While the hunt and the chase to track these girls down can be both fun and exhilarating, it obviously can also be infuriating. Hell, I was only 15 when you sold that car; I can only imagine what might have happened over the 35 years since. Regardless ...if you guys develop any new leads, please let me know and I’ll have my bud try again.

Did you cut the OE coils or do you have adjustable coil overs? Asking because mine arrived with the latter and I’ll be experimenting with dialing them in to my preference sometime soon (ride is a little harsh on some of these Chicago streets). Agreed. The 2.8’s had a 0-60 time of a week to 10 days. And 1/4 mile times? Let’s just say that erosion is quicker.

So... the two seals that screw below the windows? Does this result in baby seals? Yeah, it’s my day off and the Old Fashioned’s are going down smoothly.

I had the same pressurized gas cap problem as my tank isn’t vented. The tank would actually contract with a loud “thunk” as I removed the cap after driving, especially when there was only a little gas (more vapor) in it. I ordered and installed a “vented” cap and still had the same issues I fixed this problem by drilling six 1/16” holes in the cap. Now when I back into the garage and turn the car off I can hear the cap hissing. Problem solved, just don’t squat down by the rear plate with a lit cigarette in your mouth to check your handy work.

I’ve always loved Chevelles and Camaros (my first ride at 16 was a ‘67 Camaro with a 327 and PG)... but “everyone” has one of those cars. Give me ANY first generation MC over those other Bow Ties anyway.

Thanks, gents. I consider myself lucky to have found this girl when I did.. I wasn’t planning on looking for my retirement gift to myself for a few more years, but something made me once again Google “70-71 Monte Carlo SS” last fall. I wouldn’t call it an impulse buy as I knew not to fall in love with pictures on the internet and I’m reasonably well-versed with numbers, options etcetera, but I quickly got “that feeling” that this car had to be mine. While far from perfect, she came with the mechanical heavy lifting already done by previous owners who recognized and appreciated the rarity and significance of these cars. Thankfully they had the foresight to retain (the majority of) the original parts and keep them with the car. It will make returning her back to 100% stock that much easier if I ever decide to take that route. I looking forward to meeting some of you guys (and gals) when the work and life schedules allows us to do so. Be safe, all!

Not sure if mama and I are gonna make the Bristol meet this year (fingers crossed for next year), but definitely looking to get to some local cruise nights this summer. Keep me in mind and I’ll do the same with anything I hear.

Yeah... OPGI’s shipping policy/costs drives me bananas. I made the mistake of forgetting to include the rubber bumpers/stop kit (neither door had them, there was only one behind the license plate frame, and the four under the hood were pretty much shot/dry rotted) on an order of other items that shipped for free. That $15 kit cost me $30 with shipping. Totally bogus, but they know they got ya.

Finally got the time to free the Monte from the bubble. She leaked about 3/4 of a pint of tranny fluid over the winter, so those O-Rings will be getting replaced sometime in the very near future. Stayed close to home for the maiden voyage, so no exciting backdrops (unless a Chicago alley is your thing). And wouldn’t you know it, the local weathermen are calling for up to 3” of snow on Tuesday. Bastards. More pix forthcoming when I get her out regularly after this week of crap weather. Gotta change the oil, so the numbers hunt will also take place at that time. And proudly rockin’ the FGMCC front plate!! - that went on first thing out of the garage.
