DragCat
My buddy told me about these, he saw his neighbor (also a classic car guy) using one and was amazed at the water pickup. Ive been using micro fiber for years, just thought I'd throw it out there. https://www.autofiber.com/collections/dreadnought-drying-towels/products/dreadnought-xl-microfiber-car-drying-towel-20-in-x-40-in-1100gsm-1-pack

McCall72
I use the Chemical Guys yellow microfiber towels. The key to keeping them nice is do not use any fabric softener of any sort when washing them.
jft69z
I use 100% cotton towels, liquid detergent, no fabric softener or bleach. Rinse cycle twice too, to remove the detergent. Most of my vehicles are black, so any issue would show up if these didn't work. I also use a product called Zaino, been the best product I've ever used on the black cars. Goes on effortlessly, comes off with no streaks or haze, holds up for quite a long time. Their towel recommendations are listed below: https://www.zainostore.com/towel_guidelines.html https://www.zainostore.com/guide_washdry.html This is more info from them on towels: Zaino recommends using only Large Bath size 100% Made in USA White Cotton towels with all of our products. Cotton T-shirts are too small for polish removal and not as absorbent or fluffy as towels and most contain polyester. We have found that certain towels; especially those manufactured abroad, although they say 100% cotton. They are not; they include a blend of polyester and nylon that will definitely scratch and leave swirl marks in your paint finish. The rule of thumb is to use high quality Brand Name large bath towels (Cannon or Fieldcrest) that say 100% cotton and made in the USA. Towels sold in bags in Auto Stores are not 100% cotton. Look carefully on the bag it will probably say made in Pakistan or Bangladesh or other foreign country. Do not use these towels. They will cause swirl marks and scratches on the paint surface. Always, remove the stitching around the towel prior to use. Bargain store polish applicators also contain polyester and nylon fibers and are not to be used. Also, when washing your towels, please do not use any type of fabric softeners. Always use White towels. Do not use Colored Towels they contain dyes.

As always 🤣 I went away from cotton for the exact reasons you described. Ive seen Joe wipe down his Monte and can't argue with the results. Also X2 on the comments not using bleach, fabric softener on cotton or micro fiber. I'm not car show minded, washed my Monte once when I got it, put on a coat of wax and have used a California duster wand since.

I'll have to read more on this since my other vehicles are black. Ive used Klasse products in the past with good results and for that occasional car show Surf City the day before. Always learning around here 👍

dejh22
I use a silicone Squeegee to remove excess or standing water. Then a gentle towel dry. Never had any issues, no water spots and speeds up drying tome.

cny first gen 71
I have a rain blade that I use to get most of the water off then a towel (not sure of the brand) I use to get the rest of the water off. It's some kind of thick micro fiber works well.

I have their borderless towels too, but I tend to just use the expensive cotton towels from Bed, Bath & Beyond. I cut the large bath towels in half for drying the car, and use the dish sized towels for removing the polish and the quick detailer spray. I use the small wash cloths for washing the car (two bucket method), one for soap, one for clean water rinse. I don't like using a hose to wash the cars, especially with the vinyl roof.

Finally had some time to begin un-wintering. Weather doesn't look promising for anything else this weekend 😡
Leghome
I bought a waffle weave towel form Autozone/Oreilys/Advance and it works great after the water blade has been used
