  1. Many years ago (Aug 1996) I replaced my stock AM/FM stereo with an aftermarket "Custom Autosound" Kenwood 800 AM/FM stereo for $399.00 + tax. It did have a plug in the rear, so I added a CD changer in the trunk. I bought the Kenwood 10 CD player, used, from my old boss, don't remember how much. The CD will skip at times when I drive over a bump but I like it, playing all my old CD's.
  2. Even the aftermarket companies that don't cater to the restoration crowd are moving away from CDs. Alpine doesn't have a receiver with a CD player unless it's a larger navigation unit that uses DVDs, and only half of Kenwood's receivers have CD capabilities. The nice thing with that is that the receivers are getting shorter so installation is easier.
  3. Used the Kenwood's that came with them. they sound ok but I might replace them later.
  4. So the consensus seems to be that the Kenwood 4675C 4 X 6 speakers would fit under the dash with minor modifications. I bought a pair and installed the passenger side speaker using the existing bracket. I am attempting to install the driver's side speaker using the existing bracket but am having some trouble. There does not seem to be as much clearance on that side. I have the gauge package and wonder how the speaker is supposed to fit behind the rear of the AMP. Any suggestions from anyone who has done this already? Was wondering whether to modify the existing bracket by first taking it off and then grinding it down in the middle where the magnet seems to need more clearance. And yes I have a factory AM radio that was converted to a AM/FM stereo that can use these type of speakers. Joe

  6. Not sure what exact post you're looking for, but a quick search of 'kenwood' with the forum search tool produced a bunch of posts. Look thru these, you may find the specific one you're looking for. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/search/&q=kenwood&quick=1
  7. Does anybody remember that post from a few years ago where a member replaced his front dash stereo speakers with Kenwood ones? If someone has the part numbers for those or can forward me that post I would appreciate it. Thanks Joe
  8. Yes. I was just looking them up, lol. I got them from Amazon at the time for $89.99, but it looks like Crutchfield now has them cheaper, plus it looks like free shipping too. Summit has them for the same price as Crutchfield, if you can get over the free shipping threshold by ordering other things you may need. I looked at Pioneer, Polk, Kicker, Kenwood, plus anything else at the time. The magnets on those were just too large, especially with the D/D dash. Look at the pictures they have, you'll see the difference in construction.
  9. The new dash is installed but my Kenwood speakers will not fit with the Dakota Digital dash pod. DANG it. The Voltage meter is larger than the old amp meter. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what speakers were used to solve it. I seen some speakers on one of the threads that had a smaller magnet on them but at 89.99 I was hesitant to order. It is going to be month or more before the 72 gets back on the road as I am also waiting for Steve Gregori to finish the restoration of the brake booster. Here is a link to the speakers I found http://turnswitch.com/speakers.htm
  10. I have a 3/4" thick file covering Custom Auto Sound and all the problems, issues, returns, re-returns and (worst) the total lack of any customer service. Now that was about 10 years ago, but it still makes me sick when I see them on TV or in advertising. I currently have an actual Am-FM-Cassette-Remote CD Kenwood (KRC-3007 w/ two actual Knobs!!!!) Love it!!! And I have a spare in the attic.
  11. Just found my receipt from 7 Aug 1996! I paid $422.94 for a Custom Autosound Kenwood 800 Radio, ($399.00 + Tax) It has a cassette tape player and I have a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk, works great! I still have my original AM/FM Stereo in the basement (and one from a 73 Buick I think) Good tunes!
  12. Sounds good let me know.. I bought the kenwood kfc-4675c but they are just to close for me. I was thinking of some 3 1/2 inch speakers instead but I dont know if magnet would actually be cheaper. I called Turn-switch but they are out of stock until Mid June .. You could email me the picture too snomobeelr@aol.com.. Thanks
  13. We found a particular Kenwood 4x6 (Dont know model offhand but can find out) that had a smaller magney that just fit with some modifications to stock bracket. I have a picture but do not know how to post a pic here. I will email to thread starter and to Monte70car to see if the can post it. Dan
  14. I put the Kenwood speakers in my dash and just wrapped electricians tape around the magnet to be save. There was room but not a whole lot of space the reason for the tape. No problems so far and it has been three years.
  15. I am not using the AMP gauge.. I bought a pair of the Kenwood Speakers but even with Modifying the brackets it is too close to the Printed Circuit for my liking. I am probably over thinking this. I had turn-switch convert my radio and I was looking for better sounding speakers. I will not be running an amplifyer or anything so I think there speakers would sound fine. I also don't want to have to cut the Kick-panel brace in the car to fit a speaker. Thanks
  16. So I got a pair of the Kenwood 4x6 and the drivers side is just too close for me.. I am up in the air in the turnswitch 4x6 or the kick panel speakers with the mid's and tweets in the dash. For you guys who did the kick panels was there any cutting the Braces? Seems like there would be at least on the Driver side? Was an A/C car I made NON-A/C
  17. When mounting the speaker, what did you guys use for an - "L" bracket? Or did you make it? I bought the Kenwood 4 x 6 Speakers. Thanks
  18. Check out this post from a few years ago. You can go with 4x6 with a few modifications. This post shows the modifications http://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/14667-front-stereo-speakers-kenwood-kfc-4675c-install/?hl=kenwood
  19. So what should I use to repair the Radio Towers. I did purchase a set of those metal cups. I would assume you grind holes flat and adhere the cups to the holes? I was also wondering if you could use an old kenwood/Alpine or Pioneer that has RCA outputs or a DIN Plug and is there a way to convent them to inputs for an IPOD? Thank You, Alan
  20. Finished my Mark VIII electric fan upgrade. I trimmed the fans surround to fit snug deep in the back of the OEM shroud. Engine bay looks OEM except has no power robbing clutch fan. I also used the BMW dual temperature fan switch and the Volvo fan relays. Very happy with this mod. New Kenwood head unit with Bluetooth goes in tomorrow, hidden of course
  21. Leghome, Do you think you could post some pictures of The Kenwood speaker mounted in the left bracket? I purchased a set of the Kenwood 4675-C speakers. But when I took my MC to have my stereo system installed by a local stereo shop they accidently destroyed the bracket when they tried to cut it to make the new speaker fit. Now I'm in need of a new left front speaker bracket. I'm going to also need the other smaller brackets that connect to the speaker. I'm in the process of trying to acquire a replacement left bracket. I just wanted to see how you mounted your speaker. Thank you.
  22. Kenwood makes some that work really well. Someone else will have to supply the part as this feeble mind cannot remember much of anything today Found the part number Kenwood 4675-C. These are the ones I used and only had to modify the brackets slightly
  23. Joe, I opted for Electro Tek 4x6 front speakers instead of Kenwoods. Although they have smaller magnets and are available with adapter brackets (for an additional $10), the driver's side still required some very minor adjustments (but no cutting or grinding of the original brackets). In addition to the other suggestions, I placed some thin insulator material between the electrical connectors on the speaker and the original speaker bracket because of the close fit. I was concerned that installing the dash pad might press the speaker down just enough to cause a short. I have included a couple of photos of the speakers and brackets in case there is anything there that might also apply to your Kenwood speakers.
  24. You're right there isn't much room on the driver's side to begin with, using the Kenwood speakers you posted with the huge magnet I'm sure posses more of a difficulty. Were you looking for a 2-Way Coaxial Speaker in the way of a better sounding speaker? I have experienced similar issues and just modified the existing brackets, although the tight fit also posed a problem with the dash pad.
  25. Robert, I found the paper work! I have a 19 year old Custom Autosound Kenwood 800 radio purchased 8/7/1996 for $399.00 My OEM knobs from my 71 will not fit. Bruce
