What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Recommended Posts

Congrats on your find!! Is there any leakage into the interior or trunk from around the rear window? How is the interior and engine compartment, inquiring minds want to know? The work on the paint looks to be coming along very well, what are you using on it? Thanks for the pictures.

To fix my axle bearing retaining ring issue, we decided it was easiest and fastest to spin them in a lathe and cut the rings down to the size of the originals.

These axles & the new brakes are going in tomorrow!

Looks awesome! Low mileage, any shots of the interior & engine?

I don't have any pics of the engine bay yet. It's just a standard 350 4v, PS, PB, AC. All original and dirty.

The interior was damn near perfect. The original carpeting wasn't even worn...

The trunk showed signs of water ingress and the rear package tray is trashed along the window edge.

The inner lower window trim has surface rust but the rear window defroster unit and the factory speaker grilles are ok.

I'll post some pics when I get back to Oklahoma this weekend.

As far as refinishing products, I typically use the following:

3" buffing pads in a cordless drill. Good for detail work around emblems and mirrors

DeWalt variable speed buffer with soft-start (to keep from slinging compound and other things)

An assortment of 8" foam and wool pads as needed

A good quality compound containing good initial cutting solids that break down into finer polishing compounds as you keep going

5" 800 grit wet sanding discs for serious cutting

And most importantly, a good, durable water spray bottle for every step of the way

My 72's rear window leaked and I was lucky that only the seal had come loose. No holes or rust of any kind. The shop that redid the car were very surprised when we removed the back glass and it was only sealed along the top and sides.

As I get older, I'm becoming better at taking things apart and never getting them back together again. It feels good to have completed just one thing.

Of course, through all this business of spacing out the wheels on axle hub spacers, I didn't think that the rotors would also move outwards requiring me to move the calipers to match. Simple matter of replacing a spacer block between the backing plate and the caliper plate with some 4mm spacer rings I made up.

Finished my Mark VIII electric fan upgrade.

I trimmed the fans surround to fit snug deep in the back of the OEM shroud.

Engine bay looks OEM except has no power robbing clutch fan.

I also used the BMW dual temperature fan switch and the Volvo fan relays.

Very happy with this mod.

New Kenwood head unit with Bluetooth goes in tomorrow, hidden of course

Wheel, I bet they just love to here those side pipes when you start her up to go somewhere! Looking good from here! Must be glad it's "back on the road again" ( song from REO speed wagon). That was a name of a car too!! The wife just enlightened me!! That's what I like about her. I can't wait to get mine out soon. Going to be putting on some exhaust cut-outs on it this year. OH Yeah!!
