What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Put my Cragars on this afternoon. 0814161349a-1_zpsisbggspf.jpg

Kinda digging the Crager look. But I have to stick with the old school look for now.....no more extra cash for tires and rims.

So I've made a THIRD version of my fuse & ignition coil plate-this time with a narrower fuse block (that has individual screw terminal feeds) and some relay bases I realized I need, with the plate as narrow as possible.

Two problems exist, it needs to be wider because I need a third relay base and no matter how high I mount the coil, it'll be in the way of the distributor.

I've decided to make the plate fuses and relays only and the ignition coil will mount nicely on the cowl behind the brake booster-by the holes over there, it looks like I've done this before.

The power buss I made for the fuse block will have a stacked dual terminal lug, 4 gauge from the battery via the starter (battery's in the trunk) and a 4 gauge to the alternator.

Thanks Dave. I thought so too when I first saw this car 10 years ago. I never thought it would be in my garage but it all came together this year. Love it.

Not my ride but I spent the day cleaning and prepping my buddy's car, it's going to Brooklyn to be in some TV show.

This car has been covered and untouched for ten years, last used for the American Gangster shoot in 2006.

New battery, a little Gumout in the carb (we didn't have starting fluid) and she fired right up-with ten year old gas!

It runs pretty good, maybe a little rough, nothing a proper tune up wouldn't fix.

4 barrel 350, 12 bolt rear, triple black, cloth bucket interior with center console, gauge package.

I raised the transmission up to servicing height.

The original JW Super Bell Housing bolts through the front pump-and always leaked through the bolts. They make then now with some sort of o-ring. My fix will be using some nice Neoprene sealing washers. The Neoprene compresses and also tightens around the bolt.

This should save me at least a grand over having my trans shop fool with it, they're the best and not cheap!

Since the suede headliner came in I saw the the Chevelle side panels would not work. I found an original Monte side panel and used it as a template for the new ones. The new ones will be cover in the extra suede that came with the headliner and then the rear deck will be made later down the road with the same suede that was used in the trunk.14494747_1274569855911318_7670421755265614390996_1274569955911308_6261661737737614494655_1274570005911303_34481549300317

I took delivery of a pair of fender skirt filler panels. They're smaller than I thought they'd be.

It sure is easy to get to spark plugs and header bolts with the fender skirt out! I'm gonna swap out the old school fiber header gaskets to modern MLS gaskets while it's accessible.

  • 2 weeks later...

I made it back to working on the elec fans for the 72. 14440771_1280599855308318_75338046961047 Got the wiring all taken care of 14570256_1280722678629369_3727239416047814572155_1280722768629360_92163246658839  The fans should come on at 185°

What did you go with for the wiring? Controller etc.

I installed a headlight relay wiring harness to bypass the headlight switch. Stock bulbs noticeably brighter. Next is replacement lenses with H4 Halogen bulbs.

So I'm crawling around under the car doing million things and my eyes wander to the motor mount plate to chassis bolts. Hmmm, lemme pull one for inspection. Now, my motor dynoed on the stand at 592 ft-lbs at 2,250 RPM, so you know what I did with those 45 year old whothehellknowswhatgradetheyare bolts.
