Looks like the engine is in, so there is half the battle. Just need a drivers seat and dash, some working lights, bumpers and a windscreen and you could drive it the short distance to the Eastern Meet. To me that's about a week and a half of work, so there is no excuse not to drive it on over!6 points

So John, what you are saying is with 58 DAY'S AND A WAKE-UP remaining until our members start arriving in Carlisle, your car is right on pace to be at the Eastern Meet, right? rob6 points

Since were striving for perfection, I'm not going to upset the bodyshop flow. But I might be able arrange a road trip to the bodyshop if anyone wants to see it in person. Ha ha5 points

Ole Red is up and running. I am so tired of working on him that I hope I never have wrench on him again. Still some tweaking to do but we are close to being road worthy again. I’ve tried to up load the video I made but it keeps giving me a 200 error code so I am guessing it is to big of a file3 points

Thanks! I talked to the guy that owned the white 71 SS. Yes Rob, I gave him a FGMCC card and told him to check out the forum. I didn’t see the 4 speed car. Didn’t meet the owner of the other 70 either.2 points

Thanks for joining in on the fun, it was nice talking to you earlier...you should put your car on the Auto Train and bring it too rather than flying. rob2 points

This is the best deal for Bilstein that I've found: https://www.jegs.com/i/BMR-Suspension/142/BSN-A-68-72/10002/-11 point

Great pics John. But I agree, I don’t think it will be making the trip. lol.1 point

Those are the same front ones I got for my Monte, from Amazon. They were $77 at the time (May 2023), and $91 now, in stock, free shipping, would be delivered on Monday. The Tire Rack number looks like it is for 1973 and later applications, at least in Summit's application list. The number above I used, has 1968-72 listed. Amazon also has the rears (24-009294) in stock $94, deliverable by Sunday. Don't know why Tire Rack says June.1 point

Sorry for such a late response. I was at a memorial for my sister-in-law. It looks like James, Scott and Joe got you taken care of. I chose the Bilsteins based on Joes recommendation. The 2” drop coils seem like the way to go to offset the lighter engine combo. You may want to check the spring rate with the factory rate. Because your engine combo is now lighter you may not get the 2” drop.1 point

I switched from KYB's to Bilstein's as well.... Haven't got it on the road yet, but after finding that the KYB's had drained out over the winter, I decided that a good shock is worth the extra $$$.1 point

I recommend the Bilstein shocks as well. I have had them for several years and they perform quite well, limiting body roll and helping with cornering immensely. That being said, the ride height is determined by the springs and if your car sits too high you may want to consider swapping those out after checking the height without shocks as recommended by Mark1 point

I initially had put KYB shocks on my Monte (72 Custom which includes the larger front sway bar that the F41 suspension offered). Car seemed to be a little soft with those shocks on it, especially on the highway. I decided to try the Bilstein's after that. As mentioned, they cost more, but do seem to ride better and provide more control. Only thing I did was remove the stickers, paint them, then re-apply the trimmed down stickers. I painted the blue boot with black vinyl dye as well. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19368-new-guy-here/page/37/#comment-2553891 point

It will be great to meet you and all the other fine people in the club.1 point

Remove the shocks and see how it sits. You’re probably looking at springs also. After some member input (thanks Joe) I’m ordering a set of Bilsteins. They are on the high side of the price scale though. About $390 for 4 on Amazon + tax. There are others for 1/2 the price.1 point

The flouro rubber works, just takes a bit to cut and get together. I did spot a nos one on ebay last wèek, asking $500.00. If you Google 3188818 it should come up.1 point

The ‘71 came out of hibernation Friday. The ‘70 was extracted from her cocoon today. Both gave me no issues starting and felt great on the 10 - 12 mile initial ride. The AC compressor on the ‘71 gave up the ghost (the pretty green dye in the refrigerant matches the Lime Green Poly perfectly 😂), but whatya gonna do? New compressor already ordered and hopefully delivered and installed in time for Carlisle. PS - the day I figure out how to get pictures loaded in sequence is the day Dennis’ feet don’t appear in his pictures1 point

Spent the weekend getting her ready for spring.... IF that every comes. lol Changed oil & filter, lubed the front end, re jetted the carb, chased that "mystery wire" down, pulled the rear seat.... and "no", there's no paperwork tucked in there. Put the re conditioned dash and battery back in, added a squirt of gas down the carb...... And "BINGO"!!! She fired right up. Now, just need to get the new tires on and wait out the snow the weather woman says is coming tonight.1 point
