  1. With the number of members we have registered already someone asked me if I had any idea what the attendance for the Saturday evening Award Dinner would be. I counted up all of our members and guests and if we were to hold that Awards Dinner today and every member and their guest attended there would be 135 people at that dinner. We will easily fit our group Award Dinner in the vendor food court area. rob

  2. Yes Rob. I did all of the work besides rebuild the transmission and add the 3:55 posi. I did the sheet metal repair and paint prep. I had a friend help spray the base and clear.

  3. I get why he did it. I tend to do that with my original build thread in the New Member section. Keeps everything in one place. Couple other forums I belong to, they'd complain about resurrecting an old thread. Not here, it's all good.

  4. I wanted 76 or 77 when I was in High School but I could not afford a car like that, so I bought my 71 for $1,425.00. The rest is history!!

  6. Totally makes sense now. I have seen the error of my ways. My apologies Bob. If I did things to my 71 I would go back to my restoration thread also.

  7. Figures, both of you parked next to me...ughhh

  8. I suspect Bob is doing that so from start to current his restoration is pretty much all in one long post over the years. From knowing Bob all these years getting this done has been a challenge but I am glad to see there is a light at the end of the tunnel for him. Having followed Bob's restoration over all of these years, if I am not mistaken I think Bob has done almost all of the work himself. When I was young, single and living at home I did the restoration on my Model A.... back then I didn't have any home, family or any other responsibilities, I know I would not have been able to do what Bob or many others here have done in the restoration of their cars. I have seen way too many people take on a project like this and give up on it, I know I could not have accomplished what Bob has done on this car. rob

  9. I beg to differ… Come on now!! if you’re gonna tell a fib, tell the whole fib. I was able to pull off a day of parking with the club. Looks like “someone“ forgot who they were parked next to on the show field. Now Day 2? Yeah…I got busted 😂. Here’s photographic proof as a reminder for those with short memories…

  13. I only count the changes to amuse myself, and deflect on the $$ ive dropped 🤣 I'm not really a car show person but obviously I keep showing up to the meets without a car because of THE PEOPLE. Last year at Carlisle I had to change my entry from Monte to Suburban 🤣 Didnt care still parked with the club . Someone even tried to park with us with a Blue Oval , they were quickly re-routed to the non-participating parking area 🤣

  15. If it's not a Monte Carlo at a Monte Carlo meet then it's a foreign car 🤣

  16. I simply took it as two wrong cars, and my Monte was the correct (right) one.

  19. Update ... I installed the Edelbrock 1406 with the Edelbrock gasket I bought off Amazon. No issues there. I still have some work ahead of me getting the throttle and kick down cables squared away but nothing too egregious. But I started it up last night and the engine was running and idling perfectly!!!! Fresh plugs, fresh fuel filter, fresh oil/filter (with zinc) and non-Holley carb were exactly what that engine was looking for Oh, and the needles were removed, inspected (fine) and reinstalled, then 1 1/2 turns out each. I haven't rechecked vacuum and timing yet, but will shortly. I did happen to watch some Edelbrock 1406 videos on YouTube while in my man cave. And I'm glad I did. There are some very particular things to look for on any carb relative to initial setup. So it's worth the time watching some videos. As a result of one video I noticed that they bypass slots on the primaries were exposed when the throttle plates were closed (see excerpt of the above photo, below). In the video the guy talked about this being a problem with too much fuel when idling - all the carb needs exposed are the idle passages. So I backed off the idle screw all the way and got it to where those bypass slots are just barely starting to peak out from under the throttle plates. And again, the engine ran really smooth and the idle was perfect.

  21. It’s very important to all of us. Nobody wants a vin issue. Especially when purchasing a car. Verifying documentation is not easy with the technology out there to create fraudulent paperwork. Due diligence is key and ask people that knows a lot of questions.

  22. To me, this is a pretty important topic. The more you know about it the better. It doesn’t really matter what your classic vehicle preference, the hobby aint cheap. As values increase, so does fraud. As they say, knowledge is power. Why not become more informed to help protect yourself from becoming a victim. I’m sure the hard core collectors hire someone to verify that 2 million dollar Hemi convertible or ZL1 or L88 Vette before purchasing. It’s really a shame to see someone lose their hard earned money to fraud, or find out that what they purchased is really worth less than half what they paid because it isn’t what it was promoted as being.

  23. I agree 100 % I'd never drive that far just to go to a show, it's all about the people, the fun we have and the bench racing. My car is not an award winner and I don't care it's all about the fun, the people and have made some great friends along the way.

  27. One of the best cars I ever owned, after driving a 68 falcon, 67 vw bug, and a 62 dodge dart, this car was like driving a dream car . Even tho I prefer the first generation now, I alway liked the 4 headlight system.. someone has an 77 and brought it to the 2022 Carlisle meet. Was in excellent condition.. 77 was my favorite second gen… Monte…

  32. Not sure about 71 and 72 but the 70 ca.e from the factory with a wire that was part of the negative battery cable clamp that attached to a hole in the passenger fender. One time I had an issue of flickering and dimming lights. I found that wire to be broken and after I repaired that wire my flicker and dimming disappeared. rob

  33. Yes I've used them for years in chevys, the older ones that is. For me they lasted longer than ac delco stuff.

  35. Thats how I look at it too. The "reward" comes from the trip mostly, but also the folks in the club. I love driving the Monte and bench racing. It's always an adventure and not to be missed. The event itself is, to me, the same old same old..... same vendors and same sitting around near cars. (yawn)

  37. It has been a long road. As the saying goes when you have the time you don't have the money and when you have the money you don't have the time. Many things in life have happened in life during the restoration, some good and some bad. The good news is I sure hope to have it on the road by the time the salt has been washed away and I am able to put some miles on it and have the confidence to drive it to the 2024 Eastern meet.

  38. Hey Steve, all opinions are welcome. I had a friend years ago that lost his newly purchased car because it had been stolen in another province and shuffled through the system. It took about a month after he bought it (privately) for the paperwork to catch up, and when it did, all he could do was say goodbye to both the car and the money he spent. That's why I'm curious as to my situation...

  39. I worked at an Olds dealer after GM school in the early 70s when they changed the body style of the cutlass in 73 I did like the new style but I've always liked the cutlass line.

  40. I had a 76 Cutlass S. Those GM colonnade cars drove very nice. Mine had the upgraded suspension.

  41. It makes no difference if you are a dues paying member or not, your comments are taken the same. As far as deleting the entire thread, I am not sure why. Nobody is saying to do anything that is not legal. As a matter of fact the post about the guy will make you a VIN tag indicated that person will not even touch it without seeing a clear title for the car. Unless I am missing something I did not see anything that was of concern. rob
    1 point
  42. The VIN tag does not indicate Color, Vinyl Top, Interior or drive train so it can't be compared to determine matching body and vin tags.. The real key is the VIN indicating Flint and the body tag showing Baltimore. rob

  44. Here's what I put on my 72. The trim came from Ames Pontiac Performance. It was thicker and matched what was originally there. Initially, I picked up a set from Legendary Interiors. It was too thin, so I replaced it with this. If someone wants it cheap though, I'll bring it to Carlisle. The molded 'tips' on the seat where the silver trim seems to abut is just about the same size. I didn't have the end caps, nor did it come with the Legendary or Ames trim. I imagine I could use the Chrome Paint pen to coat the 'tips', but that's not even on the list of things to do right now.

  45. My 70 Monte has a bench seat. it has the metal Deluxe Seat Belts code AK1. The rear seat has 3 metal adjustable buckles in the back seat. The front has 3 of the Large metal adjustable buckles and 2 of the small buckles. The two Small buckles are for the driver and passenger retractable lap belts and the three front Large metal adjustable buckles, one for the center front seat passenger the other two are for the driver and passenger shoulder belts. rob

  46. Hey Guys on my 72 Custom on the build sheet it has code "AV3 3 point seat belt" and it has the bigger plastic buckle, and the same buckle up top for the shoulder harness, back has only lap belts, No shoulder harness. On my Classi Copper 71SS "THERE IS NO CODE" on the Build Sheet. But in box 67 Seat Belts it says "S-BLK". I am guessing Standard-Black (Dont remember what was in there i will have to check) On my Blue 71SS The same as the last NO CODE and Build Sheet in box 67 "S-BLK (This car is not apart but i am pretty sure it has black and Deluxe, with shoulder harness in the front only. I have a 72 350 parts car with half a Build Sheet, i dont see any code for seat belts. And in box 66 it states Shoulder Harness #8416 and box 67 (cant make it out) with # 1282 Hope this helps guys!!!
