  1. I think I’d look damn good rolling in that. And no need for a crane to get in it. I’ll just pick people up and throw them in. I took the liberty of photo shopping myself next to it for reference...

  2. The Peter’s family posted that on facebook. I was going to show Joe this morning when we were together but I forgot. lol. Is that a new fangled version of a banana hammock? 😝😝

  5. If it had big mudder tires and a 4X4 I'd have maybe some interest 🤣 Running boards are a must for us older banged up citizens 🤣 My Silverado has that fold down/step tailgate. When I first saw the commercial I thought what a load of "stuff", then I had to climb up in the bed and thought thank gawd

  6. Aaron did you get that from Dennis's house?????

  7. Brant like Dennis said, don't sell it the way it is if you don't have to. If the original engine is long gone, just replace what's in there now. If you don't know where to find one give Jared a call maybe he can hook you up!! The car is worth way more running than not!! And don't forget, we are here for any questions if you need us????

  8. I have to say there is nothing more satisfying to me than having a repair book that has bookmarks, oil and grease stains, highlighted and underlined areas, etc. I still use my Chiltons manuals for the Monte which are fairly well worn. I use those (I have 2 of them) way more than the assembly manual or the Fisher body book.

  9. These will do the job: ebay-CD version Here are printed versions, but most likely reproductions of the originals. I found that the print quality of those wasn't near as good as original, to the point I sent them back (individual manuals, from Amazon). May work for your limited use though: https://www.ss396.com/monte-carlo/HMS-70A.html?Category_Code=monte-carlo-hgg-100

  11. Cory, Welcome aboard the boards. We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a dues paying member. Yes, we would love to see you and your dad in Carlisle. Since you are filled up on T-Bucket venue's maybe cancel one of them and join us in Carlisle. You would not regret it. rob

  13. Hey Tyler. I know how you Minnesotans are, trust me. Born and raised in Coon Rapids Minnesota. We tend to be that way. lol. Get him on the site and let him play around and read the wealth of information that’s available. Whether he becomes a member or not isn’t as important as getting him the information he needs.

  15. Thanks for the invite. I don’t know if we can swing that. We have a T Bucket National in Branson Missouri in May, a regional at Bowling Green in June and another regional event at Elkhart Indiana in September. Lots of running. We would sure love to see everyone and all the cars. If not this year hopefully next year.

  16. It's not too late to sign up and meet us all in Carlisle, Pa in a couple months either. So far, it's the largest gathering to date, with something like 80 members, and well over a hundred with family members included. Great way to meet a lot of really fantastic people, and also share the trip with your family too, if wanted.

  17. My father and I just purchased our very First 1972 Monte Carlo. Really good driver buts needs some TLC. Lots of little minor things to address. Let the learning curve beguin. Thanks for allowing us into the Family.

  18. To me, all 3 are essential. GM Service Manual, Assembly Manual, and Fisher Body Manual. The GM overhaul manual comes in handy sometimes, but focus more on specific parts such as the transmission, rear diff, power steering pump/gear, etc. It's a deep dive in the repair/overhaul of major parts. You can buy a CD with all 4 manuals on it for around $35 from a couple different sources. I tend to like the paper manuals though, so I have those on hand for the year cars I own, as well as the CD's.

  19. Hi All, Just joined up here officially and wanted to share my Monte. It's a 70 I bought it back in 2016 as a 350 350 car, tore that out in 2018 for another project that I ended up selling. I am now neck deep in putting a 454/400 combo into it. I really appreciate all the help and advice so far as I have reached out on a variety of things I need help with. I anticipate much more solicitation on my part in the next few months lol as I have never gone through this process and to say I am nervous about installing and breaking in a freshly rebuilt flat tappet cam engine, would be the understatement of the century. Anyway I am just at a point now I have the trans put back together and can get it mated to the motor so I can get it in the car. I have a new engine and front lamp harnesses on order so I have time, a few weeks at least. Looking forward to conversing with and meeting more of you in the future. (First 4 pics are from 2018 when it was last a running car before I too the old 350/350 out. The rest are current(ish) progress/status and some other general beauty shots) Couple new guy questions if anyone could help- 1. I was thinking about using this stuff: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/truck-bed-and-undercoating/2-in-1-rust-reform-seal for all the front frame and what not now that I have the grease and grime off and it's down to the metal. The car is remarkably rust free other than some minor surface in a couple areas. My understanding is the car spent the majority of it's life in central WA where it is very arid most of the year. 2. Based on my body tag is my car just a two tone or is it supposed to have a vinyl top? The reason I am confused is I thought only the vinyl top cars got that extra trim above the windshield in 70. P.S. Ignore the mustang in the background lol.

  20. Brant, just curious, how did the car run when you bought it and what’s it doing now? What’s determining that the motor is shot? Smoking, loss of power, fouling plugs, overheating, water in the oil? It seems you may take a bigger hit on the car than the cost of repairing. You stated you had 3 first gens in the past (40 or so years ago) and now as an elder, possibly for nostalgia, you’ve got another. You joined the club and now a wrench was thrown into your plans. If you re going to sell with future plans to get another then I wouldn’t. As Dennis said, not sure of your financials, so maybe it’s easy for me to say. Please elaborate more on why the motor is shot. Your Monte looks too nice to throw in the towel. At 68 I had about a 40 year span between my first 71 and my current 71. Good luck with whatever you decide.

  21. Cory, Well worth the price of joining this Club. We also hold a Mini Meet at the Syracuse Nationals, the “Largest Car Show in the Northeast” with over 10K plus vehicles in attendance at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse NY. Plenty of great members, events, information, camaraderie and fun. We hope you will join us.

  22. Don’t sell. Put a motor in. IF, I don’t know, money is the issue you can buy a running small block usually pretty cheap and put it in the car in a day. Paint it up so it looks good and there you go.

  39. I been on internet trying to get educated on these first generation Monte Carlo’s. Car is in good shape. I decided the tag under hood and found paint code 50. I could tell it had been painted. Just not factory color. I have figured out the super heat fuse that was missing on A/C previous owner had jumper wired compressor. I’m in process of hunting why idle Solenoid has no 12V key on at moment. It’s little things like this that drive you crazy

  42. Welcome, beautiful car. The Assembly and the Fisher Body manuals are the way to go. They are dedicated to a specific year. All the others try to cover too many years in one book. I also have the GM Chassis Service manual. Admittedly it covers other Chevrolets of that same year.

  44. Welcome aboard the boards. Your friend should also join the boards and become a dyes paying member of the club. The items Dennis already mentioned are the most important books he could purchase. In addition to those, if he could find a Chilton for it, that would be a bonus buy. rob

  46. That white painted roof looks great over the Ascot Blue. If it's factory original, it would have been special ordered. The spec pack for 1971 shows the antique white top not available with the Ascot lower color. Ahh, the good old days when they'd let you have almost anything to nail the sale.

  47. Mine is a factory two-tone and it has the fiber optic light monitor system, wiper wash monitor and vanity mirror. None of them super common but very rare in combination on same car. rob
