Got the hood mostly blocked out now a little more primer and should be ready for paint. Sent the hinges out to be rebuilt today too, probably 3 to 4 weeks turn around. Progress is good.3 points

I have a 200r4 in my 72 from a 1985 Monte Carlo SS married up to a 12 bolt posi with 3:31 gears. Cruises st 1900 - 2000 rpms at 70 mph. Wonderful transmission.2 points

"You will be getting a PM from me soon. 200R4? Coming out , and going to Turbo 400. Glad to see your product is doing well. Great to have you in the Club!" Thank you sir. I have the overdrive detent plates available, also. These detents sold very well in 2022 and I can still say that I haven't ever had an unhappy customer ask for a refund. I'm blown away by the great customers I have and how knowledgeable 99% of them are when installing my parts.1 point

Yeah, sorry about that.... The 700 was more of a "universal" Chev transmission, which included their use in trucks. Another bonus to the 200r4's is the higher overdrive gear. They don't dig as deep off the line, but are nicer on the top end.1 point

I'm sorry, you have that backwards. The 200r4 has the "BOP" bolt pattern. The 700r4 ONLY came in a Chevy bolt pattern. The 200r4 has a gear split similar to the th350 while the 700r4 has a 3.06 first gear to a way higher 2nd gear. The gear split in the 700r4, when looked at is not more favorable than the 200r4 unless you are using a 3.00 or higher rear ratio where the 700s lower first gear ratio will help move the car from a stop a little easier.1 point

After my swap, I still had the 2.73 gears in Montelishi..... Crusing the highway at 1500 rpm's was nice, but stoplight to stoplight sucked. Went with the 3.31 12 bolt and it's been perfect. She'll even chirp the tires in second gear.1 point

I have a 200r4 in my '72 married to a 10 bolt 3.73 locker. I love it as well but in hindsight I would have gone with 3.31's or 3.55's1 point

Negative. Donât quote me until I can confirm via available resources, but if I remember reading correctly, each year/assembly plant was/were designated numbers which to assign as VIN numbers. For example, for 1970, Kansas City Leeds got 138570K (000001 - 100000), Van Nuys got 138570L (100001 - 199999), etc. Again, Iâm completely guessing on numbers per assembly location, but Iâm sure Iâve read where VINâs were assigned to each plant. Iâll check later today. Pretty sure I can picture this info in âChevy By The Numbersâ if anyone cares to beat me too the punch.1 point

Rob, It is definitely the entire string of characters. Hence the increase from 13 to 17 total characters over the years⊠there have been just too many vehicles produced over several decades. And with the reliability of modern day vehicles being what they are, I wouldnât be surprised if VINs increase to 19 digits at some point in the near future. Simply put, the last 6 digits of your Monteâs VIN likely exists on several other vehicles from several different manufacturers from several different years. Itâs the preceding characters which delineate make, model and manufacturer.1 point

I would assume that the smart people at the head offices have that figured out. I know when I worked at a dealer when looking a car up on national data base we put in the last 6 and most of the time it would find it. I would say the last 6 identified the car and the rest of all factory info. Speculation on my part.1 point

Big to do for the Buick Gran National (GSX's) '85-'87 .My case is from one.All new internals, more line pressure, little upgrades, and hard shift only when on the throttle. Got around 18 mpg with the 420 hp sbc, (3:42) geared 10 bolt.1 point

I've also done the 200r4 swap.... Liked it better than the 700r4 version. The 200r4 is pretty much a bolt in, whereas the 700r4 will require several modifications to the drive train. I found it at a local Pick n Pull, then took it to a guy who specialized in rebuilding hi pro transmissions. Been working fine for the last couple years now.1 point

From what we can see it looks great!!! To me it looked great at the meet but sometimes we as owners are our own biggest critics. rob1 point

Inspected further after it dried some more a couple spots of concern so I'll block it out and probably another coat of primer but it don't look to bad.1 point

The radiator has been leaking around the filler neck so I took it to a radiator repair shop for a cleaning and repair. Finished putting it back in the car today. It was raining here all day, but it stopped and the sun came out just as I was finishing up. I could not resist taking her for a short drive.1 point

The weather here today was perfect: 75°, sunny and no humidity. Took both cars out for a drive. Didnât stop anywhere remotely scenic with the â70, but stopped near a running and biking trail in a forest preserve on the route I drove the â71. It wasnât until I got home and looked at the pictures that I noticed thereâs already leaves on the groundđ„ș. A grim reminder that itâll soon be time to put the girls upâŠ1 point
