drivetrain alone will make it well worth some serious restoration! In the meantime, enjoy driving her! Where was your '70 built (the 7th position of the VIN is the assembly plant code)? If the code is anything other than an "F" (Flint), you might be able to find a Build Sheet somewhere in the seats or under the gas tank. The hand-written list of optional equipment on the Bill of Sale is really hard to read but I don't see power steering on there. My factory 4-speed '70 was originally built without power steering, also, and it was a beast to parallel park or turn around until I installed a salvaged factory power steering system. Thanks for the pics. Enjoy the club!

  6. Just drag pictures into the lower area, or hit the 'add files' button. Sometimes if the picture is too large it won't load. Resize them if needed, and try again.

  8. You may find a straggler part here or there but gaskets and diaphragms generally need to be made. Post what parts you are looking for and it’s possible that someone here might have some.

  10. It is for the first 30 days, pretty much unlimited access. After that, it reverts to the limited 'non-member' restrictions.

  14. This would be a great find on an original Monte Carlo! I'm lovin' the 4spd behind that Big Block. Could this be an original 4spd car? That Dick Harrell car ,was that at Carlisle a while back? I've got to ask, why is there a picture of my car in this thread? Raining here, working on my BBC ,can you believe it? Just finished up the oil pump/pan install. Next, motor mounts, water pump, then we get to play with pushrod/rocker arm geometry.

  16. Hi Joe. Welcome to the first gen club. We've been hoping to find an original factory LS6 Monte, or a 4 speed for a long time. Each time a car has been inspected for the numbers and codes, it has come up short. The casting number of the block and the stamped suffix code will tell if the engine is the original to the car. The transmission will also have a partial VIN. There were a number of guys that tried to order a Monte with an LS6, but they were denied. I have a '71, 402, 4 speed that was "settled for" after a GM employee tried to order an SS454 with a 4 speed. The guy tried to use his position to get a car that wasn't offered to the public, but his order was denied after being sent in. The LS6 Monte that was referred to earlier was modified right out of the factory not by a dealership, but by Dick Harrell Performance Centers of KC, MO. Here is some good information. Dan
