They only wanted to do one mold for the main body so they had to pick one or the other headlight styles. They likely picked the square headlights since it was on 2 of the three years. Dave Mau actually consulted with Ertl when they were making prototypes. They took some of his suggestions but not all. This Backyard Conversions simply takes one of the Ertl cars and customizes it as a convertible. Probably uses Ertl Chevelle parts... just like real life.
